ICE summer project

The project
Project Title Jecho Warsaw Tower Repurposing

An existing structure is being refurbished and the client wishes to add an additional storey to the
structure. The initial design made allowance for future additional storeys. The student will undertake a
Description concept design for the additional floor, assess its feasibility and propose a potential solution to the client.

The work
Students will be expected to complete independent research related to the project tasks throughout the
length of the project. This will be guided by their tutor.

Students are to identify relevant material from the following:


Resources required - ICE virtual library
(software, literature, - ICE YouTube channel
websites, ICE online - Eurocodes (Arup will provide copies)
resources, other….) - Arup structural scheme guide (Arup to provide)
- Information on how to undertaken Carbon calculations (Arup to provide)

The students will undertake the following as part of the concept design:
The output - Existing foundation and structure check
(what format of the work - Structural element design for the additional storey
you will produce) - Independent stability system for the additional storey
- Proposed construction sequence sketch/narrative
- Sustainability analysis and considerations
- Sketches of the proposed scheme

Students are encouraged to challenge the brief and/or solution during the conversation with the team. Do they embed
key climate emergency drivers? Examples might include active consideration of carbon impacts during design,
choices of lower carbon materials, removal of waste from construction, upgrades to an infrastructure system to remove
everyday carbon emissions, conceive of solutions to re-use, remodel, re-cycle existing infrastruure appropriately.
Evidence of this task can take the form of a simple statement/consideration or anything above this.
