53-08 Unknown Radius

This is an intermediate to advanced calculation project that appeared in the March 1991 issue of the Modern Ma-
chine Shop magazine (www.mmsonline.com), and is presented with permission. The objective is quite simple - to
calculate the unknown radius R from the data provided in the attached drawing.
As in many similar calculations, the ability to see what features have to be solved is often more important that the
actual ability of the programmer to find a solution. The example shows a classic use of an unknown dimension in
the drawing. A CAD/CAM generated drawing would most likely have the dimension specified.
