This Graph represents the questions on the pretest which students answered
incorrectly. From this data, I learned that many students knew that plants need water and
sunlight, (questions 1-2) but many did not know that they need soil/dirt (question 3). I also
learned that many students knew that a seed was a part of the plant life cycle, but did not know
about roots, stem and leaves, and the plant (questions 8-10).
From looking at the pretests and the data, I learned that many students had at least
some background knowledge about plants. This knowledge helped me create my unit plan
because I knew I what to teach so that I would not be giving too much new information, and I
knew where to start so that I wouldn’t be teaching concepts that my students already knew.
Another important piece of data I gathered from my pretest was the learning
preferences of my students. This data conveyed to me that most of my students prefer to work
with a partner. However, there are still more than 1/3 of students who prefer to work alone. I
would have predicted that the percentage for partner-work would have been higher. This is
good information to have while creating my unit plan because I will incorporate group and
partner-work, but I will also designate time for students to work individually.
The second graph, Students’ Learning Preferences 2, shows that most students prefer to
learn on the computer, by drawing, and by reading. Because of this information, I will
incorporate many books into the unit plan. I will also give students ample opportunities to
draw. Unfortunately, these students do not have easy access to computers, but I will

Post-Assessment Analysis
discovered that the average score increased by 4.15 points. On the pre-assessment, the
average score was 5.1, and on the post-assessment the average score went up to 9.25.
students’ scores decreased. Only two students (5%) scored the same on the pre-assessment
and post-assessment. This means that 95% of students increased their score. This shows me
I also measured students’ interest in science and reading. In the beginning, 85% of
students said they liked science. This number has stayed the same. Four students changed their
minds between the pre-and post assessments, but it did not change the percentage. I measured
students’ interest in reading. Five students changed from not liking reading to liking it, and two
science to liking science would go up, but otherwise, I am happy with the results I got. My goal
was for every student to learn something new, and that was mostly accomplished.
