Narrative Report: Part I

CPA Testimonial Party for May 2015 Board Passers
July 25, 2015

On July 25, 2015, the BSA Department hosted one of its most important events, the CPA
Testimonial Party. Usually, this is done on the month of October but after the results of the May
Board Exam revealed that a lot of the Board Takers passed it, we felt it necessary to have two
separate celebrations for the May 2015 and October 2015 Board Passers. The CPAs who passed
this May 2015 Board Exam were Sigrid Faye Abadilla, Zyross Abigail Abrera, Lurilyn
Belarmino, Reina Christelle Cariaga, Camille Joyce Constantino, Joseph Cesar Dizon,
Charmaine Honey de Luna and Paulette Krizz Lusterio. The CPA Testimonial Party is an annual
event and is considered the most important activity that we hold. It is a time where we celebrate
the success of our Alumni in successfully passing the CPA Board Exam and achieving one of
their greatest dreams, to become a Certified Public Accountant. It is a time of rejoice and to
show our thanks, deep gratitude and appreciation for all their efforts. Truly, the CPA Board
Exam was no easy feat but they conquered it and came out victorious in the end. Now, it is only
just to welcome them back in our institution and give them a proper celebration.

The event formally started at 1:30 PM with a Eucharistic Celebration. Each CPA Alumni
was assigned different tasks in the mass which was led by Fr. George Vargas. The mass was held
because we want to give thanks for all the blessings God has continuously given us every day,
especially for the passing of our CPA Alumni in the Board Exam. After the mass ended, the
CPAs were made to wait in the chapel for a short amount of time so that the BSA students could
prepare for their grand entrance in the Hermana Fausta Hall. The CPAs were led blindfolded
inside the Hall. When they took it off, we saw the shock in each of their faces when they saw that
the entire floor was covered with a sea of black bags. When the music finally started, students
emerged under the sea of black and created a flash mob surrounding the CPAs. The grins of the
CPAs stretched for miles and we could tell that they were really happy with our surprise. After
that, we cleaned up our mess, set up the hall as fast as we could and prepared ourselves for the
event. The program started off with an opening prayer followed by the singing of the Philippine
National Anthem and the College Hymn. Mr. Sherwin Mark de Oro, BSA coordinator, gave a
brief opening remark on the event and after that, we once again surprised the CPAs by bringing
an annual tradition of the Testimonial Party back to life: a play portraying the lives of the CPAs
back when they were still students. This was done every time the CPAs get the chance to talk.
First comes out is Sir Nap Lusterio portrayed by his son, who is also taking the BSA course.
After that, the CPAs were introduced and finally, the CPAs got to share their experiences back
when they were still students and also shared some things that helped them in passing the BSA
course. Each speaker faced a ton of trials when they were still students and each has their own
different story to tell. We could see the current BSA students listening attentively, especially the
lower years. Their speeches were truly inspirational and at times, tear-jerking, but all were quite
memorable in their own ways. They were all just ordinary students struggling to keep up with
their course and sharing the same dream. But here they are now, finally living the dream. I could
tell that they really appreciated their moment of spotlight. And each and every one of them truly
deserved it. After their speeches, this gigantic Rubik’s cube with their faces on it was signed by
the CPAs. This is also the part where we explained the theme of the event, Transcend: It’s not
getting easier, you’re just getting better. It is said that the Rubik’s cube is hard at first and quite
impossible for those who don’t take an effort in solving it. But once you mastered solving the
complex cube, you’ll see that it is easier to solve it again and again. The Rubik’s cube never
changed, it didn’t get easier. You simply just have gotten better in solving it. Like the BSA
course, each and every one of the CPAs struggled in their first years. But once they got the hang
of it, they simply got better in living every day as a BSA student. Has the course gotten easier?

Certainly not. But what did happen is that they’ve gotten better. That is the message behind our
theme. Now, after the ceremony, one final message was given by Mr. Napoleon Lusterio. It was
a message of thanks and congratulations towards the CPAs. It was also a message for the BSA
students. It is his final say for the day. Finally, the giving of tokens and certificates of recognition
is done and the event was finished with a closing prayer. The day was another unforgettable
memory to us all and we will always treasure it in our hearts as the BSA students write their own
story to tell when their time finally arrives to grab the mic and take the stage.
