Chapter I

INTRODUCTION

This chapter discusses the background of the study, rationale of the

study, objectives of the study, scope and limitation, significance of the

study, the research methodology, and the definition of terms.

1.1 Background of the Study

Taking a picture is one of the best ways to capture a moment.

Regardless of the occasion, people love to take pictures to remember a

fun-filled day. This is especially the case if there is a photo booth at the

event. Photo booths provide your event with an experience that is unlike

taking pictures with a smartphone or with a photographer. They will provide

your event with more than just photos, a photo booth will provide your

event with an experience.

1.2 Rationale of the Study

The researcher decided to study the feasibility of putting up a Dream

view Photo Booth. The proposed business desires to make it customer

happy or smile, through providing affordable and quality services. The

convenience and hassle free activity for the customers is the major reason

why the researcher came to point of proposing the business. It aims to

promote and encourage business minded individuals to have innovative

ideas in engaging in the business.

1.3 Objectives of the Study

The study aims to provide reliable information about the aspects of

Market, Technical, Management and Organization, Financial and the

Socio-Economic of the proposed Dream view Photo Booth.

Market Feasibility

The researcher determined its market feasibility related to

description of the industry, current market analysis, competition,

anticipated future market potential, potential buyers and sources of

revenues and revenue projections.

Technical Feasibility

The researcher determined its technical feasibility related to

the development of new products, technologies, and processes

traded services, the improvement/redesign or development of

products services or processes, the viability of extending or

expanding company facilities to meet increased operational capacity

needs, and investigating the potential or application of new

technologies or licensing in new technologies.

Management and Organizational Feasibility

The researcher identified its management and organizational

feasibility related to the consideration in forming the organization,

the form of ownership and organizational chart.

Financial Feasibility

The researcher determined the financial feasibility related to

the total estimated cost of the project, financing of the project in

terms of its capital structure, debt equity ratio and promoter's share

of total cost, existing investment by the promoter in any other

business, and projected cash flow and profitability.

Socio Economic Feasibility

The researcher determined its socio economic feasibility relate

to the positive economic benefits to the organization that the

proposed system will provide, quantification and identification of all

the benefits expected and assessment typically involves a cost/

benefits analysis.

1.4 Scope and Limitation

The scope of the study is limited on determining the feasibility of

putting up a Photo Booth business in SM Gensan. The primary source of

data to be used for analyzing different aspects of the business only

includes existing photo booth in General Santos City. Surveys are limited

to the residents of General Santos City.

1.5 Significance of the Study

The study does not only focus to its objectives. It also aims to impart

relevant knowledge to different individuals which is useful to them.

To the Businessmen, in which, they can acquire knowledge how to

manage business. It also helps to challenge them to promote service

providing entity into practical yet providing quality services.

To the Business Owners, Managers and Operators, in which it

can give them more information in handling the business to its success. It

also helps them to think more ideas on how to maintain their customers

despite of the competition in the market.

To the Local Government, in which, they are able to know the

proper tax to be imposed in this kind of business.

To the Students of Business Course, in which, this study will help

them as their guide in making the feasibility study.

To the General Public, this study may help them to know what

services they can acquire as a customer from the proposed subject.

And lastly, to the Researchers, this study able them to expose in to

the real world of business, which can be a preparation for their professions

chosen.

1.6 Research Methodology

This section discusses the research design of the feasibility study,

respondents, locale of the study, data gathering tool and data gathering

procedure.

1.6.1 Research Design

This section of the study shows the strategies and steps

formulated by the researcher in conducting the study. Figure 1 on

the next page shows the research design formulated by the

researcher in conducting the study of the proposed business.

Dream view Photo Booth determined the respondents needed

and used survey questionnaires for data gathering, also conducted

an interview to the respondents identified using interview guide who

has idea and knowledge that will be needed for the study, and

further research for additional information was also conducted to

achieve the objectives pertaining to the Market, Technical,

Management and Organization, Financial and Socio-Economic

Aspects.

Research Design

Figure 1 showed the steps conducted in this study. First was

to set up the objectives in every aspect of the study. This included

the marketing, technical, management and organization, financial

and socio-economic aspects. Research method used comprised the

data gathering tools, such as interview guide, survey questionnaires,

related articles and internet and the data gathering procedures

which included identifying the target market, conducting surveys and

interviews, researching from related articles and internet and

summarizing all the data gathered. The data and information

gathered were from the respondents of this study, the people of

General Santos City.

1.6.2 Respondents of the Study

Interviews and surveys were conducted for this study. Data to

be used for the business management were gathered through

conducting interviews to the legally registered Photo Booth Shops in

General Santos City. The residents of General Santos City were also

randomly sampled for the relevant data for the study. One individual

represents one household, furthermore, government agencies like

Department of Trade and Industry, City Mayors Office, and Business

Permits and Licenses Divisions were interviewed in gathering

information about the number of currently existing Photo Booth

shops, City Assessor’s Office for the location of proposed business,

and National Statistics Office were interviewed by the researcher in

gathering data about the population of General Santos City.

1.6.3 Data Gathering Tools

A survey questionnaire was used to gather information for this

study. The survey questionnaires were given via internet through

Google and in person in several places in General Santos City.

Through this guide, the researcher was able to acquire information

on the type of services the customers are willing to avail and the

frequency of it matched with its corresponding amount. In general,

he gathered information about the marketing aspect, technical

aspect, management and organization aspect, and the financial

aspect. The researcher also used some articles about Photo Booth

from internet as well as relevant studies both published and

unpublished as references.

1.6.4 Locale of the Study

The study was conducted at General Santos City. There are

many areas for potential investment in this area. General Santos

City is located in a very strategic position and a fast growing

economy. Many commercial building were built and soon it will be a

very competitive industrial place. General Santos City is the

Philippines' south most dynamic growth area - a gateway to

opportunity! It lies in the heart of the Asian-Pacific Region where half

1.6.5 Data Gathering Procedure

In gathering the data, the researcher determined first the

target market of the said business. Next a survey question was

drafted and validated. After approval, the survey questionnaire was

used to gather information to a percentage of the total population

through internet and in personal contact. And then an interview with

the possible competitors of the proposed business was conducted.

After gathering the data needed, the researcher summarized all the

information and used them to make for the completion of the study.

1.7 Definition of Terms

This part provides the operational definition of some of the terms

used in the study.

Clothes. Something to wear on, like dress, shirts, pants and

underwear’s. It also includes textiles, like curtains, table cloth, beddings,

bed sheets and etc.

Washing Machine. A machine that is used to wash clothes

easier than manual. It has a spinner inside that spins the clothes to remove

water.

Laundry Dryer. A machine that exacts or absorbs water of the

laundry to dry it.

Game Arcade. A game machine typically found in public places

like malls, restaurants and amusement arcades, and is usually coin

operated.
