ELECTRONIC SUSPENSION

Introduction-
The vehicle suspension is a dynamic system using vehicle properties and
simulating the response of the vehicle to various inputs and disturbances. The
suspension separates the chassis and the passenger seat and provides a better
stiffness for the wheels to be on the ground. The sole purpose of the suspension
is to keep the wheels on road and provide comfort to the passenger. The recent
developments give a wide range of options to select the control system, the
control system needs to be selected at the time of design. The use of electronic
suspensions which is controlled by a microprocessor has attracted a lot of
interest in recent times. In this study, PID controllers parallel to McPherson
strut-type independent suspensions are used. The major advantages of this
control method is its relative simplicity in design and the availability of well-
known standard hardware.
In the last decade, many researchers applied some linear and non-linear control
methods to vehicle models. Because of simplicity, quarter car models were most
preferred.

Procedure: -
In modern vehicles suspension used is hydraulic suspension
system, we can use electronic sensors to add or release the pressure as the fluid
does, we can control the moment of monoshock needle electrically by providing
input to the ECU by a series of programs. This enables the driver to select the
suitable stiffness required for the ride. This modification increases number of
buttons in the dashboard, making the dashboard complex.

ADVANTAGES: -
1. Provides options to driver based on his needs.
2. Increases rider’s comfort.
3. Smooth performance of suspension.
4. Varies from vehicle to vehicle.
DISADVANTAGES:
1. Costlier
2. Increase in number of buttons in dashboard.
3. Rider requires basic technical knowledge.
4. Involves new set of wiring harness.

CONCLUSION:
The pro’s and cons of using an electronic suspension is given
above and discussed with the project guide.
