II. Synthesize the following trisubstituted benzene derivatives from benzene. Take note of ortho-
/meta-/para- directing groups when designing your synthesis reaction. (10 points)

A, To get A, benzene must first undergo Friedel-Crafts Alkylation then Halogenation and finally
Sulfonation.

B. In order to produce B, benzene must initially undergo Friedel-Crafts alkylation and add an
ethyl substituent. After which, Halogenation and Nitration must be done to add the other
necessary groups. Oxidation and Reduction are also necessary to convert some of the groups into
their respective forms as seen in B.
