Philosophy of the Arts

In the education system today, it is necessary for the arts to be incorporated into

the general education classroom due to the lack of funding in many districts throughout

the United States. It is assumed by many that the arts can only able be taught by

specialists, however I believe that the arts is easily integrated into core subjects.

There are several benefitting factors of incorporating the arts into the classroom

such as increasing motivation, concentration, confidence, and ability to work together

with others. These factors, if developed and nurtured will set students up for success in

many other academic areas. In addition to academic benefits, the arts enable us to become

better storytellers. Each person has a story to tell and the arts enable us to tell our story in

unique ways.

In order to foster creativity in my own classroom, I believe that students should be

given the opportunity to explore and experiment with the arts. In doing so, the students

will use past knowledge and acquired skills in a new situation to create something or

solve problems. Providing the students with access to materials and opportunities to

explore the arts is the most effective way art will be included in my classroom. I firmly

believe that the only limitation on creativity is how we view our own ability. When

students are exploring the arts, I will be sure to praise and promote student creativity in

order to eliminate any limitations that students believe they may have.

The arts are a necessary component in each classroom throughout the world. I

strongly believe that I will be an advocate for integrating arts into the classroom. There

are cognitive and social benefits that students will carry with them throughout their

educational career and the rest of their life.
