Missler Software 1
TopSolid 2010 TopSolid'Design 2010: What's new

This document describes the improvements made to the Design application of the TopSolid’Design
software: 2010 version.

Operating system
Windows 7
TopSolid 2010 supports the 32- and 64-bit versions of the new Windows 7 operating system with the
Aero mode.

Automatic update
The software can now be updated automatically, either directly via the Internet if the workstation is
connected, or indirectly through a server. It can search for updates either when the software is launched,
at regular intervals, or manually using the function Help | Update.

Excel 2007
The Excel 2007 format (.xlsx documents) is now supported in all functions that deal with this type of file
(catalog, spreadsheet export, etc)

Symbol tree
To optimize response time, the echo of all the elements in the graphic zone when switching to the Main
assembly tab has been deactivated.

Ergonomics
During a rotation or a dynamic displacement it is now possible to retain the displayed points. This option
can be set in Visualization options in the function Tools | Options.

Neutral point
Depending on the elements selected, new functions have been added :

Type of selection Proposed operation / function

Coordinate system Duplication
Text showing a Modify parameter / Move parents
parameter
Face Change transparency
Component Add constraint
Segment of a view Make invisible

In addition, when drilling has been carried out in neutral mode, the propagation operation is
systematically proposed.

2 Missler Software
TopSolid'Design 2010: What's new TopSolid 2010

Leaving neutral mode is now possible with the function which means you do not have to use the
keyboard.

When a direction is requested, the TANGENT option now lets you specify the direction from an extremity
or any point of a segment or edge and from the tangent at this point.

It is now possible to hook the compass on the key points of an entity, such as the vertex of a shape for
instance.

The vertices of cones are now key points on which hooking is possible.

When creating a graphic cross-section, the new option COORDINATE SYSTEM 3 POINTS allows the
section plane to be defined by 3 points.

The keys Shift + up arrow (or down, right, left arrow, page up and page down) enable you to change the
orientation of views by 90° regardless of the angle of rotation predefined in Tools | Options –
Miscellaneous – Graphic.

Collaborative work
For heavily worked unitary parts or assemblies entirely designed in position, using TopSolid different
team members can now work on the same project at the same time.

This means that work on the project, as well as on different parts of the project, can be shared between
users.
Each user works on their own file, on the sections that have been assigned to them and project
consistency is managed and checked through a master document. This organization is not fixed,
however, and the rules may be modified at any time.
An on-demand synchronization system between the different users allows for working in an environment
that can be temporarily desynchronized. Users then work remotely on an image of the project (when
traveling, outside the design office, etc.) and synchronize their work with the rest of the project as soon
as they return to the design team.
A general assembly is available at all times to completely assemble the project in order to check and
view the results of each user's designs and to provide a reference for drafting and machining.

N.B.: This function is not compatible with TopSolid’PDM.

File
Saving recent file paths
To provide quick access to recent documents, the last ten folders used are now available in a drop down
list, in the document opening and saving windows :

In addition, the preview of a document is now displayed when it is saved.

Missler Software 3
TopSolid 2010 TopSolid'Design 2010: What's new

Links
The functions File | Export project or File | Links now includes a new option for selecting the current
document.

Properties
In the General information – Other information section of the File | Properties function, it is now
possible to find out the mass of the main assembly, an alternative assembly or a sub-assembly in place.

Edit
Repetition on a curve with a given direction
The repetition of a curve now includes a new option called FIXED DIRECTION which allows an axis to be
used as a direction of propagation.

Example application on the design of a curved gate: repetition support in red, and direction used to calculate the
number of instances in black.

Parameter
When modifying a parameter of length, angle, or one without a unit, two new buttons enable you to
increase or decrease the parameter rapidly, in defined steps.

4 Missler Software
TopSolid'Design 2010: What's new TopSolid 2010

On creation or modification of a parameter, new advanced options make it possible to set limits to the
parameter (minimum and maximum values) and also to define the error message displayed when the
instruction is not observed.

The tolerances of a parameter can now depend on the value of the parameter.
During the creation or modification of a parameter, the option TABULATED TOLERANCE provides
access to a dialog window where you can define the the tolerance values for each parameter value .

Sketch
Optimization
The solver has been optimized so that sketches for large dimensions can be generated.

Insertion
Inserting a BSpline curve into a sketch is supported; the curve thus inserted is considered as fixed and it
is possible to constrain the other segments of the sketch in relation to the curve, or to perform a contour
on original curves.

Circle
When creating a circle centered on an element, a coincidence constraint between the center of the circle
and the element is henceforth created.

Chamfer
The dimensions are now automatically created when creating a chamfer.

Outline
This new function makes it possible to retrieve the outlines of a shape directly in a sketch.

Symmetry constraint
A constraint between 2 circles may now be symmetrical in relation to an axis.

Equality constraint
A new constraint allows for the definition of an equality of length between 2 segments without creating
parameters or dimensions.

Dimension
The dimension of the coordinates of a point with a selected type of display is now supported.

Missler Software 5
TopSolid 2010 TopSolid'Design 2010: What's new

Regular polygon
This new function allows you to create a regular polygon in a sketch by indicating the number of sides,
the internal or external diameter, the rotation angle and also the center point.

Level
When the level of a sketch is changed, the dimension and the constraints of the sketch also change
levels.

Miscellaneous
Functions for creating contours on the fly, like an extruded shape or a pocket, etc. now provide
suggestions as to the type of contour to create : CURVE or SKETCH.

Curves
Fillet
In global mode, the preview is displayed on all the vertices of the contour, allowing you to detect any
possibly problematic zones.

When creating a fillet, the new option Delete segment=YES now makes it possible to remove a segment
from the contour :

Hatched zone contour

It is now possible to reconstruct the contour of a hatched zone (area that usually comes from an imported
file), using the new option ZONE from the functions Curves | Other curves | Around a point or Tools |
Hatched zone – AROUND A POINT.

On the fly modification of 3D dimensions

When creating a 3D dimension, it is henceforth possible to change its value when it is positioned, as is
the case for 2D dimensions.

6 Missler Software
TopSolid'Design 2010: What's new TopSolid 2010

Shapes
Constrained block
The CONSTRAINED BLOCK option in the function Shape | Block lets you quickly create a block
between two parallel faces by indicating the trimming plane and a positioning plane, possibly with
clearance in relation to these planes.

Selection of reference planes in accordance Selection of reference planes in accordance with the
with the first direction. second direction (these planes may be detected
automatically).

Selection of the positioning plane and creation of the

block by indicating clearance.
When the block is created, a modifier allows the
positioning to be refined (in the above example: high,
centered, low).

Enclosing shape
The new FACES option lets you enclose the faces of one or more parts. You may then insert and / or
extract faces from the enclosing shape obtained in this way.

Loft
A number of improvements have been made to the function for creating lofted surfaces :
 It is now possible to insert and extract interpolation curves.
 The tangent constraints may be defined on a set of faces.
 Options for synchronization PARAMETRIC, ARC LENGTH, PROPORTIONAL and CONTINUE have
been added.
 It is also possible to manage an intersection tolerance between guide sections and and curves.

