New Rules and Regulations for EE FYP Starting

July 2005.
All Submissions

• Must be made to FYP Technician (Ms Siti Hawa, 22-01-03)


and date-stamped.
• Students MAY NOT submit directly to supervisors.
• Supervisors shall not accept submissions without date
stamps.

Logbooks
• No Late Submissions.
• Late submission = No submission ? ZERO marks
• If FOUR consecutive non-submissions, warning (letter/
email/ phonecall/ IRC) will be issued TWICE with 48 hours
to respond for each.
• If no responses to both warnings – student considered FAIL
and withdrawn from FYP.

Preliminary and Progress Reports


• No Late Submissions.
• Late submission = No submission ? ZERO marks
• If student submits directly to supervisor (i.e. not recorded by
technician) ? ZERO marks (even if supervisor gives grade
to the report)

Interim Report (FYP 1)


• Penalty of 50% for late submission within one week after
deadline of DRAFT.
• Reminders/warnings will be issued for late submissions.
• Submission of draft not accepted after one week ? No
presentation.
• Final interim report not accepted if draft not submitted
beforehand ? No presentation.

Final Dissertation (FYP 2)


• Draft must be submitted and corrected by supervisor.
• Supervisor must endorse soft cover report.
• Soft cover reports which are not endorsed will not be
accepted.
• Penalty of 50% for late submission of soft cover report. If
report submitted after one week of deadline (in which case,
the reports are sent off to External Examiners), postage of
report to External Examiner done by student. Postage must
be done at least two weeks before Oral Presentations. The
supervisor will keep the proof of postage by student.

Extensions
• Extensions may be given for medical reasons. MC must be
produced along with the overdue submission.
• The overdue submission must be sent in the day after the MC
is issued.
• In the case of hospitalization, the FYP committee must be
informed (by phone/email) immediately, so that warnings
would not be issued.
• No extensions given for busy period, limited access to
computing/printing facilities, loss of data etc.

FYP Seminar Series & Briefings


• Every Monday, 2pm – 4pm at LR 11 (Block N)
• Attendance is compulsory for all FYP 1 students and will be
recorded.
• FYP 2 students are encouraged to attend.
• Tentatively, there will be 7 lectures altogether for the whole
semester. Each lecture would last between 1 to 2 hours.
• Proposed Topics:
o PCB Design.
o Techniques to Generate Ideas.
o Research Methodology.
o Project Management.
o Technical Writing for Engineers.
o Presentation Skills.
o Introduction to Entrepreneurship.
• 1 lecture in Week 2 or 3 (PCB Design by Mr. Norzaihar).

Intellectual Property of Projects


• “The University would be the owner for all findings, designs,
patents, and other intellectual property rights” – Final Year
Project Guidelines for Supervisors and Students, UTP-ACA-
PROG-FYP-01.
• Students MUST NOT sign any contractual agreement with
any company or industrial collaborator without notifying and
getting approval from the EE FYP Committee.
