paths in the Area. My favorite one is right in Upper Black Eddy. You may have taken
the kids to see Ringing Rocks, but have you hiked the trail around the park and seen the
beautiful waterfall? You can also hike down into the fall and find a nice big rock to sit
on and have a nice peacful lunch! This is such a special location and has great calming

Managing The FEAR Factor when going to the Dentist
Visiting the dentist can be overwhelming (even for adults) - one of the ways to
combat the fear is to have your child seen by a pediatric dentist. The one -on-

spectrum The American Academy of Pediatrics recently warned about the negative
effects of digital device use among children, including increased risk of
disrupted or delayed sleep and adverse effect on school performance.
Parents are catching on that blue light might be something to worry
Dr. Melissa Richard about, yet many parents don’t know what blue light is, let alone how to
protect their children.
521 W. Butler Ave. Blue light is part of the visible spectrum of light. It has a very short
Chalfont, PA 18914 wavelength; therefore it produces a greater amount of energy than other
colors of the visible spectrum. Electronic devices emit a high concentra-
267-875-EYES (3937) tion of blue light so they remain visible under bright conditions.
www.spectrumvision.com Scientific evidence shows that exposure to blue light may suppress the
production of melatonin, a hormone that regulates sleep and wakeful-
ness. Studies specifically done on children found a strong connection
between digital device use around bedtime and reduced quality and
quantity of sleep and impaired alertness the next day. In addition,
extended use of these devices has also been shown to cause symptoms of
dry eyes, blurred vision, and headaches.
Many parents impose a digital curfew on their kids, making sure they
have 1-2 hours of screen-free time before bed. This allows the body time
to increase production of melatonin. For kids who do their homework on
a computer at night, newer blue light-blocking glasses filter out the
high-energy wavelengths. Dimming the brightness of the monitor or using
a blue light filter in the device can be helpful but is not as effective as the
glasses.
