CARYAIRE WHISPER-AIR FAN SYSTEM

(in technical collaboration with M & I, Canada)

A new approach to
an old air moving technology.

A unique and
comprehensive solution
SPACE EFFICIENT ENERGY EFFICIENT
with unmatched performance.
Increases premium rentable space. Reduces operating costs.

EXTREMELY QUIET ECONOMICAL

Reduces sound levels and vibration in the Reduces construction and installed
occupied space without incorporating costs for air handlers, increases
silencers into the system rentable space.

The WHISPER-AIRTM is a custom designed heating, ventilating, air conditioning system that provides superior
performance when compared to other such systems in the market. A centrifugal fan wheel with airfoil design blades is
used as the primary air mover. What makes WHISPER-AIRTM distinctive is its integration of noise absorption and flow
control within the inlet and outlet of the fan. The fan noise is treated right at the source before it discharges into the air
handling unit. As a result, the radiated noise as well as the airborne noise at unit intake and discharge are very low.
Extensive mathematical modeling was used in the development of aerodynamically designed inlet and outlet
components to the fan in order to provide better acoustical and energy efficient performance.

An economical and effective volume control mechanism, VAV-TROLTM, can be incorporated into the design replacing
the inlet vane controls, expensive inverter drives or other disc/cone mechanisms that are generally used in the industry
for VAV systems with centrifugal and plenum fans. WHISPER-AIRTM is suitable for new applications, or retrofits where
high performance levels are critical, such as hospitals, laboratories, clean rooms, arenas, pharmaceutical plants,
schools and commercial office buildings.

CARYAIRETM in technical collaboration with M&I has the engineering and design expertise to meet your most
challenging requirements. WHISPER-AIRTM is available as either indoor or outdoor installations, and can be built in
either draw-through or blow-through configuration. Incorporating M&I WHISPER-AIRTM at the design stage of the
project can provide substantial savings in building construction costs. Further savings are offered after installation due
to increased rentable space and reduced operating costs. All units are designed with serviceability in mind with proper
access to all system components, facilitating, easy maintenance. It can be applied to new projects or retrofitting existing
equipment.

ADVANTAGES OF VAV-TROL™
VERSUS OTHER VOLUME CONTROL DEVICES

The VAV-TROL™ System offers major benefits over other systems using disk/cone mechanisms
available in the market, which in turn offer benefits over other volume control mechanisms such as
inlet guide vanes and VFD's:

! As the airflow requirement is reduced, incoming air is always directed to the back part of the
wheel which is more efficient As a result, fan efficiency is maintained at all airflows.
! There are no obstructions in the airflow path entering the fan, such as bearings, actuators or
linkages, and a smooth airflow is maintained resulting in quieter and more efficient operation.
! No complex mechanism is needed and a smaller actuator is required to operate the
VAV-TROL™ system making it more cost efficient and reliable.

GUIDE SPECIFICATIONS

Unit Base : Unit base shall be constructed of mild structural steel or formed channel. The base cross members shall be sized
to keep the structural integrity of the base frame during rigging and handling. The base shall be cleaned and primed with anti
rust coating after fabrication in factory. The frame shall have properly located lifting lugs, which are an integral part of the
channel facilitating ease of rigging and ensuring that the unit frame deflection do not exceed 25mm for 5 mtr. span.

Unit Housing : The unit housing shall be constructed of minimum 1.2mm galvanized steel panels with 275 gm zinc coating or
1.2mm pre painted galvanized sheet. The panels are to be jointed together with self tapping screws with proper sealing between
each panel to prevent water and air leakage. The inner liner (skin) shall be of 1mm perforated sheet metal for all sections
except cooling coil and humidification section. For these sections solid 1mm galvanized steel sheet having 275 gm zinc coating
will be used. The housing panel deflection will be limited to 1/200 TH of the span dimensions when under positive or negative
pressure.

The steel panel shall be fastened to the unit base using self tapping screws installed around the perimeter. The screw spacing
shall be 150mm approx.

For each outdoor units a slopped roof shall be provided having slope on opposite side of the access doors. Each access door
shall be provided with a weather awning.

Housing Insulation : The walls and roofs of the units shall be insulated with minimum 75 mm thick resin bonded glass wool
insulation of 48 kg. per cu.mtr. density. The insulation shall be covered with duct liner for sections having perforated inner skin.
The insulation shall meet NFPA-90A smoke and flame spread requirements.

Unit Flooring : The unit floor shall be constructed of 2.5-3mm thick checker plate. Underneath the unit floor 1.2mm thick
galvanized steel sheet liner with insulation behind shall be provided.

Access Door : Heavy duty hinged access door shall be wide enough to allow easy access for service / maintenance. The door
and frame shall be of minimum 1.2mm galvanized steel with stainless steel piano hinges and minimum of 2 ventlok handles.
The door shall be provided with proper gaskets to provide air tightness. Access door shall be provided for all access plenums,
fan sections and filter sections.

Fan Assembly : The fan shall be plenum/plug type having airfoil profile. The fan shall be directly mounted on motor shaft. The
fan wheel shall be statically and dynamically balanced to ensure vibration free operations. The frame work of the fan will be
constructed of heavy structural steel and tubes, continuously welded and painted after providing anti rust treatment. The inlet of
the fan shall be fixed with an aero acoustically design inlet flow concentrator to ensure uniform flow distribution across the coil.

Coil : Heat Transfer Coil shall be made of 12mm copper tube and Aluminium fins firmly bonded together. Air velocity across the
coil shall not exceed 150 meters per minute. Each coil shall be factory tested at 21 kg. per sqm. Air pressure under water. Tube
shall be hydraulically / mechanically expanded for minimum thermal contact resistance with fins. Fin spacing shall be 11 to 13
fins per inch. Water velocity in coil shall not exceed 1.8m/sec.

Coil section shall be provided with suitable drain pan constructed of 1.2mm SS sheet with necessary slope to facilitate faster
removal of condensate. Necessary outlet from drain pan shall be provided.

Filters : Filters shall be provided as listed in BOQ giving adequate space for maintenance and providing access door in the
housing. The frame work will ensure air tight fixing of filters.

Unit performance Data : The manufacturer shall provide sound data for the unit at inlet and outlet with respect to fan sound
spectrum.
