1.0 PURPOSE
The purpose of this method statement is to describe the method for plastering scope to be
executed at NUPPL-Ghatampur under GA2 package. Based on work specifications and
drawings, this method statement shall standardize the execution / construction sequence
for Sand-Cement plastering job for various buildings / structures.

2.0 SCOPE:
This method statement shall cover plastering work in MPH#1, MPH#2, MPH#3,
CCR1&2, CCR#3, Service Building, CPU Reg. Building and similar structures specified
and directed by GE from time to time.

This procedure covers all the activities of Internal & External Plastering work in
accordance with specification requirements and safety measures are being implemented
during execution phase.

3.0 RESPONSIBILITY:
The responsibilities of the team members are given below:

3.1 Project Manager- To organize & manage all resources and field and activities to
achieve an efficient and effective job completion.
3.2 Q/A Manager- To ensure preparation of all the work methods are as required by the
contract and corresponding inspection & test plans and formats. Also, to conduct
required surveillance audits and periodical internal quality audits.
3.3 Q/C Manager- To supervise and manage the material acceptance, handling, storage,
material testing and frequency, casual and ensuring conformity with specification
regularity standards and inspection test plans.
3.4 Safety & Environmental Manager- To carry out HSE inspection of work area, work
method, Men, Machine& Materials, P&M and other tools and tackles.
3.5 Q/C Engineer- To conduct regular, surveillance verify in-process inspection by site
engineer and test on the materials and workmanship in accordance with contract
requirement & ITP.
3.6 Section in-charge- To ensure this activity is in accordance with work method
requirements regularity standard and shall complete in timely manner.
3.7 Site in-charge- To ensure all structures are built in accordance with the approved
GFC drawings.
3.8 Site Engineer- Ensure the construction activity as per GFC drawings, approved
work procedure, correct quality & safety.
3.9 Supervisor –Front line supervision of the working labour and to ensure strict
conformance to methods, quality & safety.

4.0 REFERENCES:

5.0 MATERIALS, SCAFOLDING & TOOLS:
5.1 Material:
a) Construction Water:
Water used for brickwork should be clean and free from injurious amount of
deleterious materials. Potable water shall be used for work.
Sand:
Sand should be used as per clause 5.1 table 1 of IS 1542
Cement:
OPC - 43Gr
5.2 Scaffolding:
Scaffolding shall be as per project safety requirement and should be strong to
withstand all dead, live and impact loads which are likely to come on them.
Scaffolding shall be provided to allow easy approach to every part of the work.
5.3 Builder Hoist:
For transfer of materials to various floors, builder hoist shall be installed at selected
location accessible at floors.
5.4 Mechanical Mixer for Mortar Mixing:
Mixer shall be used for mixing of mortar for plastering operation. 10 % extra
Cement to be added for manual mixing
5.5 Other Tools
Measuring boxes, Trowels & Hand tools, Spirit Level, Water Level, Plumb bob,
scaffolding platform, Chipping hammer or scrabble, line dory, mason square, 3m long
Aluminum Straight Edge, Wooden float, Sand screen mesh, etc.

Note: 1 box with volumetric capacity equals to the 1 bag of cement to be provided
at site to maintain the mix ratio cement mortar as required and the week No. of
Cement bag Used at site to Be mentioned in the check list on regular basis.

6.0 CONSTRUCTION PROCEDURE:


6.1Preparation for plastering work:
Following Points shall be observed before starting of plastering Work.
a) Study the Architectural and relevant Mechanical / Electrical drawings in details
before commencement of work. with respect to sizes, level & Opening in wall.
b) Curing arrangement shall be made in advance.
c) Sand Shall be screened and stocked properly before commencement of mixing
d) Cement Shall be stacked on raised platform free of dampness
e) The concrete surfaces shall be hacked and roughened
f) Chicken mesh shall be fixed on meeting joints.

7.0 Plastering Work Construction Procedure:


Plastering work scope can be sub-divided in following types
a) 6MM thick Ceiling Plaster
b) 12MM Plaster on smooth face of internal Wall
c) External Plaster – Sand Face / Rough Cast 20MM thick in 2 coats

7.1 Readiness:
a) Ensure the adequacy of materials for the job to be executed.
b) Check RFC drawing for plastering requirement.
c) Before commencement of work mock-up of typical plaster to be applied shall be
prepared and get it approved from Client.