Missler Software 7
TopSolid 2010 TopSolid'Design 2010: What's new

Fill hole
The new option FILL HOLE in the function Shape | Other Shapes | Face quickly provides a shape
corresponding to the opening on a surface. This option combines the operations: copy face in non-
restricted mode, copy opening edges, then trimming, that had to be carried out in the previous version.

Example surface hole fill

Blending faces
Curvature continuity with adjustment of the influence zone is henceforth available.

Blend surface between faces with tangent continuity Blend surface between faces with curvature
continuity

Operations on shapes
Chamfer
The option SHAPE is used to produce a chamfer of the same length on all the edges of a shape.
It is now also possible to change the values of the chamfer after selecting the edges for chamfering. The
new values are then applied to all the selected edges and will generate chamfers of a single length.

Modifying operations
You can now add or remove curves in the operations Pocket, Boss and Print.
Similarly, in the operations Color and Print you may now add and remove faces.

Reciprocal trimming
The new option SHAPE allows all the faces of a shape to be processed.

8 Missler Software
TopSolid'Design 2010: What's new TopSolid 2010

TopSolid’Cam link
In order to improve the link with TopSolid’Cam, it is now possible to define machining processes when
defining a drill model.
In addition, the pockets in slave parts are now machinable

Assembly / Components
Plane on Plane positioning
The positioning constraint PLANE ON PLANE includes a parameter for managing offsets between
planes.

Axis on Cylinder positioning

For constrained positioning, it is now possible to establish correspondence between an edge and a
cylindrical face.

Example Axis on Cylinder positioning.

Deleting operations
In the construction tree, when removing one operation performed on one of the shapes in a component,
TopSolid now proposes the option of removing the equivalent operations on the other shapes generated
by the component. Equivalent operations are those that have been performed using the same tool:
subtraction or trimming.

Missler Software 9
TopSolid 2010 TopSolid'Design 2010: What's new

Constraints system
To simplify understanding of constraints systems containing a significant number of components, a new
section Constraints lets you rapidly visualize all the positioning constraints for each component.

Supplier components
The objective is to be able to build a component library quickly from a collection of retrieved files (with
basic geometry) and to use it like the components produced with TopSolid in relation to both inclusion
(code selection, process selection) and modification (interchangeability).

After importing the files and defining the component's characteristics, simply select the new component
saving option in the function Edit / save template from the menu Assembly | Define component and
enter the text that will be used as the code for the supplier component:

Next, the function Edit catalog header from the menu Assembly | Define component will allow you to
create the catalog containing the different supplier codes:

Improved interchangeability
To allow components with different topologies to be interchanged, whilst guaranteeing positioning
stability, the new function Define publication from the menu Assembly | Define component lets you

10 Missler Software
TopSolid'Design 2010: What's new TopSolid 2010

select and name the faces, edges or coordinate systems to be prioritized for positioning. The
components then become easily interchangeable, provided they have identical publication names.

Example bearing bracket with publications (red), which may be interchanged with another component
with the same publication names, without loss of constraint.

Publications defined in this may may also be visualized in the different levels of the assembly.

Data inheritance
Building up a library requires the same tools and publications to be created on the library's various
components. This task has been made significantly easier by the function Import tools and
publications which allows you to import the tools, publications and key points of a previously defined
component.

Checking libraries
Checking the contents of components is about to become easier with the new function Compare
template files for checking that all the components in a folder have the same characteristics (same key
points, same publications, same tools, etc.).

Process with collision detection

A process may now be automatic, i.e. all parts colliding with the tool will be automatically modified when
the component is inserted or when the function Assembly | Use process is applied.

Repositioning handles
Modifying a part may entail the loss of certain positioning constraints within the assembly, in this case,
graphic handles allow the invalid components to be quickly repositioned.

A simple click on a handle (red) rectifies the invalid constraint.

Missler Software 11
TopSolid 2010 TopSolid'Design 2010: What's new

Resetting libraries
The new function Assembly | Define component | Reset standard makes it possible to update the
libraries, which avoids having to restart TopSolid after modifying a component or its catalog.

Analyze
The functionAnalyze | Inertia supports selection of several surfaces on the same plane.
In the function Analyze | Distance, the elements are now filtered in accordance with the selected option.
For example, when the option PLANE is selected, any geometry which does not allow for the definition of
a plane is ignored and does not produce a graphic echo.

Tools
Keyboard shortcuts
In Tools | Options – Shortcut keys, a new list is available on the right-hand side of the window, showing
the existing keyboard shortcuts.
The Export button allows you to obtain the list of shortcuts in Excel or text format, for printing out as a
quick reference guide, for example.

Constrained coordinate system on face

In non-dynamic mode, the new option Hooking makes it possible to constrain the coordinate system in
relation to the neighboring faces or to the current coordinate system. This option is also available on
creation of a drilling.

Nesting
In addition to the complex nesting method available in previous versions, the new method of rectangular
nesting enables nesting from the stock for each part. This method has the benefit of quicker calculation
time, but the offcut rate may be higher compared to complex nesting.

Attributes
Texture
To avoid any deterioration due to changes in format, when importing textures, the option Convert the
texture file to TTX format, when left unchecked, allows the original texture file to be used (bmp, jpeg,
gif, etc.).

When importing a texture, if the size of the file to be imported is greater than 20MB, a warning message
is now displayed. Such textures may in fact impact the performance and stability of the software, for the
32-bit versions in particular.

Material
The new option CREATE FROM TEXTURES can be used to create all the materials that correspond to a
texture folder. The materials thus created have the same names as the textures and they follow the same
tree structure as the textures;

12 Missler Software
TopSolid'Design 2010: What's new TopSolid 2010

Sheet metal
Recognition of cylindrical faces
Cylindrical faces with a radius below a given value may be recognized as bends when the sheet is
created, so that they are treated as such on the unbend (instead of unrolling them). This option can be
configured in the section Sheet metal : design - General in the Tools | Options function.

Visualization of lateral faces

The visualization of lateral faces may now be applied to all the sheet metal parts in the document.

Flange with clearance

The new Clearance tab available in the Flange function parameters window lets you automatically trim
the adjacent faces of the flange. Three trimming modes are available : manual (by indicating the different
clearance values), ¼ - ¼ or hidden face.

Example flange with clearance

Bending along a line

Henceforth, the selection of bend allowances is proposed at the end of the function.

Missler Software 13
TopSolid 2010 TopSolid'Design 2010: What's new

Bend Unbending / Rebending

Bends with an internal bend radius equal to zero are now supported by these two functions.

Joggling
This function now includes a new option which enables the tilt angle to be indicated.

Joggling with a 90° angle Joggling with a 45° angle

Unbending
This function has been improved in numerous ways :
 It is now possible to define a sheet rolling direction for setting the unbend direction.
 All the unbends in the document are now grouped together in the SET OF UNBEND MANAGER,
which enables quick drafting, for instance.

 It is possible to add rectangular or oblong notches to each bend of the unbend.

Unbend with rectangular notches Unbend with oblong notches

 The unbend can be oriented using the graphic handles to turn it by ± 90°.

A simple click on a handle (red) turns the unbend.

