INSPECTION PERFORMED BY : PROJECT QA MANAGER ROB MARSHALL

1. DESCRIPTION

DELAY IN CONCRETE SETTING TIME & SURFACE CRACKS

On 20th and 22nd July, the site construction team pouring concrete for APT-180 and 187 had an
issue where the concrete was taking longer than usual to set causing finishing works to be delayed.
Also, the top of the concrete was drying forming a crust and small cracks were visible. Using
concrete from the batch plant was immediately halted on 22nd and a different supplier of ready-mix
concrete was used for further pours.

Batch plant discovered a small leak in the retarder dispenser, which added a larger dose than
usual, causing the concrete to delay the setting time. This has now been rectified.

Approved materials were being used and samples taken for gradation testing. A test batch was
mixed and poured at the batch plant and checked every hour. The concrete was deemed
acceptable for use.
