School Meeting

Experience
I had the opportunity to attend the social studies
department meeting on October 31st. During this
meeting, the teachers were discussing the later start time
and the idea of offering hybrid classes (either online or
partially online classes). All of the social studies teachers
attended the meeting, as well as the principal and
administration.
Processes
The meeting took place as a discussion, where
teachers were voicing opinions and listening to one
another. A lot of teachers shared their concerns about
the online classes because to many of them, this
would have a large effect on Rocky's culture. When
topics like this came up, the principal or the teacher
acting as the facilitator would address the topic and
then the whole team would collaborate together on
what they should do. I really liked all of the teamwork
that went into this meeting and the fact that
everyones opinion was valued.
Roles of Participants
The purpose of the meeting was to get feedback and
insight on possible changes that Rocky will possibly
experience in the next year or so. One of the teachers
introduced the topic and acted as the facilitator during the
meeting. The other teachers took turns voicing their
opinions and asking questions. Some teachers even took
notes. It was made clear that everyones thoughts and
opionions were wanted and respected.
Other Takeaways
The department meeting gave me some really good
insight on some of the other aspects of teaching. These
meetings give teacher the opportunity to communicate
with one another and work through difficult situations. I
think that these types of meetings will be very beneficial
to me when I become a teacher, and this makes me
excited to collaborate with my fellow colleagues.