7.2 Preparation:
a) Cleanliness- The loose layer of dust on masonry shall be removed either by
watering or by brushing as required.
b) A freshly cast concrete surface is often covered by laitance and this shall be
removed. A concrete surface may also often be contaminated with oil & grease
shall be thoroughly by the soap water and brush.
c) Top layer of Brick work shall be embedded with 10-20mm aggregate with mortar of 1:4
d) Any unwanted projections protruded out of masonry / concrete surfaces shall be chiselled
out.
e) Electrical conduit works and ensures curing for repaired electrical chasing works.
f) Adequacy of Screened sand shall be ensured and min available for day consumption.
g) The surface shall be soaked thoroughly before commencement of day work.
h) To ensure the line, level and plumb of finished surface, day before the commencement
of actual plastering work, level marks shall be established on brick masonry wall face in
each corner and intermediate marks with in the lengths of straight edge and get it
approved from EIC/ representative before commencement of job.
i) Thickness of plaster shall be in accordance to the specifications.
j) The entire concrete surface shall be hacked.
k) 150 wide GI chicken mesh shall be installed with help of nail on Masonry-RCC joint.

l) Once the preparation is completed and approved by EIC Representative, plastering work
can be commenced.

7.3 Application of Plaster:


Mortar shall be prepared in specified proportion of a quantity which can be consumed
Preferably in half an hour.
a) Ceiling Plaster: Apply cement slurry over hacked and water-soaked ceiling surface.
Apply cement-sand mortar in specified proportion and finish uniformly smooth free of
undulations. (thickness 6mm & mortar mix 1:3)
b) 12MM thick Single Coat Plaster: Before commencement of work, walls shall be
thoroughly soaked. Plaster shall be started from top and progress downward till
completion up to specified level / up to floor. The plaster shall be finished smooth and
free of undulations.

c) 20MM thick External Double Coat Plaster:


Shall be applied in two coats. Base coat shall be of 12mm thickness in CM 1:3. Surface
shall be roughened with wire brush to receive final coat. Top coat shall be 8MM thick in
1:2 proportion. The top surface finish shall be in accordance with specification either sand
faced or rough cast.
d) Area shall be cleaned, and debris shall be removed daily before commencement of
work.
e) For internal plaster Mortar mix ratio 1:3.
f) Plaster having thickness more than 15mm shall be applied in two coats.
g) The under coat or base coat should be left for enough time to dry and shrink
before applying 2nd or finishing coat of plaster.
h) Vertical edges of the pillars, door jambs etc. shall be chamfered or rounded off.
All corners must be finish to true angles or rounded off or as per drawing.
i) Internal surface of all water retaining structures shall have 20 mm thick plaster
(1:3) admixture with approved quality water proofing compound. 10 mm thick
plaster (1:3) to be provided below roof slab of water retaining structure.
j) Fillets at junction of roof and vertical walls shall be provided with cast-in-situ cement
concrete (1:1.5:3) nominal mix followed by 12 mm thick 1:4 cement sand plaster.

7.4 Cleaning & Handing Over:


Upon completion of plaster area shall be thoroughly cleaned and handed over to other
team for flooring and other activities.

8.0 QA QC Requirement:
a) Sand Source shall be approved well in advance and only approved Sand shall be
use.
b) Sand shall be tested periodically as per approved FQP.
c) Checklist shall be used for plaster work and signed by all concern.
d) Curing arrangement shall be made well in advance and curing shall be done
diligently.

9.0 SAFETY MEASURES WHILE DOING BRICK WORK


a. Shifting of material
 Ensure proper access.
 Working platform shall have proper ingress & egress.

b. PPE 
 Ensure Mandatory and work specific PPE’s Rubber hand gloves and Safety Shoes.
 Mortar should be prepared on GI Tray
c. Supervision
i. Ensure proper supervision and pre job briefing (TBT) to be conducted every day.
ii. Safe working platform shall not be overloaded
iii. Work Permit to be taken by KE Site Engineer/Supervisor.
iv. Ensure proper illumination.

d) Housekeeping
a) Daily site surveillance shall be done by Site Engineer to ensure proper housekeeping
throughout the work at site.
b) Proper access and egress will be ensured by means of safe scaffolding for working at
height. Scaffolding tag system will be followed.
c) Approaches and exits shall be clearly defined by barricades, direction and caution
signage.
d) Daily site surveillance shall be done by Site Engineer to ensure proper
housekeeping throughout the work at site. Safety Clearance to be obtained prior to
commencement of works
