CM
Welcome to Blue and Gold 2010.
First let me thank Dixson Slater for that wonderfull
invocation.

CM
The highest rank in Cub Scouting is the Arrow of Light
award. There are many steps required to reach this
goal. Let’s hear from the scouts how it is achieved.
First, a Bobcat.

BOBCAT
I am a Bobcat, a new member of the pack, no matter what
grade I am in. I have just learned the Cub Scout
Promise and the Law of the Pack.

CM
Next we have Tigers and then Wolfs.
WOLF
I am a Wolf Scout. I have completed lots of
achievements in the Wolf scout handbook. I had fun in
my den and pack and with my whole family as I earned my
Wolf badge during 2nd grade.
CM
Next, a Bear.

BEAR
I am a Bear Scout. I’ve done dozens of achievements and
electives to earn my Bear badge in third grade. My
activities were in the areas of God, Country, Family,
and Self.

CM
After Bear, the highest rank in Cub Scouting is the
Webelos scout.

WEBELOS
As a Webelos scout, I have started to set my own path
in scouting. I have earned activity pins and I
understand more about the ideals of Boy Scouts. I know
that Webelos is the last step before becoming a Boy
Scout.
CM
Tonight we will present a few awards including; some of
the rank badges we just heard about and the highest
award in Cub Scouting, the Arrow of Light. We will
start new traditions, watch boys graduate Cub scouts,
and some even cross over into Boy Scouts. It will be a
full night. We appreciate you coming out to celebrate
the hard work and dedication that these boys have
demonstrated and we hope you will join us after the
ceremony for light appetizers as we wish the WEBELOS II
a fond farewell.
CM
Before we get started with awards and advancements, we
have a special guest with us tonight. Bill East is
with the Order of the Arrow, the district training
committee, and is the recipient of scouting’s Silver
Beaver Award. Tonight he is representing Friends of
Scouting and will be talking to us about that. Bill...

As always, over the last year we have had a lot of fun
and done many things. Lets look back at a video slide

times.

Rank
CM
I mentioned earlier that we would start a new tradition
tonight. We have been looking for a way to welcome new
boys to the pack. To this end, as a boy earns his
Bobcat badge we want to present him with a small
token...a silverware set for camping.
This simple set is a lot like the lessons we learn in
Cub scouts. There is nothing particularly special
about them, they are plan and simple tools. It is how
you use them and what we use them for in life that can
make a difference. Any boy who has earned his Bobcat as
of tonight will receive this gift. Unfortunately, for
the WEBELOS II’s, this will be a parting gift as well.
ACM2
There are really three people responsible for each rank
badge. The pack staff, the parents and the boy him
self. The staff provides a program for the boys..a
framework to build on but it is really the last two,
the boy and his parents, who put in the work to get
things one.

ACM1
It is for that reason that when a boy earns a rank
badge, we present the badge to his adult partner and a
pin to the boy. The boy gives this pin to his parents
as a thank you for the help they have given
him. Generally speaking, Mom wears this pin as a way
to brag about her son. After he has completed a good
turn, his parents present him with his badge.
The following boys have earned their Bobcat badge
As we call your name, please come forward with your
adult partner.
Once they are on stage, CM hands pin and the
utensil set to the boy, the rank to mom and then
shakes boys hand

CM
I would like to thank and congratulate you on taking up
the challenge of Cub scouts and of being a good example
for your school and community.
Could I please have a big round of applause for Pack
421’s newest scouts, the Bobcats?

CM
(holding up arrow)
This career arrow represents Cub scouting’s highest
award, the Arrow of Light. I hope you will pursue your
Arrow of Light in the coming year.
The shaft of the arrow represents your lives - straight
and true to the Cub Scout Promise, its tip points the
way to success in all that you do. The arrow always
points to the right pointing the way to success in all
that you do. The arrow is fletched with three feathers,
which help to guide it as it flies through the
air. These feathers symbolize three guiding factors in
your lives. One, your spirit to follow your dreams and
realize your goals. The second your parents, who are
the strongest guiding force in your lives. The final
feather represents the leaders of this Pack who do
their best to help you along your path.
CM
The adult leaders of the pack challenge you to pursue
the Arrow of Light badge with the same zeal and
determination that you have displayed in pursuit of the
WEBELOS Badge, and all other ranks and honors you have
earned. As always, the fletching will be here to help
guide you.

this highest honor in cub scouts?

the cub scout promise and the law of the pack...
someday this arrow will be yours.

AoL
CM
This group of young men have earned their Arrow of
light award. A boy who earns this award has, among
other things, been an active member of his den for 6
months, has earned an additional 5 activity pins over
the WEBELOS badge, knows the requirements to become a
boyscout and has visited a Boy Scout troop meeting or
outdoor activity. All of this and much more.

