2016 FIFTH YEAR SPECIFICATIONS

o FACE2FACE UPPER INTERMEDIATE SECOND EDITION U. 1 to 6 (St's & Workbook)

o OFFICIALLY DEAD

* OMIT SECTIONS:
Student's book: 5A 5C 6C
Workbook: 5A 5C 6C Reading and Writing Portfolio 5

Note :
* Student's Book Unit 1 Section 1A
This section deals with the English verb system. Students will revise the basic tenses, aspect and voice. The aim is not to teach ''tenses",
"aspect" or "voice" but to make students see the English verb system as a whole.
* Student's Book Unit 2 Section 2B
We suggest you deal with "be used to" and "get used to" before you start with this section.

Speaking: All the lessons in these books provide students with numerous speaking opportunities.
In Face2Face the Get ready... and Get it right! activities at the end of each A and B lesson are very useful. So are the Pair and Group Work
activities at the back of the book. See Teacher's book, Teaching Tips on Speaking, page 18. Give your students plenty of practice in the
use of functions. (Section D of every unit in F2F).

Listening: In F2F there is a lot of listening practice not only checking understanding of gist and asking questions about detail but also
focusing on problematic aspects of listening to English such as sentence stress, weak forms and linking.

Writing: Reading and Writing Portfolio 1,2, 4 and 6 in the workbook.

See 2016 Types of writing for Teens and Adults on our web site.

Make sure students become aware of register (formal/informal English), planning, division into paragraphs, the difference between topic
sentences and supporting statements, the use of sequencing and linking words within a paragraph and connecting different paragraphs.
We suggest you consult "Successful Writing" by Virginia Evans (Intermediate/Upper-intermediate).

Extensive Reading: We advise you to carry out the activities at the back of the book. Apart from this, you will find the
worksheet for Officially Dead at www.macmillanenglish.com/readers.
We suggest you use the audio CD to help students to further develop their listening skills.

Please help your students develop their reading skills by encouraging them to read the story and exploit it through different
activities. By no means should you give them just a summary to study by heart.

Students are expected to read the story at home, not in class

We strongly recommend the use of F2F Teacher's Books, which will guide you throughout the course. F2F TB contains useful
classroom techniques and activities,detailed teaching notes, 35 photocopiable communicative Class Activities, 12 Vocabulary Plus
photocopiable worksheets with additional lexis practice, 4 photocopiable Study Skills worksheets and 12 photocopiable Progress Tests.

Extra Practice Section: found at the back of the F2F Student’s Book, it provides plenty of exercises to revise the grammar and lexis
covered in every unit.
For further grammar practice, you may consult ‘English Grammar in Use’ by R. Murphy (Intermediate) ’Macmillan English Grammar in
Context’ by M. Vince, (Intermediate)‘Oxford Practice Grammar’, by J Eastwood (Intermediate) and ‘Recycling your English’ by Clare
