Happy Spring Mamas!
I am writing this to you as I am looking out my window to
another March snow storm. It looks beautiful outside, and I
enjoyed the winter, and even had fun taping my trees this
year and made some maple syrup.
Pictured here is my daughter tapping the trees and the syrup
we made. I love making a list of things I want to do every
season and crossing them off when I do them. No more
saying I want to do that and never do it... No better time
than now.
With spring right around the corner, time for a new list that
includes several waterfall hikes in the area and a trip some-
where new. What about you? Whats on your "want to do
list" this spring? Hopefully we have given you some great
ideas in this issue for you to try.
Time for egg hunts, hiking, booking summer camps and
planning some warm weather fun. We have all you need in
this issue. Our Camp Guide is packed with local summer
camps and has something for everyone, including a wonder-
ful farm in Bucks County and a advertiser of Mama's Lil
Guide coming up on 10 years—Camp Curiosity, who also is
gracing our cover. Be sure to check out all they have to offer
on a beautiful country setting with Horses, swimming,
archery, fishing, music and so much more!
We are also working with Lehigh Valley Zoo, and will be
offering a special giveaway of tix to this great little gem of a
zoo, so be sure to check out our facebook page daily for tix
to this and many more places to enjoy this spring and
summer.
Please post your fun things on our facebook page and as
always post a pic of you or your kids with the new spring
guide for your chance to win Crayola Experience or Lehigh
Valley Zoo Tix.

Managing The FEAR Factor when going to the Dentist
Visiting the dentist can be overwhelming (even for adults) - one of the ways to
combat the fear is to have your child seen by a pediatric dentist. The one -on-

Is blue light bad for kids? What you need to know…

spectrum The American Academy of Pediatrics recently warned about the negative
effects of digital device use among children, including increased risk of
disrupted or delayed sleep and adverse effect on school performance.
Parents are catching on that blue light might be something to worry
Dr. Melissa Richard about, yet many parents don’t know what blue light is, let alone how to
protect their children.
521 W. Butler Ave. Blue light is part of the visible spectrum of light. It has a very short
Chalfont, PA 18914 wavelength; therefore it produces a greater amount of energy than other
colors of the visible spectrum. Electronic devices emit a high concentra-
267-875-EYES (3937) tion of blue light so they remain visible under bright conditions.
www.spectrumvision.com Scientific evidence shows that exposure to blue light may suppress the
production of melatonin, a hormone that regulates sleep and wakeful-
ness. Studies specifically done on children found a strong connection
between digital device use around bedtime and reduced quality and
quantity of sleep and impaired alertness the next day. In addition,
extended use of these devices has also been shown to cause symptoms of
dry eyes, blurred vision, and headaches.
Many parents impose a digital curfew on their kids, making sure they
have 1-2 hours of screen-free time before bed. This allows the body time
to increase production of melatonin. For kids who do their homework on
a computer at night, newer blue light-blocking glasses filter out the
high-energy wavelengths. Dimming the brightness of the monitor or using
a blue light filter in the device can be helpful but is not as effective as the
glasses.