 When the unbend is created in a new document, the name of the new document may be predefined
in the section Sheet metal : unbending – New document in the function Tools | Options.

14 Missler Software
TopSolid'Design 2010: What's new TopSolid 2010

Multi-flat pattern
Multi-part components are now supported.

TopSolid’Image
In order to check the results obtained, the saved images are automatically displayed after saving is
completed.
Furthermore, so as not to disrupt the current display, the image is now displayed in a separate window.
This has the added advantage of precluding the loss of the displayed image when the screen is
refreshed.

software: 2010 version.

Views
Modifying attributes
It is henceforth possible to select attributes to be modified (color, line types, etc.) for projected elements,
regardless of the chosen mode of projection (option Views create 2d curves checked or unchecked in
the section Projection parameters in the function File | Properties).

Masking features

The function includes a new option HIDE OPERATION for masking all the lines of an operation in a
view.
For ease of use, you may select the operation in one view, or in the 3D model, and mask the lines of the
operation thus selected in another view.
When ambiguities are detected (for example, if there is drilling at the bottom of a pocket), different
operations are then provided in a drop down list.
The option Elements to be made invisible provides access to the option SHOW OPERATION which
does the reverse.
N.B.: This function is not compatible with slave parts.

Cut polygon
A cut polygon created in a design document may now be inserted into a view as long as it is located in a
plane that is parallel to the plane of projection.

Dimension
Dimension between 2 points
When a dimension between 2 points is created, a new option named SAME POINTS then becomes
available. This option allows the selected points to be retained to create a dimension in another direction.

Dimension table
 When creating a dimension table the new option COLUMN enables the user to select the data to be
displayed.
 From now onwards, the prefix and the suffix for the dimension, and the view title, may be displayed in
separate columns. The data in the Dimension and Tolerance columns may be displayed in various
ways and it is now also possible to define new columns.

18 Missler Software
TopSolid'Draft 2010: What's new TopSolid 2010

 In addition, the numbers from the table now appear on the dimensions.

Window for selecting the data to be An example dimension table

displayed in the dimension table

Cartesian points table

Henceforth, the position of indices may be defined when the table is created thanks to a drop-down list
providing the 9 possible positions (TOP RIGHT, CENTER TOP, TOP LEFT, CENTER RIGHT, etc.)
In addition, the default precision for the co-ordinates, diameter and drilling data can now be set in the
section Table / Bill of Materials – Cartesian points in the function Tools | Options and File |
Properties.

Drill tables by model

It is now possible to select drill models for display in the table, with different drill models in separate
tables.

Example drill tables, grouped into drill models.

Drill count
You can now define a drill count column in a drill table. Like BOMs, drilling with identical criteria is
grouped in the same column. This sort of table is therefore potentially incompatible with columns that
display the drill co-ordinates.

Missler Software 19
TopSolid 2010 TopSolid'Draft 2010: What's new

The model called IdNbTypZdpDepDia.dritpl is delivered as standard.

An example drill table featuring a drill count column

Drill dimensions
The new option Cumulated dimensions = YES enables identical drilling to be counted, including if
necessary that which is hidden on the same view, regardless of the method of creation (one by one, by
propagation, copied operations, etc.).

Drill dimension models

Drill dimensions may now be customized in order to display all possible data. In the same way as for drill
tables, this customization uses a model file (extension .Dridim), for managing different types of drill
dimensions.
The drill dimension model is selected in the section Dimension - Drill dimensions using the function
Tools | Options or File | Properties.

Composite dimension
Reorganizing composite dimensions, and ordinate dimensions in particular, has been improved thanks to
the option BREAK PROJECTION LINE which makes it possible to move the breakpoint of the
dimension.

Initial ordinate dimension / Reorganized ordinate dimension

Disconnect dimensions
To facilitate the repairing of drafts, the disconnect dimensions are henceforth grouped together in the
SET OF DISCONNECTED DIMENSIONS.

20 Missler Software
TopSolid'Draft 2010: What's new TopSolid 2010

JIS Standard
Angular dimensions and chamfer dimensions are now in accordance with the JIS standard.

Bends table
This new function allows you to obtain the list of all the bends in an unbend and to label each bend with a
note. The COLUMNS option allows you to select the data to be displayed in the table, this may also be
carried out in the section Sheet metal : unbending – Bends table in the function Tools | Options.

Selection of columns to display Bends table with notes

Bill of material
Bar code
You can now display the contents of certain columns in the BOM table as 39 or 128 type bar codes.
This modification is possible when creating a BOM model or when making changes to an existing BOM.

Units
Columns showing lengths can now display values in fractions of units. For this, you must indicate the
required precision (1/2, 1/4, 1/8, 1/16, etc.) in the FORMAT instruction of the column declaration.

Example BOM model with column displaying fractions of

units

Detailing
Bar code
When modifying text it can be converted into a 39 or 128 type bar code using the new options in the
dialog box:

Text
When creating text, it is now possible to select the font, height and angle of the text before it is inserted.
These changes can be previewed in order to check the resulting text.

Interfaces
 SolidWorks 2009 and Solid Edge ST (Synchronous Technology) formats are now supported.
 ACIS, STEP and Iges interfaces developed by Spatial are now available in the standard version.

TopSolid’Moldin the version 2010.

Parting elements
Color selection
You can now select your parting surfaces with a color filter. You can like this bypass the Parting
elements management, if you want to create directly your core/cavity blocks.

Movement

Wear plate
Use of the wear is extended to other libraries to allow their insertion in your design, on slide element or
locking heel.

Angular cam
It is now allowed to use a “square section” angular shape, in addition of the existing angular pin
component. The stroke is computed like in the same way than today.
The existing tools Adjust Angular pin and Angular pin processcan be used on this new component.

*Today only available in Misumi library.

Moldbase
Assign plates

It is now allowed to Insert a moldbase regarding many ways:

 Non standard moldbase
 Standard moldbase

And the what's new of TopSolid’Mold 2010:

24 Missler Software

 Assign plates

You can assign:

 Designed elements made with TopSolid’Mold. For example, you can now assign your core/cavity
blocks, designed at the plate’s dimensions.Once assigned, your blocks would be recognized as
moldbase plates. You prevent like this untie operation and set management.
 TopSolid’Design shapes. For example, you design your stack in TopSolid’Design, and want to use it
in TopSolid’Mold, as a “real” moldbase. It is now allowed.
 Non associative elements. You can like this, find for example your moldbase on Internet, in a sup-
plier website, or use some designs done with another CAD system.

User library
You can now define your own moldbase standard and save it in yourlibrary. It will be possible to create
your own catalog of standard moldbase.Like this, you will be able to insert your models at every time in
your current mold design.

Cooling system
Visualization
From the Cooling system management window, it is now possible to ask to keep the visualization
shape, to allow a visual checking in your 3D design. The kept shapes are now ASSOCIATIVES, so you
do not have any more to delete and create new shapes after a cooling modification.

Part + Cooling draw

During the projection of a 3D Cooling circuit, you can now directly ask for the projection of the circuit and
its linked part to inject.

TopSolid’Draft attributes
During the view creation, you can now use the color defined in your 3D to draw cooling system in the
view.
The thickness and the line styles are still defined by the configuration.

