PROJECT GUIDELINES
Dear Students,
This is to direct your attention towards your Project to be carried out by you during final semester. A group
of 3-4 students undertake this project either to develop new business or evaluate the real life business
environment related to managerial and organizational problems that need solutions. The rationale behind this
practical work is to
Expose you to the various operational and practical aspects of business.
Help you to apply the concepts learnt in your coursework.
Sharpen your professional skills.
Develop interviewing and report writing skills.
Enhance their managerial and leadership skills, besides their problem solving and decision making
skills.
How to go about Project Work?
Considering the importance of Project Work for BBA program, the department of Management Sciences has
drawn the following guidelines
The Project should be carried out under a Project supervisor.
Project could be one of the following types:
a) Business Project (Idea generation to Execution of business)
b) A Field Survey (Industrial Project)
c) A Comprehensive Case study on the functioning of a business unit/ organization

a) Business Project
Business project starts from the very beginning understanding of a business i.e. from business idea. To bring
that idea in executable format, business plan should be developed which ought to be specific to your business
needs and objectives. This Business Project should be completed in following manner.
Phase I: Project Planning
It should describe the business (including Idea of Business, opportunity rational, Vision, Mission &
Objectives, Location & Facilities, Business Model and Keys to Success).
Management Description (including form of Ownership & intellectual property rights, Organizational
Structure, and Management Team).
Feasibility Analysis
Environmental and Competitive Analysis
Operational Plan (including process strategy, layout & location, Inventory Management and Supply
Chain Management).
Strategic Plan (including different types of matrices such as, EFE Matrix, IFE Matrix, SWOT
Matrix, SPACE Matrix and QSPM)
Human Resource Management (including Staffing functions, training and development,
Compensation & Benefits, Performance Appraisal, retention strategies).
Marketing Plan (including Marketing Objectives, Market Needs and trend analysis, and
Segmentation, Target Market, Positioning, Market Strategies, Product & Service description, Concept
Testing, Demand Forecasting, Value Proposition, Product Mix, Branding, Pricing Strategy,
Place/Distribution Strategy, Promotional Strategy and Marketing Budget etc.).
Financial Plan (including its Assumptions, Initial Financial Needs, Breakeven Analysis, Projected
profit & Loss Statement, Projected Balance Sheet, Projected Cash Flow Statement, Notes to the
Accounts, Ratio Analysis etc.)
Risk & Measures to overcome risks (including Management Risk, Marketing Risk, Operating Risk,
and Financial Risks along with coping strategies).
Phase II: Project Execution
This phase should consist of the following contents:

b) Industry Project
An industrial project is an in-depth study of an issue or topic in any sector of business or on any issue in
management science field of study. This could be (for example) a small behavioral research project on
organizational workers, or a critical review of an operational, organizational or management issue, etc. While
projects vary in their aims, scope and design, they should be designed so as to allow you to demonstrate your
ability to apply the principles of research at a bachelors levels.
However, to write the project report following process should be followed:
Synopsis of the project should be prepared in consultation with the respective supervisor and after
approval from the panel may be sent to The Chairman, Department of Management Sciences for
notification. The synopsis should clearly state the problem analyzed, objectives of the study, scope of
the study, tools to be employed for data collection, methodology and chapter scheme of the proposed
project to be undertaken. It should cover adequate details of rationale of the study, sampling method,
data collection, statistical tools and limitations of the study. The size of the synopsis may be 5 to 7
pages.
A Written communication regarding the approval/non-approval of the project proposal will be sent to
the student concerned within two days of the Proposal presentation to the panel by the Head of
Department.
In case of non-approval of the proposal, comments / suggestions for reformulating the project will be
communicated to you by the supervisor. In such cases, the revised project synopsis should be
submitted with (i) revised project proposal and (ii) a copy of the rejected synopsis bearing the
comments of the evaluator within one week from the date student receive the intimation about non-
approval.
After, acceptance of synopsis, project report will be prepared. In reporting on the project, you should
show that you can:
Identify and define a significant issue relevant to the discipline of the degree.

Systematically collect relevant up-to-date information about the issue, either directly or from
published studies or publicly available data.
Analyze, interpret and discuss the information in accordance with standard academic and
management research practice.
Draw conclusions and make recommendations relevant to the issue that will contribute to
current knowledge and practice in management science field of study.
Write and present a report in accordance with academic standards on the selected sectors.
Formatting Guidelines
In the finished Project you have to follow the instructions given bellow:
Use standard A4 white paper.
Print on one side only. Avoid double-sided printing.
Margins: Every page of the project must be kept within margins set as follows: A minimum margin
of 1-1.5 inches (for binding purposes) on the left side of the page; 1 inch at the right side; 1 inch at
the top and bottom of the page. Any page submitted with less than the minimum margins will be
rejected.
Font type: Times New Roman
Font size: 12
Line space: 1.5
The whole project should be justified.
Pages should be numbered sequentially and be securely bound
