PROJECT PROPOSAL

MECHANICALLY IMPROVEMENT OF GALLEY 1 IN BOEING 727

1.0 OVERVIEW
1.1 INTRODUCTION

The project is to analyse the mechanical characteristics of the Galley 1 in Boeing 727
in UniKL MIAT Hangar 1. It is actually a refurbishment project that I will improve and change
some part of the galley to make it looks like a new one. As the aircraft become older, surely
there have been so many defects that need to be repaired and modified such as rust, loose
attachment and so on. So the purpose of this project that I will carried out is to make it
functional and also as an aided teaching for students of UniKL MIAT. I am sure this kind of
project will give good output and beneficial knowledge specifically in Aircraft Cabin Interior
System probably to me and also to students of UniKL MIAT.

1.2 AIM AND OBJECTIVES

The objectives of this project are:
1. To refurbish the mechanical part on Galley 1 in Boeing 727.
2. To analyse the characteristic on the Galley Compartment in Mechanical Terminology.

1.3 SCOPE AND LIMITATION

This project focus on mechanical section of the galley 1 in Boeing 727. It will be refurbished
and improved by using a common maintenance techniques such as inspection, removal,
cleaning and installation. This is to ensure the galley will be looking as a new galley
compartment as the current one is too old and have many defect such as rust.

2.0 LITERATURE REVIEW

Galley complexes are located throughout the passenger compartments. Galleys are used for
the storage, heating and the preparation of food. Drinks are also prepared and kitchen rubbish
stored. Galleys may be fitted at the forward area, back of the aircraft or, on larger aircraft at
centre locations. Galley equipment can include storage locations for trolleys and carts, a
1
means of chilling cold cupboards, beverage makers, ice makers, trash compactor, interphone
system and many more. A galley complex typically has a variety of inserts to accommodate
various food and beverage preparation requirements.

3.0 METHODOLOGY
The data pertaining to the mechanical part in galley analysis will be based on Aircraft
Maintenance Manual of Boeing 727 that is equipped by UniKL MIAT Hangar 1. As has been
discussed with my supervisor and hangar staff, the first thing that I need to do is inspection.
In this part, inspection must be made on any part of mechanical section such as defects,
cracks, serviceable or non-servicable and etc. Also, dimension will be taken based on the
actual size of each galley compartment like coffee maker, ice drawer and cart stowage. Then
I will move to cleaning session that I will use a recommended cleaning agent that is specially
used for aircraft. After done cleaning, I will move on to removal and installation session. The
removal/installation procedures which follow provide for removal and installation of the
galley complete with its decorative panels. Care should be taken, during installation and
removal of the galley, to avoid damaging the plastic liquid barrier which covers the floor
panels in the galley area.
