OPERATION PROCEDURE

During Winter (December and January) spraying roads will be ceased from 4:00 am through 10:00 am, where spraying will be
restarted after being authorized by the General Foreman and/or whom is in charge of the pit at that moment (in case of snow or
freezing conditions out of Winter Season, same criteria of cease spraying roads will apply).

3.2 When the water truck runs out of water, it will look for the nearest place to top up water to avoid long periods of time without
spraying roads within or outside the mine.
3.3 Once having the tank toped up, travel to the area where the truck has been assigned to. Try to optimize the travel times, while
respecting the vehicle preferences, as well as the predefined speed limit according to the current procedure (don’t overtake a
truck and/or auxiliary equipment without previous authorization of the operators).
In case of needed and according to the road conditions, undertake spraying to keep them in good moist conditions. This could
be done manually or by using the automatic system.
3.4 If there is a lot of dust on the roads (ramps, roads and entrances), an intermittently heavy spraying should be done (4 sprays).
3.5 When having humid roads, a light spraying will be done with 1 spray. This is in order to prevent vehicles sliding on that area.
3.6 Entrances and curves should not be sprayed. Spraying will be done when doing road maintenance on these areas or by a
detailed explanation from the Supervisor.
3.7 To undertake spraying on the dumps, you will need to wait until the trucks finish dumping in order to spray the area with no
interruptions and 15 meters away of the berm.
At dumps and specifically traffic roads only spray the width of the traffic (35 mts) to define the Roads and not waste water
by spraying the whole area.
8.14 Spraying on ramps will be done as explained below:
8.14.1 On the left lane (when going down hill), the water truck operator should leave a 3 meters dry strip either at the center,
berm or slope side of the road depending on the previous spraying path, ie, the dry strip side will alternate on every
pass. The number of sprays to be used should be defined according to the dust conditions on the road and keeping in
mind the previous spot.

Dry Strip Dry Strip

8.15 Regardless of the area to spray, it should be done intermittently, according to distance programmed (30 m wet and 20 dry).
8.16 In case of rain, the water trucks will go to where the Supervision allocates them. Spraying will not be allowed under this
conditions.
8.17 Once having this area sprayed, by no reason over spraying should be done, since the conditions for the traffic of vehicles on
that area will be adverse.
8.18 Be careful on not spraying rocks because these could hide and the operators will not be able to see them, this with the intent
of not cutting nor impacting other equipment.
8.19 On night shift, spraying will be done as following:
8.20 After 11:00 pm, one tank will be to spray the floor and the next tank will be to spray the muck, this strategy will done until
10:00 am.
The Supervisor can request the Operators to change strategy according to the existing conditions at the moment.
8.21 The type of material to be sprayed should be considered, since there are some cases where it becomes slippery. For this case,
the width of the area being sprayed should be reduced.

Page 17
930E-4 WATER TRUCK CODE:
MP-PTN-09
OPERATION PROCEDURE

8.21 Control measures when spraying muck at a floor level.

8.21.1 The supervisor will notify the water truck operator over the radio to go to the area of allocation and start spraying the
muck.
8.21.2 When the operator arrives to the area of allocation he must notify his supervisor over the radio so the supervisor can
coordinate both operators (shovel and water truck) about which side they will start spraying.
8.21.3 The shovel should single side load while the water truck be spraying on the opposite side, keeping in mind both
operators to communicate with each other.
8.21.4 When finishing spraying one side, they should continue with the other side too, not before communicating this with
the shovel operator, and after having his authorisation, to be careful with the surroundings, Haul Trucks traffic and
Auxiliary Equipment in order to get to other side of the shovel and start spraying. Once they start spraying,
communication with the shovel operator should prevail.
8.21.5 After finishing spraying both sides, the operator is enforced to notify the shovel operator and supervisor through the
radio so he can leave the area.
8.21.6 While the water truck be spraying one of the sides of the shovel it should not get closer to the shovel swing range since
it will keep loading on the side available. The shovel’s radius swing distance is 50 meters all the way around.
8.21.7 Two wáter trucks should never be working on the same area since this would cause a spatial constraint condition and
in case of material displacement or when doing manoeuvres, it could get hit by material and/or equipment collision.

Page 18

OPERATION PROCEDURE

8.22 Control measures when spraying muck on top of the muck.

8.22.1 The supervisor will give directions to the water truck operator over the radio so this one could get close to the area of
allocation to start spraying.
8.22.2 The water truck operator should consider the following recommendations when getting to the area.
8.22.3 A width access of 10 meters with their respective berms on both sides.
8.22.4 Enough width so the water truck can do the backing manoeuvre when spraying.
8.22.5 A reference berm should exist before the muck and it should be 1.5m height.
8.22.6 The distance between berm and muck shouldn’t be less than 15m.
8.22.7 The water truck operator will always be aware of his/her surroundings and 2 way communication radio on the Mine
Operation Channel.

8.22.8 Before the water truck start spraying, the water truck operator must notify the shovel operator and supervisor.

Page 19
930E-4 WATER TRUCK CODE:
MP-PTN-09
OPERATION PROCEDURE
8.22.9 Over the broken material, it should support itself with the water cannon of the truck.

