World Scholar’s Cup - Tournament of Champions

The special culminating session of the prestigious competition, World Scholar’s Cup, the Tournament of
Champions was held at the Ivy League prestigious, ‘Yale University’ from 21st November to 24th Novem-
ber 2014.
Having been selected after the arduous rounds held at Singapore, two teams from Ambassador School
qualified; this itself was a feather in the cap since there were over 2400 students competing in the Global
Round. Out of these four students, Mohammed Salman, Ashath Inamdar, Mohammed Elan and Hannah
Ashna Jacob went to Yale to represent our school at the World Scholar’s Cup- Tournament of Champions.
The TOC was more than just another Global Round. Five hundred students from more than 25 countries
were selected after the grueling rounds of Team Debate, Scholar's Bowl, Collaborative Writing and Schol-
ar's Challenge. More importantly they had the chance to interact with and learn directly from Yale
students and faculty.
The students truly met the objective of this tournament which is to motivate students of all backgrounds to
discover new strengths and practice new skills and to inspire a global community of future scholars and
leaders.
Besides the rigorous routine of a long school day, cyclic tests and Semester exams, our students did not let
the steam slow down. This was proved and they did us proud by winning the medals. The medals tally is
as follows:

Mohammed Salman
• Individual Debate
• Individual Writing
• Team writing
• Top Scorer from School

Mohammed Elan
• Team Writing
• Honour roll for writing

Ashath Inamdar
• Team writing

Hannah Ashana Jacob

• Top Scorer from School
The students were taken to Boston to see the prestigious Ivy League Harvard University and MIT. They not
only just competed in the tournament but also saw for themselves the path to greater learning and a
great future for which they have to start working from now on. They also got an opportunity to visit UN
headquarters in New York, Empire State Building and famous wax museum of Madame Tussaud’s.
The interesting thing about World Scholar’s Cup is that it is different from the traditional academic
competitions and conferences: it is a celebration of the joy of learning, a tournament as rewarding for the
team that comes in last as the for the team that came in first, an enrichment opportunity that motivates
students not just to demonstrate their existing strengths but to discover new ones.
This wonderful experience will be cherished forever by all the participants.
