Child/Tama: Usaid. Teacher/ Kaiako: Naema. Date: 20th. November/Whiringa-ā-rangi. 2018.

Asalam-o-Alaikum, Kia Ora Usaid, your last story was about how happy you were in your preschool
and developing the confidence in yourself to feel more comfortable to explore the preschool envi-
ronments. During these last few weeks I have spent time with you and encouraged you to sit at mat
time. I noticed you really loved sitting and listening to the ‘daily saying’, reciting surah’s and learn-
ing about the day and weather. I also encouraged you to join in with the children in caring for the
preschool environment during the tidy-up and watering plants activities.
6.11.18. Revisit: Today when you arrived you were a little tired and came for a cuddle, I gave you a
hug and asked if you were okay. You were quiet but snuggled up in my lap for some time, after that
you got better and came to your favourite activity; ‘play-dough’. I noticed you picked the dinosaur
from the basket and inspected it carefully, you then put it back in the basket responsibly. You soon
picked out the spoon and spent a large amount of time scooping the play-dough with spoon and
putting it in the container. When it was announced for tidy-up you covered the container with a lid
and joined the children at mat time. I gave you very big praise for you being so responsible.
Usaid, I have noticed you have been watching the children from a distance and then join
them when you feel comfortable. Today when you saw Bushra and Saloomi racing on the
ram you went up there to race with them. When I said it is not safe for the three of you com-
ing down together at the same time, you stopped and waited for Saloomi to come down and
then you and Bushra raced on the bikes, when I asked the children to have a race in the area
where it is much safe,r you joined in and had great fun.
What learning is happening?
Observation shows you are very happy in your preschool and developing the confidence in
yourself to feel safe and comfortable to explore the preschool environments. As you have

and helping with cleaning and tidying-up. You have also been gaining the confidence to par-
ticipate in all learning activities finding resources and joining the other children in play. You
have also displayed that you can follow instructions and always ready to better youself
How can we extend this learning?
Usaid, we will continue to keep a responsive and reciprocal relationship with you. We will
continue supporting you to feel more safe and comfortable with the preschool routines and
to continue to explore the preschool environments. To keep your disposition in mind, our
term focus for program planning this term is “Learning to care for myself, my friends and
preschool. This will be a perfect learning pathway for you.
Teacher’s Voice:
Last week you were a little upset and looked tired, I gave you lots of cuddles and found out
you had a baby sister. Teacher Catharine and I were sitting outside when I told her about the
reason why you were tired as you may have not had enough sleep, you have now became a
big brother. I noticed you had a big smile and you nodded your head when teacher Catharine
acknowledged how big of, a responsibility you have and no wonder you get tired in the
morning.
