Single-room worldwide cultural gathering at our school.

What would happen if all countries on the planet were able to fit in one single room? This question
can only be answered in a theoretical way, but a practical approximation happened yesterday at
the High School Building. The annual Culture Day was celebrated with the participation of every
High School student from our school. In this fair, students from different countries plus their
families and friends had the opportunity to present a bit of what makes up the cultural definition
of the country they were born at. Participants at this Cultural Day Fair presented their native
country traditions, customs and cultural practices.

The presentation of the traditions around the globe was very solid and diverse, and one of the
most complete one happened at Mexico´s stand. Here, students were able to share a taste of
what makes up the tradition that is so representative of that unique country. An example of this
was the simulation that took place in the central garden, in which the day before the fair, Mexicans
decorated a whole section of the garden in order to make it look like “Día de Muertos”. There
was “cempasúchitl”, the traditional flowers, and the altar honoring Chespirito, who is a famous
character back in Mexico.

Another aspect exposed on the fair was the specific cultural practices from each country. In this
case, one of the most impactful examples was from the Brazil stand, were they had themselves
disguised as the annual Rio de Janeiro Carnival. This was different from every other stand because
of the colors that made up the incredible outfits the participants were using while presenting other
aspects of their country. A girl named Hannah told us that the Carnival is what she thinks that
represents the culture from her country to the rest of the world.

At last, the country of Spain had a very clear representation of customs, including the importance
of bread when eating, or the closing of every business after lunchtime, this last one because that
time is given in order to take a nap.

The success of the Cultural Day Fair was given thanks to the interested participation of all students
and the people who made this event possible. High School, has once again demonstrated that
there are no limits when it comes to do things the way they should be done. (398 words)