Runners and gates

New gates shapes
The geometrical definition of the gates has been totally reviewed to allow an easier insertion.

Position tools
The insertion has been updated to allow a better and more efficient insertion, with the help of
computation tools. In this way, you have a better management of the injection diameter and/or injection
area.

Components
Add of new components
We add a lot of new components, in various libraries:angular cam, slide core units, nipples, etc…

Ejector pins adjusted length

A new mode allows you to manage the ejector pins adjusted length regarding many rules. The length is
still computed at the component insertion, then:
 The ejector pins keep a constant drilling depth during the modifications.
 The ejector pins always keeps the initial drilling depth value.
 You modify the ejector pin diameter, and the system updates the adjusted length.

Cooperative works
The cooperative work is now in the kernel of all theTopSolid product range. As it was already done in the
last release of TopSolid’Mold, we add this year some new tools that allow a more secure data
management, to help in your daily works.

Synchronization management
You can now manage the synchronization options in a smart window. This new tools also allows you to
know in real time the progression of the global synchronization process. The progression of the user file
saving time is also displayed clearly in this window.

Undo synchronization
You can now undo a synchronization step. For example, if during the synchronization, the system detects
invalidity (because you try to apply different operation on the same edges), you will have the choice
between the fixing of this invalidity and the undo of synchronization.

Trim and thicken

This new function allows you to realize simultaneously a trimming and a thicken operation. This is really
useful to accelerate the creation of local unstamping stages.

Bend division
This new function allows you to divide in several parts a bend face.

Then it will be possible, to realize easily partial bends during the strip creation with creating only
complete bends. This method increases hugely the bending operation reliability. Moreover, it is possible
to apply different bending allowances for each step of the partial bend.

Missler Software 33
TopSolid 2010 TopSolid’Progress 2010: What's new

This function allows you also to divide a selection of faces in several parts with the option COMPLEX
BEND. It is useful during the emboss parts preparation with partial bends.

In each case, it is necessary to make this operation before to import the part.

Define guiding edges

This new function allows you to take in account, during the unbending, the not unbendable transition
areas of a part.

In fact, the non unbendable parts are replaced by the length of the guiding edge defined with this
function. The unbending of these areas take in account of the bend allowances.

The transition parts are ignored on the imported unbended part.

Strip design
Forced position of stations
With the Modify function, it is possible to force the position of each station of the strip to create a strip
with empty stations.

This option is very useful to create the strip for connector parts, this a lot of empty stations. It allows you
to increase the software performance with lighten the strip. It allows you to increase the software
performance with lighten the strip.

Bending stage
A new function allows you to generate the different intermediate bending stages. It is possible to choose
the wanted number of stages.
A bending stages set is automatically created. It is possible to analyse the collisions between this set and
the different tooling sets.

Standard component definition

Computed mesures
A new measure type is available: Computation. This allows a measure to be computed with formula
instead of picking on a topology to get a value.

This type of measure can be used with rectangular punches and dies for instance when diagonal of
rectangle is a code choice criterion (as this cannot be directly picked by user, but can be deduced from
wanted length and width).

Formula for definition uses the same syntax as parameters in TopSolid. Replace sub parameters names
by references measures defined by [Mmesureid].

Missler Software 35
TopSolid 2010 TopSolid’Progress 2010: What's new

Example: if measure 4 is to be used as diagonal value of a measure2 * measure3 rectangle, measure 4

will be expressed this way: sqrt([M2]*[M2]+[M3]*[M3]).

The new check box named ask measure in manual mode is available. It is to force a
measure to be keyboard typed instead of picked in file. This also supposes measure cannot
be skipped.

Drive the drilling bottom angle

Previously, drilling bottom angle of processes was defined by Tools/Options and constant for
all drillings. It can now be forced in process definition by specifying parameter:

This document describes the improvements made to the TopSolid’Wood software: 2010 version.

Finalization of the turning of parts in machining exports

Following the enhancements made to the 2009 version, enabling the management of part turning during
the machining export phase and thus providing for the generation one or two machining files, it is now
possible to optimize the selection of the first positioning reference face.
Optimization of this face is automatic when the part is first defined, thanks to an analysis of the number of
operations for each face.

In the example below, the top was assembled and machined before the part was defined (Wood | Define
part). The face is selected automatically.

Should the part be defined and then modified by the design functions, the main positioning will then need
to be manually updated via the option Update machining face.

If the result of the optimized face does not satisfy the user's requirements, it may be adjusted using the
change arrows.

Selection of the machining face

Still in the Machining tab in Define part, there are two new options for verifying the notion of calibration
and operations on lateral faces .

Automatic codification of edges

A new tab Automatic codification of edges is now available in the " Edge / Laminate " section in
Tools | Options.

This tab can be used to create the edge codification rules in order to automatically generate the
company's own set of codifications.

These same codifications will then be used by the edge and panel functions .

The rule of codification may use all the following information:

 The material
 The coating
 The edge code
 The height of the edge
 The thickness of the edge
 The length of the edge
 The calibration overvaluation

The " Generate " button displays all the generated codifications in the " Automatic codifications " zone.

Bar codes in the bills of materials and title blocks

It is now possible to use bar codes in the TopSolid’Wood BOMs and title blocks. To do so, the user can
modify text or formatted text to display it in 128 or 39 type bar code font. In the modification box for the
text, simply check the bar code to be used when creating the BOM column.

possibility of configuring all the options below:

Nesting calculation type:

The management mode for the nesting definition file(s):

Missler Software 49
TopSolid 2010 TopSolid'Wood 2010: What's new

The management modes for the nesting result file(s):

Part orientation
The degrees of freedom of the parts during nesting are now in accordance with the definition of the part.

During the Wood definition of the part, for a grain orientation:

 No grain orientation: Operation unchanged.
 Grain along length axis: The authorized rotations are 0° and 180° (step = 180° and minimum = 0°).
 Grain along width axis: The authorized rotations are 90° and 270° (step = 180° and minimum = 90°).

BOM functions
BOM functions have been added for accessing certain nesting data from a nested part:

Nesting name, designation and number of instances of the nesting, offcut rate, total perimeter, perimeter
of one part, internal perimeter of one part, surface area of one part, weight of one part, length of one part,
length of one part along the X-axis, length of one part along the Y-axis.

These functions are accessible through the BOM editor.

It is also possible to insert nesting data in the title block using the BOM properties insert.

Multi-drafting of nestings
The nesting multi-drafting function makes it possible to draft nestings (rectangular part containing nested
parts) for one or more nestings automatically by selecting a directory or the current document and a draft
template.

A Template document must be created in the function, Wood | Multi-draft nesting labels.

Once the Template document has been created, the function may be used to start creating the
nesting drafts.

The multi-drafting takes the way in which the nesting was generated into account when producing dft
documents: one dft document per nesting set, which may be multi-folio if the set contains more than one
nesting on different levels (one folio per level).

Multi-drafting of labels
The Multi-draft nesting labels function makes it possible to draft labels (draft of a nested part) for one or
more nestings automatically by selecting a directory or the current document and a draft template.

A Template document must be created in the function,

Wood | Multi-draft nesting labels.

