Slip Rams Modification for Quad BOP

This product service bulletin from Texas Oil Tools discusses a modification needed for 1.00" slip guides used in 2.50" quad blowout preventers. The guides were found to interfere with each other during hydraulic operation, whether coil tubing was present or not. The recommended solution is to modify the 1.00" guides by grinding .03" from the inside shoulder and extending the length to 2.50" to prevent interference and allow proper functioning. Customers are advised to order replacement guides from Texas Oil Tools that have the guide and slip integrated to prevent future issues.

Discussion
Slip Rams: Recently we had a report of interference on the 1.00" Slip Guides (Part Number 8010-
2735). This interference may occur during hydraulic operation with or without coil tubing in the
BOP.

After further investigation, it was found that the leading finger of these guides can contact the
opposing guide when the rams are closed against each other with or without coil tubing between
them. The 1.50" Guides 8010-2726 and 1.25" Guides 8010-2723 are not affected by this bulletin.

Solution
Remove Guides from Slip Rams, noting the edge of guide which guides the tubing to the Slips.
As shown on the attached drawing, modify the length of the guide so that it measures 2.50". Also,
grind .03 from the inside guide shoulder as shown, to prevent the tubing from hitting the guide.
This modification will prevent any interference of the guides, regardless of whether there is tubing
between the Rams or not.

NOTE TO CUSTOMER
This is a temporary field modification for all 1.00" Guides presently in service. Replacement
Guides should be ordered from Texas Oil Tools as permanent replacements. The replacement
Guides should be ordered as part number 8010-2835 for the 1.00" tubing size.

Note: All units shipped after Jan. 1995 have the guide and slip as an integral part. You should be
using the new slip and guide assembly.
