1.0 OBJECTIVE

This Method Statement acts as a general guideline for carrying out the all brickwork and
plastering in a safe manner and acceptable method, in order to meet the requirements of
the project as well as to achieve required standards with regards to materials, workmanship
and final product. The execution works and quality control shall be following not limited to the
material specifications.

2.0 SCOPE OF WORK

2.1 This method statement describes all the necessary construction activities for
brickwork and plastering finishes work at Capri Hotel Project.

2.2 All work shall be carried out in according to the construction drawings, project
and material specification & standards.

4.0 WORK METHODOLOGY

4.1 BRICKWORKS

4.1.1 General

Based on submission CBSB/CAPRI/MFSS/ARCHI/18/002, the bricks’ dimension


shall be 215mm(L) x 100mm (W) x 65mm (H). All bricks shall be sound, hard,
thoroughly well burnt, and rectangular and proper size reasonably free from
cracks and damage to edges and corners and free pebbles and expensive
particles of lime.

4.1.2 Handling

All material for brickworks shall be handled and storage on site in such a manner
as to avoid damage or contamination.

4.1.3 Tools and Materials


i. Construction material.
Clay brick, exmet, sand, Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) clean water.
ii. Construction Tools and Equipment.
Scaffolding, brick cutter, trowel, spirit level, guiding tread, hammer, hand
drill and etc.

4.1.4 Construction Method


i. Ensure that the working environment is safe and bricklayer is wearing
PPE.
ii. Make sure that the guiding tread or line is visible.
iii. Lay a layer of damp proof sheet at the bottom of the first layer of the
brick.
iv. On top of the damp proof sheet spread a layer of mortar. The mortar
shall be mix by hand or mixer and the composition is according to
requirement specified in the construction drawing or contract
specification. Mortar mixes for brick joints shall be bathed by volume
and composed of 1 part of Portland cement to 3 parts of sand. The
thickness of mortar joints shall not exceed 15mm.
v. Clay brick then shall be lay according to the construction drawing
position.
vi. At any time during the work, all debris shall be clean especially the
excess mortar to avoid it from harden on the floor surface.
vii. Upon completion of the brick wall, leave it to dry and bonded before
proceed with the plastering work.

4.2 PLASTERING WORKS

4.2.1 Prepare the plaster by adding plaster powder approx. 10 litres of clean
water per 40 kg bag or as per the manufacturer’s recommendation.
4.2.2 An electronic mixer should be used to stir the mixture.
4.2.3 After mixing, allow the mixture to stand for ten (10) minutes for additives to
dissolve and mix again then the plaster is ready to be used.

4.2.4 The surface to receive the plaster shall be free from dust, loose particles,
grease and traces of foreign materials.
4.2.5 Dampen dry absorbent surfaces before application of the plaster.
4.2.6 Apply the plaster manually with steel trowel or spatula.
4.2.7 When applying several layers, the layer underneath must be dry before
spreading the sub-sequent layer.
4.2.8 Rejected surface shall be hacked off completely and re-plastered.

5.0 HEALTH AND SAFETY

5.1 All personnel are required to use the personal protective equipment (i.e.
helmet, safety boots, safety glass, hand gloves) and if necessary, shall use
other PPE according to his work.

5.2 Prior to commencing any operation, toolbox meeting shall be conducted by


task supervisor to discuss the Risk Assessment and plan to work. Attendance
Sheet will be signed by concerned personnel involved to the job.

5.3 Checklist shall be accomplished by operator prior to work.

5.4 The working area within the exclusion zone shall be barricaded and proper
signage shall be in place.

5.5 Only trained personnel shall be provided and will wear identification marking.

5.6 All works shall be done adhering to the Method Statement and Risk Assessment.

5.7 Control measures shall be fully implemented by all at all times supervised by
main contractor.

6.0 RECORDS

The forms below shall be used throughout the whole work process via SnagR, to ensure
the required quality can be achieved.