Once the Template document has been created, the function may be used to start creating the
nesting drafts.

The multi-drafting of labels takes the way in which the nesting was generated into account when
producing dft documents, one dft document per nesting. This document is multi-folio (one folio per part,
i.e. one label).

Calibration operation

The new calibration operation allows the user to select the calibration to be applied to a part. This
operation is exported to TopSolid’WoodCam and the machining interfaces.
There are several selection modes available for this:
The rectangular mode makes it possible to select the rectangular path enclosing the part:

Selecting an edge path makes it possible to select more than one of the part's edges:

Selecting a curve. You can then create your own calibration path using a curve:
After selecting a curve or an edge path, arrows are used to choose the direction of calibration and the
side of the tool:

52 Missler Software
TopSolid'Wood 2010: What's new TopSolid 2010

It is thereby possible to apply several calibration operations on one part using different tools, depths and
processes:

This now enables the association of rectangular calibration, as well as calibration which has an edge
path selection for carrying out additional milling.

Overlapping operations
The overlapping of operations was not previously managed by the export to the machining interfaces.
From version 6.11 onwards, the following operations have been made possible.

Improvements to edge veneering

A number of limitations concerning edges have been lifted in this new version.

The first concerns miter cuts for edges with different thicknesses. Previously, the miter cut between two
edges of differing thicknesses was not true:

The second limitation is in relation to the veneering of an edge on a part with an angular cut, which now
becomes possible with this version:

54 Missler Software
TopSolid'Wood 2010: What's new TopSolid 2010

The last improvement concerns the veneering of curved faces, in the case of round panels or with fillets,
the laminate did not cover the edge correctly.

Creation path for the dxf

This new feature enables the creation path for dxf files to be set by default for all the configurations of all
the DXF interfaces.

The creation path is declared in the configuration file that corresponds to the interface. By default this file
is located in C:\Missler\Config\dxf_wood.

The line ‘DIRECTORY.SAVE’ indicates the default storage directory for the dxf file.

Automatic import of 3D models for building up a hardware library

Increasing numbers of hardware suppliers are offering hardware ranges in 3D CAD format, so an
advanced import function has therefore been developed to allow such hardware to be used under
TopSolid'Wood.

Missler Software 55
TopSolid 2010 TopSolid'Wood 2010: What's new

Much more than simple conversion, this function now makes it possible to verify data concerning the
component via a text file or an Excel spreadsheet and does not therefore simply open and save in .top
format.

Exporting a BOM
The parts to be exported in a BOM can be selected according to criteria (material - coating - thickness or

other properties) directly from the 3D model using the function Wood | Export Bill of Material .

The interactive selection of parts is the same as that used by the materials editor.
However, it is possible to use a BOM filter so that only certain parts, those that comply with the criteria of
the selected filter, are taken into account.

TopSolid’Wood Constrained Block

Modeling rectangular parts has been simplified to the extreme. Sketches, dimensions and constraints are
no longer required to design, position and repeat a rectangular part.

New generation of components

Driver faces for the constrained block

In a matter of clicks, the user can dimension and position a component based on the constrained block.
Creating and using standard components such as shelves, partitions, floors, doors, drawers, etc. is
therefore significantly simplified.

Automatic activation of processes

The processes associated with one component may now automatically operate on all the parts
concerned by these operations. It is no longer necessary to select the face to be drilled or the path for a
groove, the AUTOMATIC button automatically activates all the operations on the parts concerned.

Publication for even easier interchangeability

The notion of publication involves a new method of positioning by constraints. They enable components
to be assembled from virtual faces / edges declared in the model. You no longer need to name the faces
and parts since the process no longer hinges on the geometry of the component.

The publication is created using the function Assembly | Define component | Define publications.

The faces of the publications may be defined manually from faces, coordinate systems or edges or
through use of the Automatic mode which now makes it possible to automatically create and publish the
6 faces of a virtual volume enclosing the parts of the main assembly.

Automatic insertion of processes, positioning and publications

All processes, positioning and publications for one component may be retrieved for another component.
This allows you to create a single template file, for concealed hinges for instance, which may then be

58 Missler Software
TopSolid'Wood 2010: What's new TopSolid 2010

used for all concealed hinges to avoid having to recreate their associated tools, key points and
publications.

Automatically inherited processes for sub-components regardless of their level

of assembly
No need to declare the sub-component's associated tools in the final component. If, for example, a hinge
has a base plate with previously associated drilling processes, the drilling can now be directly
implemented on assembly of the hinge.

Multi-drafting
Multi-drafting has now been enhanced.

This document describes the improvements made to the machining application of TopSolid’Cam software
in 2010 release.

General
Symmetrical parts
During the propagation, by symmetry, of a part with machining operations, these operations are also
made symmetrical by keeping their cut’s characteristics, as for example, climbing of conventional modes.
This profound modification required a complete revision of the method used to manage symmetrical
parts. Attention, further to these modifications, the tool paths of the left part and the right part can be
rather different. Attention, further to these modifications, the tool paths of the left part and the right part
can be rather different. So, the tool paths stay in their original mode, even if it is a helical machining or a
pocketing. Also, the lead in/out conditions are respected on the left part or on the right part.

Original Part Symmetrical Part

Edition of the operation's geometry

When the “neutral mode” in ON, a new function enables the edition of the operation’s geometry. This new
feature is available for most operations (drillings, turning, contour milling and pocketing).
It is also possible to edit the machining operation’s geometry from the operations manager by using the
contextual menu.

Drilling
General
 In the list of the drilled entities ("Geometry" tab), a function, via the contextual menu, allows informa-
tion to be obtained about every drilled element (diameter, depth, etc.).
 For manual drilling operations, TopSolid’Cam automatically activates, during the first selection, the
WCS allowing manufacturing geometry. If none of the already existing WCSs are compatible, TopSo-
lid’Cam creates a new WCS by setting the selected face as reference.
 A new option gives, in the alpha bar, information (N° face, diameter, depth for a cylinder) about the
element which has just been selected, limiting the selection errors.
 The operator can configure the default state of this option by using [Edition] [Options] menu.

Limitations of the area of part analysis

A feature allows the analysis of features / cylinders to be limited to a part of the part. This allows:
 Reducing time necessary for the analysis when certain areas of the part don’t have to be considered.

66 Missler Software
TopSolid’Cam 2010: What's new TopSolid 2010

 Seeing only features / cylinders present in the limitation area

Thread milling
Many improvements have been added to the thread milling:
 Addition of the parameter "Thread Standard".
 Addition of the parameter "Entries Number".
 Addition of the possibility to manually define the thread pitch.
 A check box allows the user to distinguish the automatic mode (the pitch is given by the tool) or the
manual mode (the pitch is given by the user). In this last case, the tool has to be mono-thread (the
same kind of tool used in turning) and not like a chaser tool.

Tapping, boring and thread milling

In tapping, boring and thread milling operations, TopSolid’Cam takes into account the machining
information to choose the right tool when the user selects a face belonging to a feature (standard, thread
pitch, tolerance, etc.).
In the case of thread milling operations, the value of the nominal diameter is that of the feature (and not
that of the diameter of the face, which is smaller). It is also true for the value of the number of entries.

