Shabbir Ahmed Osmani; Cell: +8801751-232-163; Email: osmani@lus.ac.bd
Rationale for the inclusion of the course in the Programme:
The students will learn how to analyze structures by different methods. They will learn the determinacy and stability
4. of the structures. Determining reactions, internal loads (axial load, moment, and shear) and deformations that result
from  arbitrary  external  loadings.  Approximate  analysis  of  frames  and  building  subjected  to  lateral  and/or
gravitational forces.

8. Pre-requisite (if any): CE 211, CE 111

9. Course Learning Outcomes:

At the end of this course, students should be able to:
 CLO1: Explain the difference between determinate, indeterminate, and unstable structures and identify
whether a structure is determinate, indeterminate or unstable.
 CLO2: Understand and successfully apply the following structural analysis methods: method of joints,
method of sections, influence lines (for beam, truss, and girder beam), and portal method.
 CLO3: determine absolute maximum bending moment and shear force in beams due to moving loads.
 CLO4: find the maximum moment, shear and stresses produced in arches due to external loads, Temperature
effects and support settlements.
 CLO5: have a basic on earthquake analysis of multi-storied buildings by equivalent static method.
