The organization we’re working on is Sinai University
1. What is productivity and how it can be measured
-Productivity is the efficiency with which firms, organisations, industry, and the
economy converts inputs (labour, capital, and raw materials) into output.
Productivity grows when output grows faster than inputs, which makes the
existing inputs more productively efficient. Productivity does not reflect how
much we value the outputs — it only measures how efficiently we use our
resources to produce them.

-Productivity is computed by dividing average output per period by the total costs
incurred or resources (capital, energy, material, personnel) consumed in that period.
Productivity is a critical determinant of cost efficiency.
-Universities or institutions of higher education are typically multi-product firms,
producing a mixture of instructional programs and research as well as entertainment,
medical care and community services
A) For example: Productivity could be:
 The number of students graduating every year
 Number of new students applying every year
Productivity is computed by dividing average Number of students per period by the
total costs of resources (capital, energy, material, personnel) consumed in that
period.
B) The factors affecting negatively on the productivity Can be:
 The location of the university (North Sinai).
 The lack of good advertising.
 The low number of doctors and Demonstrators which lead them to work
outside their profession and lead to putting extra amount of work load on them
which causes the decrease in the efficiency of their work.
 The lack of summer training for students to prepare them for the real work
place.
 The long hours of lectures.
 The difficulty of some courses on students.
 Using old methods for teaching.
C) To improve productivity a few measures should be taken such as:
 Increase the advertisement for the university by using virous advertising
methods.
 Hire new professors and teachers’ assistants to reduce the work load on the
old staff so that courses would be taught efficiently.
 Provide training and study cases to keep the students up to date with the
changes around them.
 Reduce the hours of lectures to be around 2 hours instead of 3.
 Divide the courses to be studied on different levels so they can be covered
and to make them easier on the students.