8.22.10 When finishing the activity, the water truck operator will notify the shovel operator and supervisor in order to leave
the area safely and paying attention to the surroundings.
8.22.11 The water truck operator must always be paying attention to the radio and surroundings to react with quickness in
case of an unsafe condition.
8.22.12 It is important that every person working at Mine Operations to know this procedure with the purpose of minimizing
the likelihood of damaging individuals, environment or other equipment.

8.5 In case of Medical Assistance (If it’s a severe emergency, make use of the Peñasquito Mine emergency procedure).

8.6.1 In case of a malfunction of the equipment:

 Stop de equipment,
 Turn emergency lights on,
 Notify through the radio,
 If the operator has to leave the equipment to use a different one, he/she should coordinate with the supervisor to
implement safety cones.
8.6.2 If the truck presents a diesel engine failure:
 Put the Parking brake on.
 Turn the steering wheel to the berm or slope.
 Remove the service brake.
8.22.13 Don’t authorize the Lock Out power shut down until the equipment be properly secured to not move. When the water
truck stops working going uphill on the ramp, the front wheels should be turned always left.

 Structural failure related to the Garzas area (stairs, platform, etc.).
 Fire and explosion of tyres.

8.22.15.4 Activities and Development

Fire Notification:

The mine general foreman or supervisor in duty:

 Should notify the exact place and type of fire to the water truck operator, this way he/she will save valuable seconds in order
to take the correct actions needed when he/she arrives to the area in a timely manner.
 Provides instructions to the other equipment to ease free access to the water truck. When arriving to the spot, the water truck
operator, shouldn’t leave the equipment in haste, he/she has to thoroughly assess the situation: place the water truck in a
safe area, protect the truck cabin from fire, remember that when an equipment catches fire the tyres could get compromised
which could burst and explode.
 Before starting any action, the water truck operator must wait for the general foreman/supervisor in duty to arrive, whom will
coordinate, authorize and supervise the whole activity on the spot.
 Do not act by own initiative, follow the instructions provided by the general foreman or supervisor in charge of the emergency.

Assess the type of fire:

Fire can be classified in four different types:

Class A: Ordinary fuels or fibrous materials (wood, paper, fabric, rubber y certain plastics).

Class B: Flammable or combustible liquids (gasoline, kerosene, paint, additives y propane).

Class C: Energized electrical equipment (household appliance, circuit breakers, fuse boxes and power tools).

Class D: Certain flammable metals (magnesium, titanium, potassium y sodium)

Page 23
930E-4 WATER TRUCK CODE:

OPERATION PROCEDURE
WARNING: Water trucks can only support class A fires.
Minimum distance to fight a fire:

 The water truck operator, when arriving to the area he/she will fight the fire with a minimum distance of 30 meters downwind
side to use the cannon.

 In case of having an equipment on fire, the area and equipment should be isolated and with cones to delimitate, to a one
hundred (100) meters distance.

When fighting fire:

Aim the cannon in such way that the water be directed to the base of the fire.

Cannon

Page 24
930E-4 WATER TRUCK CODE:
MP-PTN-09
OPERATION PROCEDURE

When fighting fire on mining equipment:

In case of fighting a haul truck on fire, verify from the distance if the tyres are flat, if yes, you can go ahead and try to extinguish
the fire without putting the water truck operator in danger. In case that you find that one of the tyres are not flat or with signs of
fire, you should follow as shown below.

When fighting a tyre on fire of a mining equipment:

The water truck operator will come close to the tyre on fire, protecting the cabin in all moment (it will get closer on the opposite
side of the cabin).

Depending on the nature of the fire, it is feasible to aim the stream of water directly with the cannon, considering to stay out of
the range of danger when using the cannon.

WARNING: UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES THE WATER TRUCK OPERATOR WILL START ANY MANEUVRE
UNTIL RECEIVING INSTRUCTIONS AND UTHORIZATION FROM THE MINE OPERATIONS GENERAL FOREMAN
OR SUPERVISOR THAT IS IN CHARGE OF THE EMERGENCY.

WARNING: BARE IN MIND THAT A TYRE ON FIRE COULD BURST ON ANY MOMENT.

Page 25

OPERATION PROCEDURE

SUPPORT ON AREAS OUTSIDE MINE OPERATIONS

Any need of support for any threat and/or fire, this must be requested to the mine general foreman and/or mine developments
whom will perform a risk analysis of the situation with the intent of coordinate and authorize the activity, which has to be
supervised directly by him/her on spot.

8.6.3 In case of Fire

 Stop the equipment
 Turn on emergency lights
 Trigger the fire suppression system, either automatic or manual.
 Notify the supervisor through the radio
8.6.4 In case of contact with power lines
 Stop the equipment
 DO NOT leave the cabin
 Turn emergency lights on
 Notify through radio
 Await for instructions from the specialists
 In case you need to leave the equipment, never get a foot on the ground when being in contact with the truck
 As a control measure the truck has a chain of metal, installed in the rear part thereof, which works as a ground.

8.7. Recommendations:

8.7.1 If you have to stop behind of another equipment, keep a minimum distance of 25 mts, and communicate with the other
operator so he can be acknowledged.
8.7.2 When approaching the loading area reduce speed to 10 km/h.
8.7.3 When the shovel doesn’t have a distance guidance, the exact location to stop will be instructed by the shovel operator
honking the horn once. If the shovel operator needs you to relocate, he will direct you by honking the horn twice.
8.7.4 If your truck is having trouble to leave the loading área, don’t try to take it out, you have to notify your Supervisor.

Page 26
