Task 3 – Designing Language Arts Activities

In group of three, design one creative activity each for teaching poetry, prose and drama to
young learners in a level 2 (Year 4 – Year 6) class. Allocate of time (30 minutes activities).
Your activities should be based on the learning outcomes of content standard. Mention and
give examples of the teaching materials that you might want to use for your teaching. You
should give and write the name of each of the activities and clearly explain the
strategies/techniques to carry them out. Then compile the three activities together to be
submitted.

Prose

Name of Activity : Words Portrait


Content Standard : 4.2 By the end of the 6year primary schooling pupils will be able to
express personal response to literary texts.
Learning Outcomes : 4.2.1 Able to respond to literary texts:
(a) characters
(b) place and time
(c) values

Procedures : 1. Teacher gives each student a copy of short story


2. Pupils read the text silently while teacher write down prompt words
on board.
3. Divide pupils in groups of four.
4. Pupils discuss and decide which of the prompt words are most or
least appropriate for the character.
5. For each word they must find words or lines in the text to support
their decision.
6. In a discussion with the whole class run through the list of prompt
words and ask the students to express their opinions.
7. Mark each prompt word with a tick if the word is appropriate, with
an x if it is not and with a question mark if it is only partly appropriate
