Programme Overview and Aims


The Programme aims to provide advanced education in preparing civil engineering practitioners:
1. to carry out the planning of large scale infrastructure projects and the financial management of these projects;
2. to effectively carry out project management and construction management of complex infrastructure projects;
3. to utilise the knowledge of contract law and dispute resolution in infrastructure projects;
4. to utilise the knowledge in the construction of infrastructure development, bridge structures, tall buildings and
foundations;
5. to best utilise latest IT approach and facilities to manage construction process so as to achieve better accuracy and
efficiency and optimise manpower and plant resources;
6. to apply the quality management and assurance systems to construction in infrastructure projects; and
7. to carry out an individual capstone project.

Programme Structure
This is a two-year part-time programme. It consists of a total of seven modules and one capstone project. The seven
modules include five core modules and two elective modules. All modules comprise 13 lectures / tutorials, each of which
lasts three hours and are to be held once per week. The capstone project is carried out in the second year and spans over
the whole year. Students need to complete all seven modules and the capstone project within a maximum of three years.

Most classes will be held in the evening (7:00pm to 10:00pm) at the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC), 78 Tat Chee
Avenue, Kowloon Tong, Kowloon. Some practical classes under Innovative IT Applications in Construction Engineering
will be held at the College on Saturdays.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
1. Holding a recognised bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or in construction engineering management with Second Class Honours
(Division II), or equivalent qualification; and meeting one of the following English language proficiency requirements:
a) holding a degree from any institution where the medium of instruction is English; or
b) having scored Level 3 in English in Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (DSE); or
c) having attained one of the following scores:
• TOEFL: writing not lower than 550; machine test not lower than 213; online test not lower than 79
• IELTS (Academic Paper): total score not lower than 6.0; OR
2. Holding a professional membership of relevant disciplines plus substantial relevant working experience. Admission through this
route will be considered on a case-by-case basis;
3. Holding a right of abode in Hong Kong or holding a working visa.

Application Fee
A non-refundable application fee of HK$300 in the form of cheque payable to CHU HAI COLLEGE OF HIGHER EDUCATION.

Tuition Fee
To complete the programme, satisfactory completion of a total of seven modules and one capstone project is required. The tuition
fee is HK$10,500 for each module and HK$31,500 for the capstone project. The total tuition fee for completion of the programme is
HK$105,000.
