3. Learners are to submit assignment only in MsWord (.docx) format unless specified otherwise.
Please refrain from converting text / phrases into picture format such as .gif / .jpeg / print screen
/ etc.

4. Download the language version of the assignment template concerned from the myVLE for
preparation and submission of your assignment. Your assignment should be typed using 12 point
Times New Roman font and 1.5 line spacing.

5. Your assignment should be between 4500 to 5000 words excluding references. The number of
words should be shown at the end of your assignment. Do not copy the assignment question and
instructions to your answer.

6. Submission of assignment:

 Face-to-face Class Student:

You MUST submit a softcopy of your assignment online through myVLE and a hardcopy to
your facilitator.

 Online student:
You MUST submit a softcopy of your assignment via myVLE and another softcopy to the
facilitator via e-mail.

7. You can submit your assignment ONCE only in a SINGLE file.

8. Your assignment must be submitted starting from 23 November 2018 until 25 November 2018.
Submission after 25 November 2018 will NOT be accepted.

9. Your assignment should be prepared individually. You should not copy another person’s
assignment. You should also not plagiarise another person’s work as your own.

10. Please ensure that you keep the RECEIPT issued upon submisson of your assignment as proof of
submission. Your assignment is considered as NOT submitted if you fail to produce the

ASSIGNMENT QUESTION

PART 1

PURPOSE:

The assignment will be used to demonstrate the student’s ability to interpret the various aspects of
occupational health. It will be used to evaluate the student knowledge and understanding of the
theories and techniques discussed in the module and their practical application in various type of
industries.

REQUIREMENT:

One of the palm oil plantations has been visited by the Department of Occupational Safety and
Health (DOSH) following increase in the reporting of workers with pesticide poisoning. Discuss on
the possible factors in the workplace that contribute to the situation. Your discussion must include
the following:

a. Palm oil plantation work environment;

b. Symptoms of acute and chronic pesticides poisoning;
c. Toxicity of pesticides;
d. First Aid for Pesticide Poisoning

PART 2

PURPOSE:

The students will be able to demonstrate their understanding on the importance of occupational
health in the workplace and its contribution towards employee health and safety in the workplace.

REQUIREMENT:

Based on Part 1, the management was informed by DOSH to take appropriate measures to prevent
the problem from recurring. As Safety and Health Manager of the company, you are asked by Group
Management to prepare a comprehensive proposal on action to be taken to manage effectively the
issues. Your proposal may include the following:

 Laws and regulations;

 Medical surveillance activities;
 Safety precautions with pesticides; and
 Personal protection for applicator and worker.
