LESSON PLAN IN BIOLOGY

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to;
a.) state the laws of heredity
b.) differentiate the three laws of heredity
c.) understand the three laws of heredity

A. Content Standard:
The learners demonstrate an understanding of the Mendelian laws of heredity.

B. Performance Standard:
The learners shall be able to distinguish the laws of heredity.

C. Learning Competency:
Differentiate the three laws of heredity

II. Content/Subject Matter

Topic: Laws of Heredity
Skills to be developed: Defining, Understand, Differentiate
Values to be learned: Cooperation, Participation
Teaching Strategy: Group work
III. Learning Resources
1.) BIOLOGY textbook (pp 256-263)
2.) Internet (for additional information)
3.) Materials: Laptop with LCD Monitor
IV. Learning Procedure

Preparatory Activity

a prayer.”

 Greetings and Checking of Attendance “Good afternoon Sir Rowel!”

“Good afternoon class!”
Ms. ______, kindly check the attendance for me.
Thanks you.
 Classroom Management “Yes sir!”
“Class, kindly arrange your chairs properly and
pick up the pieces of dirt in your respective
areas.”

B. Engage

This morning our discussion will be about

genetics. Before that, are you familiar with “Yes sir!”
Ushers & Will I. Am Song- “OMG”

“Ok that’s good, “

In the board I post a song related to our

discussion. The title of the song “GREG
MENDEL & MEOSIS Song.” Tune: OMG by “Yes sir!”
Ushers & Will I. Am

“So are you ready to sing and have fun today?

Play the video clip:

Let us sing “Greg Mendel and Meiosis Song.”
Tune: OMG by Ushers & Will I. Am
_______________________________________
Sir, the song is all about Gregor
Okay now class, what can you say about the Mendel and his different pea
song? plants found in their garden. He
noticed why the pea plants
different physical appearances
some green and some were
yellow, the shape of the seeds has
round and wrinkled, and they have
small and tall pea plants…. He
does an experiments and
observation and then he thought
all the pea plants have diff. traits
and he discover hereditary…
…It is very important the
hereditary traits come from our
beloved parents….
“Yes, Very good!
The song tells us something about one of
important work of Gregor Mendel and that is
“HEREDITARY” and we should also thank our
parents why we have a great faces, and healthy
body because of her hereditary traits that we
acquired.

“Everybody had just sung very well, it’s now time

to proceed to our discussion about Mendelian
and Non-mendelian laws of heredity.

C. Explore

In order to divert the concept of laws of heredity

into an output, I will divide you into 3 groups.

Okay class hear my instructions.

Please form a circle for you to have
brainstorming)

Task for Groups 1 to 3

“Paste it! Explain it! And why?”

The teacher will give a picture to the Group

members.
“Okay, what you are going to do is to analyze the
picture and distinguished what specific law of
heredity is implied. Post on the board that
corresponds to your answer and explain why.”

“Am I clear now?” Yes, sir. Noted.

pictures in the board)

D. Explain
(The teacher's aim here is to enhance the
student’s ability to communicate with their fellow
classmates, expressing their ideas to one
another.)
Okay class, since that all of you are already
posted your pictures. At this point, let us have the
presentation and explanation of those outputs.
But before that let me give you the criteria in rating
your presentation. “Okay sir. We are now ready”,

Group 3

We don’t have any choice sir; indeed,

it is the law of independent
assortment. Based on the picture
traits are transmitted to offspring
independently of one another. For
such the alleles assort independently
during formation of gametes
Thank you so group 3.
Very good presentation!
Let give them a hand to them.

E. Elaborate

Okay class, those activities you’ve accomplished The laws of heredity

are what?

What are these laws? Law of dominance

Law of segregation
Law of independent assortment

What are is the meaning of Law of dominance? Law of dominance

Law of segregation? Law of independent The trait that is observed in
assortment? the offspring is the
dominant trait. The trait that
disappears in the offspring
is the recessive trait

Law of segregation
The two alleles for a trait
must separate when
gametes are formed. A
parent randomly passes
only one allele for each trait
to each offspring

Law of independent assortment

The genes for different
traits are inherited
independently of each
other.
F. Evaluate

Okay, I’ll give you a minute to prepare. Kindly

remove your notebooks and other unnecessary
things in your arm chair. Prepare ¼ sheet of
paper.

Instruction: Differentiate the three laws of

heredity.

G. Extend
Assignment:
1. What is the difference between DNA and
RNA?

2. What are the two classes of nitrogen-bases (The students will copy their
and identify the nitrogen bases are found in DNA assignment)
and RNA?
