A man had two daughters who looked so different from one


another. Clara was so pretty. She had many friends. Clara was so
plain looking that she kept to herself most of the time.
One day, as they were getting ready for school, the pretty
girl peered into the mirror beside her gentle sister. The latter
cried out to their father that the action was done to show off her
sister’s beauty in contrast to her lack of looks.
The father, instead of taking slides, advised them. I want
both of you to look into that mirror everyday. You, who are favored
of nature, remind yourself never to dishonor the beauty of your
face by negligence of your actions. And you who lack beauty, do not
mind this lack- for you have the attractiveness of your beautiful
character.

We were on the last week of our grand vacation. For the very first
time my husband Ricky and I travelled with our three kids. We took our
lunch at fast food eatery and my eleven-year-old daughter set aside
her favorite sandwich for merienda, keeping a tight watch over it.
Apparently she noticed that her sisters wanted to eat too. But then
she saw an old beggar half naked and dirty. Her heart moved with pity.
She gave her favorite sandwich to the old man who watched to her.
The joy in her heart overflowed. She felt good that she was
able to share her favorite sandwich with a needy person.

Selection 4 Onions make us cry. Yet the spice our appetites up. Beef stew without
onions is like bread without butter. Onions are frequently used in the
preparation of soups, noodles, fried rice, and roast beef among others.
This aromatic herb is typical of the allium group of plants. It is
strongly flavored and has a sharp odor. This is due to the pungent oil
that contains sulfur. But onions not only satisfy our stomachs. They
also possess medical uses. They can stimulate bite production, lower
blood sugar levels, cure hypertension, speed the healing of gunshot
wounds and cure scorpion bites.

One of the animals that help people most is a dog.
In some countries, dogs pull wagons the way our horses do.

Policemen use them to look for missing people. Soldiers use
them to carry letters and medicines.
On farms, dogs care for the sheep. They keep them
together in the fields. At night,, they take the sheep
home. Dogs help blind people, too. Different dogs do
different kinds of work. Some are good at one kind. Some
are good at another.
