Essay 1 - Breathing

A Clinical Practice Experience In Room B1 RSAL Surabaya

Every semester, my campus holds clinical practice. At that time, i did not know
that in the second semester there would be clinical practice. And i really enjoyed the
days at the campus. But at the beginning of 2017 my class implemented caping day,
and at that time was given announcement. That, in May my class would do clinical
practice at RSAL Surabaya on the topic of clinical practice for basic human needs. My
friend and i were very surprised to hear that announcement.

My group is placed in room B1, and room B1 is a room for internal disease.
There are many patients diagnosed with diabetes mellitus, hypertension, anemia, ckd,
etc. Before practicing the clinic in room B1, my group orientated to the room. In the
room my group met Mrs. Damayanti as the head nurse. Mrs. Damayanti introduced her
members who worked in room b1, then she took us around the room b1. Then Mrs.
Damayanti gave us a case and divided the shift schedule for one month.

On my first day doing clinical practice, i got an afternoon shift. I came to the
room at 13: 30, and then the morning shift friend told me about the activities carried
out in room B1, the activities ranging from observing vital signs, suctioning, giving
oxygen, taking blood, taking urine samples, injecting, etc. After my friend came home,
i and my three other friends immediately took part in the activity. I immediately
followed a review by a senior nurse. Then i was told to replace the infuse. Than i did a
case study of my patient who was diagnosed with diabetus mellitus. When reviewing
the patient's medical history, my patient said that he had a history of asthma. Then i
observed vital signs and then i did a review contract for the next day.

The next day i got the morning shift. I came to the room at 6:30 a.m., then i
took a review given by the nurse. then i took blood samples and sent them to the
laboratory. After that there was a patient from room 5 complaining of shortness of
breath even though the patient had already used an oxygen mask. Then the senior nurse
told me to do nebulation. I invite my friends to do nebulation in these patients, so that
these patients feel comfortable. After nebulation for 15 minutes, the patient said that
the patient had felt comfortable. Then i removed the nebulizer and put the oxygen mask
back on the patient, then i said to the patient, "If feel short of breath and uncomfortable,
mrs can press the red button next to the bed. Later there will be nurses who come to
help”. Then the patient agreed and finally the patient fell asleep again because he felt
comfortable.

That was my first experience doing a clinical practice in room B1 RSAL

Surabaya, where i got a lot of experience and a lot of knowledge gained when doing
clinical practice. I was very impressed with my practical experience in room B1 RSAL
Surabaya.
