TITLE OF THE ACTIVITY Enhancing Workplace Performance through Stress Management
ABSTRACTION OF THE What is Stress?
SEMINAR
Stress is generally the inability to adequately cope with stressors that
may pose a threat to the individual’s daily activities. Stress is normal for
an individual to experience but should come in moderation. It will
become a problem if the individual is experiencing stress continuously or
what we call chronic stress. Some stress is considered good stress or
“eustress” and some of it brings negative emotions to an individual or
“distress”.

Chronic stress can also result to diseases such as hypertension, coronary

heart disease, stroke, anxiety disorder, peptic ulcer, or any kind of
addiction.

How to Reduce Stress?

Stressors are everywhere. Then what should we do? We COPE. How?

I – Identify what causes your stress

A – Accept who you are and the things you cannot change
M – Modify your lifestyle

S – Set limits
U – Use your time wisely
P – Practice positive thinking
E – Establish friendships/relationships
R – Relax and be mindful
APPLICATION OF Assuming that people suffer from chronic stress is one of the things that
ASSESSMENT IN THE practitioners should not tolerate in the field of psychology. It is
DISCUSSED TOPIC important for us to assess first before giving any treatment or therapy
for us to properly help these people who really suffer from chronic
stress.

There are different aspects that the speaker showed to us that we

should look for in the process of assessing the individual specifically on
stress; one is the personality of the person. She gave three (3) different
types of personality based on the results of Dr. Friedman’s Stress-
Related Personality Test. This is just one of many personality tests that
we can offer our client to provide us information about the individual
that will help us in making a clear and a valid report.

The other one is to seek help. Clearly, different personalities combat

stress differently. Thus, we must seek help if our way of coping with
stress is still healthy and helpful for us or not. Seeking help from
professionals will give us professional advices to care for our mental
health because assessment will not end in giving psychological report to
our client but will extend in helping them coping with their own
problems.
INSIGHTS We can’t avoid stress in our daily lives. Stress may be found at home,
school or workplace so we have to learn ways how to properly cope the
stressors that will test our patience, peace of mind, and sometimes,
even our faith. Thus, self-care is important to enhance our performance
in our day to day tasks and to fulfill our responsibilities in our family,
friends and clients.
APPLICATION/ There are many ways to manage our stress but the speaker gave one
INTERVENTION specific technique in handling our emotions in times of stressful events
which is the mindfulness that can help individuals- like us who have our
busy schedules to pause for a moment and reflect on things.
