Name or Title: BrainPOP

Type of Resource: Website

URL: https://www.brainpop.com/

Details/Description:
BrainPOP was founded in 1999 by Dr. Avraham Kadar. He created BrainPOP to explain difficult concepts to his
young patients. This website provides educational videos to help kids create, construct, and collaborate as they
explore the world through technology.

Educational Value/Uses:
BrainPOP encourages learning made visible through tools that challenge students to reflect, make connections,
and engage in deeper, curiosity-driven learning. This website covers topics such as English, Social Studies,
STEM, Arts & Music. This website covers universal topics, with localization for major world languages like
Spanish, French, and Mandarin. Along with BrainPOP, there is also a BrainPOP Jr. and BrainPOP ELL.

Content Standards:
BrainPOP is a trusted learning resource that supports core and supplemental subjects, reaching millions of
learners worldwide. There is a link within BrainPOP that takes you to BrainPOP Educators and you can search
by standards, subject, or grade. This is very convenient considering these tools are all within the website.
This page will ask you to select a state, subject, and grade level (Ohio, Science, 2nd grade). Once you submit the
following information the next screen will pop up and it will provide you with a list of standards and videos
from their site that correspond with the following information that was given on the previous page.
For this particular search, I can teach using standards 2.ESS.1 and 2.ESS.2 (there are more, but these relate to
the screenshot). Below the standards are videos that I can show relating to each of the standards. If I decided
that I want to show a video on the Water Cycle, I would simply click on the highlighted blue hyperlink “Water
Cycle”. This will then take me directly to the video.

Assessment Suggestions:
After showing a specific video, there are different options for assessment. If I were to show the video on the Water Cycle,
afterwards I will have the option for my students to take an easy quiz, hard quiz, make-a-map, or participate in creative
coding. There are also other options including, word play, games, draw about it, write about it, activity, talk about it, belly
up, and pop a joke. These all relate to the Water Cycle.