Feature analysis
Geometrical parameter "bottom type" in the shape "Cylindrical Hole" has been added. It is thereby
possible to exploit this geometrical data in a process (to choose the tool for example).

5 axis drilling
 An option allows the user to avoid collisions between the finish (or the stock) and the tool (+ chuck)
between every hole in 5 axis drilling operations. If collisions are discovered, retracts are added in a
specific way on each of them: TopSolid’Cam optimizes retracts above the material met during the col-
lision.

 Various 2D optimization modes of tool paths (X and YZIG, Y and XZIG, X and YZIGZAG, Y and XZIG-
ZAG) allow rapid movements for the 5 axis drilling operation to be reduced. In that case, it is possible
to select the frame in which TopSolid’Cam will make the optimization.

Collisions
TopSolid’Cam shows, in the alpha bar, holes not being able to be realized when there is a collision (use
the option "Control collisions during the drilling operation" in operations manager).
Note: In the "geometry" tab of the drilling operation, holes that could not be made, because of a collision,
were already specified.

Pull spot facing

A parameter to be able to specify the clearance distance at the end of the operation has been added.

¾ drilling
Two supplementary parameters allow the setting of the spindle speed when the tool goes into the hole
and when the tool exists from the hole.

Miscellaneous
Dialog boxes
When the dialog boxes are resizable, maximize and minimize buttons have been added.

2D Milling
Contouring

Optimized contour milling

Following the example of drillings, when several contours milling of closed forms are realized
successively, it is possible to execute them in a different order to minimize rapid movements.

Lead in, Lead out

In case of tangential lead in/out, it is possible to define the value of the existing angle between the linear
vector and the arc of a circle linking shape to be manufactured. It is also possible to define the method
used for the prolongation of the tool path, either in pure tangency, or in continuance of the curvature.
This avoids marking parts.

New lead in/Out Tool path prolongations, tangency (1) or curva-

ture (2)

Variable feed rates and loops

To favor the realization of perfect edges during the machining of wooden panels, modifications were
made in the algorithms of contour milling enabling the variation of the feed rate and the addition of loops
in the tool change direction areas. Necessary parameters are:
 Loop: Yes/No
 Loop radius (by default, 2 x the diameter of the tool)
 Distances from which the slowing down is made and from which nominal feed rate is resumed.
 The coefficient of reduction of the feed rate (two parameters too)
 Angle below which TopSolid’Cam creates loops.

Pass depth
In pocketing, open pockets and contour milling, it is possible to set a final path depth bigger than the
value of the "maximum axial pass depth". The maximum axial pass depth is used to calculate the number

68 Missler Software
TopSolid’Cam 2010: What's new TopSolid 2010

of passes to be made according to the material height. In certain cases, it is imperative to be able to have
a depth of the last pass superior to the depth of the intermediate passes (reduction of vibrations during
the machining of parts having small thickness).

Milling forms analysis

The Open Pockets can be handled in the Milling Forms Analysis. A parameter "is_pocket" is set by the
analysis. His value is 0 for Open Pockets and 1 for Closed Pockets.
(Look at form3.frm as sample).

Pocketing
In a several Z passes pocketing, the integrated contouring can be done on the last Z pass only.

Multi-pockets
Plunging points can be defined for each pocket.

Mouse facing
A new parameter (Feedrate_type) defines the first feed rate (Work Feed Rate, Rapid or Tool Feed Rate).
The default value is Tool Feed Rate.
It is possible to follow a sketch to define the tool path.

3D Milling
Parallel processing
Parallel Planes Technology, Radial Parallel Planes Technology and Constant Crest Machining are using
Parallel Processing! Executing these operations on a Core2Duo or on a Quad Core computer is, about, 2
or 4 times faster than on a mono-core computer.

3D Multi- pockets
This function allows the manufacturing of a set of pockets defined with 2D contours (in a top view) and
the bottom of which is defined by a shape. This function realizes the roughing and the finishing of the
pockets.

PPT
It is now possible to limit the Parallel Plane Machining to the zone in touch with faces indicated by the
user (“geometry” Tab).

3D manual edition
The manual edition of 3D tool paths was improved. It is now possible to:
 Measure between the tool path and the shape to be machined.
 Display the coordinates of the current point.
In addition, a cursor which allows movement along the tool path has been added. Some minor display
problems have been fixed.

Default values
A new option, to not reinitialize the 3D operations parameters when the part is modified, has been added
in [File][Properties] and [Edition][Option].
By default, this option is activated. (ZMI_3D_MACHINING_DONT_MODIFY_PARAMETER)

Missler Software 71
TopSolid 2010 TopSolid’Cam 2010: What's new

5D Milling
Swarf milling
It is possible to make a swarf operation on ruled, not developable surfaces by minimizing errors inevitably
inherent to this technology (overcuts or undercuts) and by smoothing the tool path. This option is
particularly interesting for customers who make impellers.

 It is possible to manage 5 axis diameter tool compensation. Be careful, it is necessary that the
machine-tool controller knows how to manage this and that the PPs are adapted.

Turning
Revolution envelop
It is possible to define a profile as being the revolution envelope of the finished part to manufacture. The
function which calculates the revolution envelope proposes 2 options, automatic or manual (from
sections positioned by the operator). This offers a supplementary choice so that the operator can directly
draw a CLOSED profile as being the result of the calculation of the envelope. In this case, it is the
operator who gives the result.

Axial drilling
 The axial gun drilling and axial ¾ drilling have been added.
 The recognition of holes intersection for axial operations (drilling, boring, ¾ drilling) has been added.

Miscellaneous
It is possible to set the duration time of the annex operations like M and G.

WCS
« Side » WCS
The objective of this function is to create a WCS which allows a face to be manufactured with the side of
the tool and not with its bottom.
TopSolid'Cam 2010 manually creates a WCS from another already defined WCS by rotating this one.

WCS for End Machining WCS for Side machining

WCS list
A new function, accessible through the contextual menu, deletes one or several WCSs which are not
used.

Management of machining operations

Operations manager
 A new tab, called cutting conditions tab, has been added. This tab enables the presentation of the
cutting conditions of all the machining operations under the shape of a table. Common parameters
appear in the same columns and can be edited simultaneously or individually. The purpose of this
table is to be able to modify the same parameter belonging to different operations, without being obli-
ged to edit the operations themselves.

Missler Software 73
TopSolid 2010 TopSolid’Cam 2010: What's new

 During the search for a text in operations manager, it is possible to respect, or not, the text case.

Reproduction of the operation plan

During the reproduction of the operation plan, certain geometrical entities are used several times in
different operations. It is not necessary to set identical geometries which have already been identified.
There is a new button with 2 states {AUTOMATIC SELECTION / MANUAL SELECTION}.

Simulation
A new control manages operations simulation. It should be more effective in the simulation of Swiss
Turning machines. Based on the total time of the operations selected, this control allows the operator to
go forward and backwards along the tool path - this favors the debugging of programs by operators.

