Profile on David Eggleton

Strategic Writing

David Eggleton, a man who was brought to The Salvation Army through Christ. David Eggleton is

a 72-year-old man who lives day by day helping others through his work with The Salvation

Army. He is currently the thrift store manager for the past two years at The Salvation Army in

Alamance County, North Carolina and finds inspiration in life through helping those in need.

From supporting teen programs, to camp, food banks, helping natural disaster victims, and

even helping others pay for gas, and rent, David Eggleton does all this through the words of the

Gospel. However, he lost his faith for quite some time in his life, but was brought back to it

through The Salvation Army.

David Eggleton shares, “I was brought up a Christian, but then I joined the Navy when I was 17,

and I was chasing everything except the church, I would say chasing everything except Jesus,”

When he reached his 50s he needed the spiritual uplift from the Christian faith and began doing

community service for The Salvation Army before achieving leadership positions in this

organization. He described his involvement with The Salvation Army and its effect on his life as,

“it regenerated my faith and God, it’s been a big boost to my spiritual life”

The Salvation Army’s connection with the Bible inspires David Eggleton to find rewards, and a

purpose in life through helping others. He aspires to “attend to people’s needs whether it be

spiritual or physical.” He does not discriminate against those practicing other faiths, but assists

all humans regardless of religion.

We asked him how he described the thrift store as a business, and he explained,

“The store to me is both, business is business, this is just God’s business”. David Eggleton

believes the store is motivated and run through the love of God, and that is one of the reasons

it is successful. He believes The Salvation Army is a “home of second chances” and place for

people to come together and be a community. He has personal relationships with the

employees, the families and volunteers and considers The Salvation Army as an extended family

that is filled with love.

David Eggleton has gone through ups and downs while being the store manager at The

Salvation Army thrift store because sometimes you “don’t always see the results of your work”

as he states, but he further explains that “conversations with someone or praying with

someone may produce results you can’t see”. This keeps him driven because of his positive

energy that he is putting out into this world.

Some people can come in hurting and desperate but finding something for the Salvation Army

can result in happiness for mothers, fathers, guardians and families. It is all worth it when you

see “the joy you see on those people’s faces” as David Eggleton says.

David Eggleton can be described as a warm, caring and selfless person that spends life for the

benefit others. He inspires others through his amazing character, and will keep up his good

work for the rest of his lifetime.
