Functions of Management
Before knowing about functions of management we should know about management and its
importance for an institute in way of success so management is defined below.

Management

We can state management as a group of individuals which are observing, maintaining and
organizing institutes for destination of success.

Importance of Management

An institute without management could not exist because it is just like a computer without
controlling or processing unit or like a body without a brain. Managers do not only manage
organizations but also they are also acting as controlling factor which is most important for
organizations.

Types of Functions of Management

There are four main functions of management which are being used by managers to leads there
institutes on the way of success which are mentioned below.

 Planning

 Organizing

 Leading and Motivating

 Controlling

Planning

As we all knows that before doing any work we have to set our destination and goals which is
known as planning in language of business. To understand planning let’s take an example if we have
make a restaurant first we had to think which type of customers we have to attract, if we want to attract
health conscious people (which is a good trend in market) we will make such a products which are less
oily and have less fats we also have to give special concentration on cleanliness of restaurant and
workers both. If our aim is as mentioned then our aim would be to provide healthy food to people or
resembling to this.

 It is done by top managers.

Organizing

After doing planning managers go towards organizing. In this process we discuss how do task
under the guideline of vision (planning). Basically organizing is gathering of resources. There are
two types of resources which are mentioned below.

 Human Resource
 Material Resource
Example:
Let’s recall plain of healthy meal providing restaurant to convert this idea into reality we
have to do some work e.g. we have arrange a nice place and building where health conscious people
can easily and happily come not only that we also have to collect some workers which are medically
fit and we will also use health grade items in our kitchen. These all process is known as organizing.
 It is done by Middle managers.

Leading and Motivating:

After organizing, organizations are established and are on the way of their target we need to
make our team energetic. We have to either threat them or motivate them. In big and modern institutes
threating is not done will they promotes motivation which is done by following:

 Increase in salaries
 Motivated Lectures
 Competition of Environment
 Concept of bonuses
Leading and Motivating in combine term is known as directing.
 Directing in organizations is done by middle managers and by frontline manager.
Controlling

When everything in organizations are going on way there some problems can come which may be
internal or external. Internal problems are known as weaknesses and external are known as threat we
can solve weaknesses but to control threat we have change our vision and planning. It is difficult to
solve threat but not impossible.

Types of Controlling.
There are three main types of controlling which are as below:
 Feedback Controlling
 Feed Forward Controlling
 Concurrent Controlling
Feedback Controlling
In this type of controlling we learn from problem of past and make reform in present for example our
supply decrease due to absentees of workers then if we make some substitutes after problem is
generated then it is known as feedback controlling.
 It is an old way to solve problems.
Feed Forward Controlling
In this type of controlling we solve problem before it happens for example we should make
serve and experiments to observe the things which can disturb us.
 It is the most modern way of controlling.
Concurrent Controlling
In this type of controlling we solve problems as they start occurring for example if our production
shows some fluctuation then we will detect the fault and start to solve it.
 This controlling is usually used in most of organizations because it is cheap but it is
less effective.
 Controlling Factor is the most important function of management because you have to
response against stimulation in no time otherwise your organization may go towards
destruction.
 Controlling is done by frontline managers.
Above all are the functions of management which are being done by managers. From above
information we can understand about importance of manager. They are backbone on organizations
because they are doing work from vision to controlling.
