The prediction of collapse is based on the idea that failure occurs when the stresses at the inside surface diameter of a machined
Cylinder reach or exceed the yield strength of the material. This is true as long as the elastic deflections are proportional to the
loads. But in some cases, especially where (D/t)>20, the elastic deflections may not be proportional to the load. In this situation
collapse will occur due to what is known as Radial Buckling. TIW analyzes the products for these situations and will show the
appropriate collapse pressure as either Lame or Radial Buckling, whichever is lowest. All calculations apply to a machined
tubular only and are based on differential pressure, no applied axial load, and a room temperature of 72 deg. F. No safety factors
are applied. Underlined values represent pressure rating.
