Narrative Report

The Level IV Bachelor of Science in Nursing students of the Laguna State

Polytechnic University was given a brief discussion about Republic Act 9262, also

known as the Anti-violence against women and children Act of 2004, courtesy of their

clinical instructor Myranie L. Sy, MAN, RN last December 19, 2018 at the Anatomy

room of the College of Nursing and Allied Health.

The discussion commenced at 9:00 in the morning with the said instructor

distributing handouts to the students to serve as a guide throughout their lecture. The

following topics were involved in the lecture: What is Republic Act 9262? Who is

protected under the law? Who are the people involved? What are the penalties undertaken

if the law is violated? And what can women and children do under the law? Mrs. Sy had

also emphasized on what the student nurses can do if they are aware of any violation as

well as their role as future nurses which may involve not only physical treatment for the

victims but also the psychological support they can render especially those suffering from

trauma. The lecture concluded at exactly 10:45 in the morning.

Throughout the lecture, the student nurses learned that their role on protection and

safety does not end in the hospital nor clinic but also in the community. They were

inspired to raise awareness of the said law and emphasize the safety of those who

suffered from abuse.
