External Power Supply Proposal

Aim :
To power the ROV using external power unit for increased time of operation.

Block Diagram :
Our External PSU has 2 main blocks shown in the diagram below;

Requirements :
Detailed explanation follows below;

1. Power Supply System​​:​ It consists of two Sub-Systems;

1A. ​PSU on the Topside/Ground Station


Specifications:
● Input = AC and DC powered
● Output DC Power = 1.7 kW (400V)
● Safety Features to cut off topside power supply:
■ Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter
■ Line Breaker
■ Line Insulation Monitor
● Splash Proof or Water Proof (IP65 or IP67 rated)

1B. ​PSU on board the ROV


Specifications:
● Safety Fuse
● Relay for Switching from External Power to On-board Battery
● Input to the Board = 300 V to 400V
● Output to the Board = 16V @ 90A + 5V@ 10A
● Cope with heating issues inside the Hull Enclosure.

2. Tether Management System:​​ It consists of two Sub-Systems;

2A. ​Reel
Specifications:
● Motorized free reeling of the spool for retrieval of the tether.
● Manual override for reeling.
● Whole electronics/electrical parts should be Splash-proof.
● Material for manufacturing reel should be Marine graded and Corrosion free.