CM
The Arrow of Light is the highest award that can be
earned in Cub Scouts. It is the only BSA award that
boys can wear on their boy scout uniform. In fact, it
is even warn, as I wear it, on the uniform of an adult
scouter as a knot.

obligation to himself and his fellow man. Cub Scouting
is a challenge to all who become involved. A challenge

accept the ideas of others who may not agree with you
and learning to compromise and work out differences.

CM
The career arrows and plaques the graduating WEBELOS
are about to receive have been built and decorated by
hand by myself and Shane.
CM
The arrows have been wrapped to display your cub
scouting career. Every rank, arrow point and activity
pin you have earned is represented by a differently
colored wire wrap. This was not as easy task since many
of the boys earned not only the required WEBELOS
activity pins but all 20 that are available.

adding posts for the arrow to rest on. We would like to
thank Dan Haas with VoorWood CO. in Anderson for

It is our hope that you will display this arrow with
pride. It demonstrates the path you have taken so far
and points the way toward Eagle, where you are surely
headed.

These boys are truly worthy. Each of them who went to
resident, camp know what I mean. And for the rest of
you, when you are worthy...you will know. We wish you
well and congratulations. I know that you will all do
great things with your lives both within and outside of
scouts.

CM
I want to issue you one more challenge before you leave
our pack. This is a tradition I would like to borrow
from Pack 421’s last Cubmaster. Meet me in front of the
Boulder Creek Elementary school gym, in 10 years time.
Thursday, March 6th, 2020 at noon. We will go
somewhere for lunch and you can tell me what you have
been up to. I imagine that, by then, many of you will
be Eagle Scouts and I know that all of you will have
accomplished much.

you.

CM
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of
the people who make this program possible. I get the
opportunity to stand up front at each meeting and look
like a one-man-band. Nothing could be farther from the
truth.
As I call your names and list a little bit about what
you do, please stand and remain standing so that when I
am done we can have a round of applause.
First of all our committee:

Lori Johns - Advancement Chair Person - she makes sure

that everything is ordered, cross checked, labeled and
set up so that I can present them to you in the correct
order.
Nichole Raymond - Treasurer and Camping chair - she
schedules all the camps, payments, forms, etc... She
also keeps track of what we spend and the money each
boy earns.
Mike Farrier - Charter Org. Rep. - He is the link
between our pack and the charter organization who makes
it possible for us to exist.
Melody Alspach - Recruiting chair and acting Secretary,
acting community events chair, etc.... She schedules
all recruiting and does her best to keep our pack alive
by bringing in new blood. She also takes all the notes
at the meetings, makes sure everyone gets forms in on
time and that our database is up to date. She is also
the point person for any community events the pack is a
part of...She does it all. - I am a little biased on
this one because she is also the one who points me in
the correct direction and I am fairly certain, is the
only reason I can dress myself or find my way to
meetings ;-) Interesting trivia - there is a good
chance she has your birthday memorized.

Next are the assistant cub masters. ACM1 and ACM2
(along with a very few others) are here at the
beginning and end of each meeting to help set up and
clean up. They also help with knots, uniform
inspections, etc... they help the den leaders and I on
those rare occasions when the boys don’t want to stand
in a straight line or walk around to the door to get on
stage... In short, anything I have needed help with,
these two have jumped up and volunteered for. I cant
thank them enough for their help inside and outside of
the meetings.
applause

CM
Last, but definitely not least, are you...the parents,
grandparents, aunts, uncles, spouses, sisters, etc...
You are the ones who help your boys to succeed, get
them to meetings make sure they are in full Class A’s
when appropriate and t-shirts when not. You put up with
a husband who spends $200 (that you really don’t have)
to attend additional scout trainings. Or a wife who
spends your Anniversary at Cub Scout day camp every
single year (thanks for the leather craft coaster
honey...I love it). You provide trailers, snacks, pipe
benders, parts, CAD drawings, lights, labor and
workspace for the Christmas parade. You literally make
the pack go.

ACM2
We would like to thank you all for being here with us
tonight to celebrate these young men’s
accomplishments. We should all be very proud of them
and, more importantly, they should be proud of them
selves. They are examples to other young men of the
right way to act and to live.
ACM1
Tonight is also about fellowship. The square knots you
will see laying around on tables and chairs are symbols
of this. Aside from being the first knot a boy scout
must learn, it is commonly used to join two separate
pieces of rope into one, much as cub scouts has joined
our family’s into one scouting family. I hope you will
take one of these home tonight as a reminder of this
family.

CM
Now we ask that you join us for some light appetizers
as we chat and reminisce while wishing our WEBELOS II’s
family’s a fond farewell.
Thank you, and good night.
