OBJECTIVE

Investigate the magnetic field produced around the conductor when the current flows in a straight
conductor and finally determine the earth’s magnetic flux.

PROCEDURE

1. equipment were set up as shown in the figure. the wire were make sure that the horizontal and
along the earth meridian with the help of ruler and the deflection of magnetometer by
balancing it.
2. The 3A current were flown in the wire and the height of the wire (h) form the table until angle
of deflection (θ) of about 30° was obtained.
3. the direction of the current were reversed in the wire and the deflection angle were recorded.
4. step 2 and 3 were repeated in order to get 8 different values of θ with the change of
heights(h) while value of current were keep constant.
5. the graph of cot θ versus h were plotted and the gradient of the graph were recorded. And the
horizontal magnetic flux density of the earth B were calculated in tesla \
6. the experiment were repeated with using the current of 4A and the graph of cot θ versus h
were plotted on the same axis. the gradient of the graph (S2) were recorded.
7. The difference in expected of S2/S1 and value we get from the experiment were calculated
percentage.

DISCUSSION

The percentage error that we get from the experiment is 54.7% which is very high. The reason that

CONCLUSION

For the conclusion that we got from the experiment, the value of magnetic field will be higher if the
current used is lower. For instance the Magnetic field that we got with using 3A of current is
5.291× 10−5 T and with the current that we got with suing 4A is 2.908 ×10−5 T .

the percentage that we got between the experimental value and the expected value is 54.67%