Collision control
Collision control with machine-tools elements
When machine tools are very complete and very detailed, for example wood machines, decreased
control collision calculation times require a reduction in the number of elements for which it is useful to
test for collisions. It is now possible to declare the elements with which a user wants to test the collision.
To do this, it is necessary to create a group called "collision xxx" and, in this group, to attribute the
property "Element of collision" and, in the window of configuration of collisions, to indicate that control
has to be made only with the elements which possess property "Element of collision".

Shop floor documents & Methods

Documents
 The notion of “Document sets” has been added. A “document set” regroups diverse shop floor docu-
ments which must be published every time a production is launched.
 Note: it is SheetFolders.par which is stored in TOPCONFIG, but if the same file is present in TOP-
GROUP, it will be loaded too. On the other hand, it is not possible to modify the file TOPGROUP from
TopSolid'Cam, it is necessary to pass through an editor.
 The following models have been added:
• Turret Tools

• Table to provide the total tool time for a tool since the beginning of the operation plan
(Op.tool_cumuled_*).
• « Sorted Used Tools » et « Table of Sorted used tools », where the tools are sorted with the Loca-
tion Tool Number.

Methods
For a better understanding, the message which is on the button to select already existing operations has
been modified.

Tools
 The size of the dialog box which allows the choice of a tool has been enlarged.
 When the option ZMI_BD_SHOW_BUTTON_WCS = 1, it is now possible to choose the tool orienta-
tion on C axis (For machines which are not turning machines).

Machining operations
Calibration with loop for solid wood
The calibration function has been enhanced with an option for creating a loop in convex angles, without
exceeding the radius compensation so as to avoid splintering on parts made from solid wood.

Cutting conditions

taken into account when setting feed rates.
The feed rate speed can now also be set to slow down automatically when the tool reaches the end of
the material.

A simplified application for swarf machining sloping faces

It is now easy to set the tool orientation to use the side of the tool directly, rather than its extremity.

Automated 3D Contouring
The 2010 version enables you to machine the CAD-generated grooves-folds-molds automatically, with
the "fixed direction" option, without the 4-5 axis 3D extension.

Advanced management for open pockets

Open pockets are now correctly recognized during the automatic analysis, thanks to a dedicated
property which distinguishes them from closed pockets.

Missler Software 79
TopSolid 2010 TopSolid'WoodCam 2010: What's new

This provides extra precision for machining customization per process.

User calibration
During the automatic operation analysis, CAD-generated customized calibrations on the part are directly
machinable. This provides extra automation, even for parts with very specific calibration.

Machining for Nestings

Managing changes to a nesting
After making changes to one part of a nesting (adding or deleting an operation, changing dimensions,
etc.) it is now possible to decide whether or not to re-generate the nesting, and to re-generate the
machining whilst retaining complete associativity.

Multi-machining all the nestings for a .top file

The 2010 version multi-machining allows you to make use of nesting results without delay. The list of
nestings for the project may be used to select the boards to be machined and also the operations to be
processed for each board.
Turning the nesting for machining the second face, as well as optimizing the machining paths, are also
available possibilities in multi-machining.

Managing aligned drillings for a nesting

If the " Create all the parts " option is selected when a nesting is positioned, multi-drilling will be then
available in the analysis of operations for this nesting.

Defining the machine

Proposition for positioning rails and pods
When positioning the part on the machine, TopSolid'WoodCam 2010 can provide suggestions for
positioning the rails and pods, based on the outline of the part and the emergent operations. The user
may change this positioning at any time if so required.

Interchangeability of pods
It is now possible to interchange one pod for another whilst retaining the kinematics of the machine and
also therefore the proposition for the positioning of the rails and pods.

82 Missler Software

Checking for collisions

The simulation allows you to check for collisions more quickly because you may now choose to select
only certain elements of the machine, such as the rails and pods, for example.

Multi-machining
Generating a second machining file
The new part definition settings enable the generation of a second machining program automatically
during the multi-machining process, for performing operations on the second face if necessary.

Improved management of missing tools

The multi-machining process can proceed even if some tools are missing.

Missler Software 83
TopSolid 2010 TopSolid'WoodCam 2010: What's new

The processing journal now indicates whether any non-processing is due to the tool being absent from
the magazine.

Preview of manually nested parts

Purpose of the function

During the manual nesting of parts using the function Insert part, a floating window can be kept open
with the preview of all the nested parts, in order to facilitate the selection of the part to be inserted.

Prerequisite configuration
Tools / Options

It is possible to configure the size of each preview as well as the presentation of the dialog box.
To limit the distortion of the previews, a ratio lets you readjust the size of the preview if the ratio between
the dimensions exceeds a configurable limit.

Instructions for use

As soon as the function "Insert part" is activated, the preview floating dialog box appears. When first
used, the box appears in the top right-hand corner of the TopSolid window if vertical, or in the bottom left-
hand corner if it has been made horizontal.

If the box is moved, it will take up the last selected position again (vertical or horizontal).

Missler Software 89
TopSolid 2010 TopSolid'SheetMetal 2010: What's new

The icon at the top of the thumbnails box allows the box to be changed from a "vertical" position to a
"horizontal" one and vice versa.

When you "single click" a part preview, the selection is marked out in red.
When you double click on the preview, the floating box disappears and the selected part appears at the
mouse cursor in dynamic mode. It is ready for insertion into the sheet.

As long as the part preview floating box is on screen, it is always possible to:
 click a part in the sheet to add it,
 use the buttons in the query bar to find a new part via the buttons "Explorer", "Search" or "Select from
tasks manager".

Empty sheet
When an empty sheet is created, the system enquires as to the machine, the material and the thickness
in order to select either the rectangular sheet format from the sheet library, or a non-rectangular sheet
(prerequisite: complex nesting user license).

The next query bar enables you to enter a nesting order by adding parts and the quantities to be nested.

When you have clicked OK in the nesting order box, the following query bar

lets you:

 execute the nesting using automatic nesting,

or
 carry out the nesting manually.

PR Amada Loader / unloader - Dynamic movement of the PR arms

Purpose of the function

Improved "unload parts" function.
When the unload parts function with the PR Amada zuckers is used for the first time on a part or offcut,
the upper arm (B) is henceforth positioned as far away as possible in accordance with the size of the
part, to enable an improved hold on the part.
If the upper arm is in its maximum position, the position of the lower arm (A) is readjusted upwards to
balance the hold.

Light geometry

Purpose of the function

Difficulties may arise when nesting small parts with many geometry elements: heavily worked parts, with
lots of text or lettering to cut out or engrave.
Nesting this sort of part on the sheet in large quantities may considerably slow down the display; the
resulting display may not even be complete because of a shortage of memory.
An new option makes it possible to create parts in the nesting set with so-called "light" geometry,
including far fewer database elements, which makes it easier to process.

Instructions for use

In the "General" tab of the nesting order dialog box, a new button "Advanced" provides access to this
option.

Restrictions on use
This option is only valid for "pure laser" and "non multi-head" machines.
Each PCH part must be completely machined because it is not possible to assign cutting allocations
directly to the nesting on parts with light geometry.
However, if laser machining is required locally on a given part in the nesting, it is possible to transform a
part with "light geometry" in order to see all its geometry (clickable) and vice versa.
In the nesting document, use the menu function: "Nesting" "Geometry of the parts"

The query bar below enables you to transform the selected part(s).

