I. JOSHUA’S LIFE.

A. His hometown was Egypt and his occupation was being a slave.

B. His father was Nun and he was from the tribe of Ephraim.

C. He is first mentioned when Moses appointed him to lead a battle against the
Amalekites—Ex. 17:8-9.

D. The name “Joshua” means “The Lord is Salvation”—Num. 13:8.

E. Moses sent Joshua out as one of the 12 spies to investigate what would become the
Promised Land---Num 13:30.

F. God punished those ten spies and all of Israel—Num 14:30.

G. After Moses’ death, Joshua became the leader of Israel—Joshua 1:1-2, 5-6.

H. Joshua followed God’s strange instructions about how to capture Jericho—Joshua 6:1-5.

I. Joshua asked God to do another strange thing, stop the sun—Joshua 10:12-14.

J. Under Joshua’s capable leadership Israel captured all of the Promised Land—Joshua
10:42.

K. Joshua distributed the Promised Land to the twelve tribes of Israel—Joshua 19:49-50,

II. JOSHUA’S STRENGTHS.

A. He was a faithful aide to Moses—Joshua 1:1.

B. He was faithful to God—Joshua 24:14-15.

C. He had courage—Joshua 1:6 .

D. He was respected by those he led—Joshua 4:14.

E. He was favored by God—Joshua 21:45.

III. LESSONS FROM JOSHUA’S LIFE FOR US.



A. We must have confidence in God—Joshua 1:9.

B. We must believe and follow God’ Word—Joshua 1:7-8.

C. We must remember that God works through people—Joshua 1:5.