ZPCH_IMPORT_V7_USE_DIR1 "C:\Projects\Unfold v7”
Make sure that there is a tabulation between each word.
The directory must exist before TopSolid is started up.

Prerequisites in TopSolid 7
After performing the part unfold(s) with TopSolid 7, you must use Topsolid 7 to export the unfolds with

Associativity - Update
When the configuration word ZPCH_IMPORT_V7_USE_DIR is activated, a new status icon (two-colored
indicator light) is displayed on the left of each icon bar of the PCH document.

During the importation of the v7 file with the extension TopSMi, an intermediary file with the extension
.top is created in the same location as the v7 file, and the v7 file is then deleted.

When the design office modifies the 3D sheet metal part, and therefore the unfold, with TopSolid 7, and
when that modification has been validated, it will create a new TopSMi file in the same place as before (in
the exchange directory).

100 Missler Software

TopSolid'SheetMetal 2010: What's new TopSolid 2010

When TopSolid’SheetMetal v6 opens the PCH file, or a nesting file (MEG) containing the PCH part, the

deleted.

If the PCH document is open when the design office validates its modification with the TopSMi file, the

status icon of the PCH document will turn red .

It is then necessary to activate this icon to update the PCH document.

The same applies if a nesting document is open, the status icon will turn red: .

It is then essential to use the function "Update nesting and parts" .

New MultiTools Features

Purpose of the function

In the former version, the angle of the first multitool station was 0° and the station tool path directions
were trigonometrical. These data were fixed and the displayed diameter for the station in multitool was
the same for all multitool stations.

New parameters now make it possible to define, for each multitool:

 whether or not all the multitool stations are to be distributed with the same angle between each
station
 the angle of the first station, plus the distribution direction of the stations

when the stations are not distributed with the same angle, you can now define the X and y positions for
the station in relation to the center of the multi tool. The maximum diameter for the multitool station is
then displayed with its exact dimension

Prerequisite configuration

to the mother sheet used to make the part.
When the mother sheet has been used several times (via the "Save sheet as an offcut" function), you can
trace all the stages of the sheet as well as all the parts made from it. The statuses are displayed in a
dialog box and may be edited in a Draft document or an Excel document.

Instructions for use

Editing the Draft document

This document comprises one pager per traced mother sheet. There you will find 2 tables: one containing
the list of nestings performed, the other the list of parts made.

The template Draft document is called Traceability.dft

It is initially found in the PUNCHDATA directory: \Missler\Group\Punchdata

If it is not present, the default template is used (see the directory: \Missler\Vxxx\local\English)

Editing a document in Excel format

When the "Create Excel file" button is activated in the dialog box, the ‘Microsoft Excel’ application is
launched and a new workbook is created. The workbook comprises 3 worksheets. The first worksheet
contains the list of "mother matters".

The 2nd worksheet contains the list of "nestings made".

The 3rd worksheet contains the list of "tasks done".

machining is not supported in sub-routines, i.e. it will be excluded from sub-routines

Displaying non-machined curves

Purpose of the function

A new function in the "Edit" menu makes it possible to "display not allocated contours".
These are highlighted by a thick mauve line.

Prerequisite configuration
Configuration in Tools - Options
After the automatic punch machining, it is possible to launch this search and display the contours which
were not able to be machined with the available tools.

Cutting
Retracted lead in / out on closed profile

Purpose of the function

When a laser-cut part has offcuts which are also finished parts, it is not possible to lead in / out right in
the middle of the material. The new feature allows leading along the continuity of the profile to be
machined. This is already available for open profiles.

Restrictions on use
The profile must not feature any micro joints. No lead out on the profile laser trajectory. The retracted
lead will be positioned at the start of the segment on which the lead in is located.

Instructions for use

Use the spanner and designate the lead in to be modified. The button which enables the lead in to
be changed is only available if the restrictions above have been lifted

Micro joints during laser assignment

Purpose of the function

Positioning micro joints at corners and / or distributed along the external contour of the part during the
automatic assignment of laser sequences.
Positioning one single micro joint on the internal and / or external contours to prevent the offcut / part
swinging (if the contour does not already have a micro joint).
The micro joint is positioned on the contour if the contour matches the criteria in terms of size, and the
micro joint position can be configured (see Tools / Options).

Prerequisite configuration
Tools / Options

NOTE
It is not possible to request micro joints positioned at the corner and / or distributed along the external
contour, and at the same time request a single joint on this external contour to prevent it from swinging.
Configuration criteria for the placing of a micro joint per contour to prevent swinging

INTERNAL Contour
A micro joint is placed if the dimension of the contour is over 30 mm and under 150 mm (configurable
values)
 Internal circular contour: the micro joint is placed at the circle's start point
 Internal rectangular contour: the micro joint is placed at the center of the rectangle's smallest
segment
 Internal oblong contour: the micro joint is placed at the center of the arc
 Other internal contour: the micro joint is placed in priority at the center of an arc, or at the center of a
line failing that.

EXTERNAL Contour
A micro joint is systematically placed if the size of the contour is under 150 mm (configurable value)
The micro joint is place in priority on a corner between 2 lines if the angle is equal to 90° tolerance within
45° (the tolerance is configurable) only if the length of the lines is greater than or equal to 5 mm
(configurable value).

116 Missler Software

TopSolid'SheetMetal 2010: What's new TopSolid 2010

If the micro joint could not be placed, an attempt will be made to position it at the center of the part's
largest arc, if the length of the arc is above 4 mm and below 35 mm (configurable values).
If the micro joint has not been placed, it will be placed at the center of the largest line of the external
contour.

Configuring the micro joints distributed along the external contour

The lengths of the lines and also the number of micro joints distributed (for automatic assignment) are
configurable by material / thickness (via the menu "management – micro joints").

If no data is input for a given material / thickness, the number of micro joints by default will be that used
for automatic splitting.

Instructions for use

Automatic laser machining query bar

All the values set in "Tools / Options" can be modified locally; the values are retained for the duration of
the TopSolid session.

Missler Software 117

TopSolid 2010 TopSolid'SheetMetal 2010: What's new

The distributed micro joints are only created on a line if no distributed micro joints already exist before
starting the automatic laser machining (the micro joints already present on a line are therefore not
replaced).
The micro joint for preventing swinging is only placed if no micro joint is present on the contour.

The query bar for the "Manual cutting" function

The micro joint is created if the contour meets the size criteria. The micro joint is placed with a click at the
required start point.

Default burning mode

Purpose of the function

Possibility of specifying the default burning mode for a given machine (when burning is activated).

Prerequisite configuration
The configuration word now enables you to change the parameters as required for burning on all the
cuttings or alternatively just the lead in and it is also possible to generate a machine STOP after the
burning operation on the sheet.

# Default burning mode for a given machine:

# 1st parameter0 = none, 1 = on the sheet, 2 = by SP (0 = default)
# 2nd parameter0 = all elements, 1 = lead in only (0 = default)
# 3rd parameter0 = no stop after burning, 1 = position a stop at # the end of burning (0 = default)
#ZCUT_DEFAULT_BURNING_MODE "tl3030" 1 1 1
