Lesson Title: I’ve lost my rucksack – Describing people

Time allowed: 50’

Concept to teach: teaching vocabulary - clothes and appearance.

Skills: speaking, reading, writing, listening

Procedures: conversation, describing images/persons, brainstorming, dialogues

Type of activities: individuals, whole class, group work.

Materials: Worksheets with vocabulary , exercises, Textbook Snapshot by Brian Abbs, Ingrid
Freebrain, Chris Barker, blackboard, images, handouts, audio-visual material

Aims:
 To introduce the new vocabulary about people’s appearance
 To motivate Ss to communicate in English
 To teach Ss methods of describing people in point of clothes and physical appearance.

Objectives:

a) Cognitive objectives :
- to present and practice ways of describing appearance
- to introduce and activate the vocabulary of describing people’s appearance
- to solve vocabulary exercises on the lesson’s topic

b) Affective objectives :
- to show interest on the topic
- to make students confident in using their skills.
- to improve Ss pronunciation and to motivate them to learn more and more words
in English
- to stimulate Ss creativity and imagination.

Activity 1. Warm-up
Procedure: - T greets the students, checks attendance and introduces the lesson’s topic

Aim: -to motivate and involve Ss by means of personalization.

Activity 2. – Introductory conversation –Speaking

Aim : - to rise Ss attention on the lesson’s topic

Procedure : - T will initiate a brainstorming on the topic “Describing people”. T will write on
the table the words related to the description of a person (hair, face, body) and some
characteristics.

Ss will be involved in the discussion and they’ll express their opinion.

Timing : 3’

Activity 3. Listening

Aim : to improve Ss pronunciation

Procedure: - they are going to hear the pronunciation of the new words

Pre-listening – Ss will receive some worksheets with words and images of Clothes and
Accessories and T will show them some images with different people and will describe the
images to the pupils.

T will write on the blackboard the new vocabulary.

Listening activity - Ss will hear the pronunciation of the new words. T will play it again if
necessary.

Post-listening – After listening the pronunciation of the words, the T will start describing the
appearance of a person in point of figure and clothes.

Timing : 10’

Activity 4. Practice
Aim : - to encourage pupils to use and recognize the meaning of the new words

Procedure : Ss will receive worksheets with vocabulary exercises and will solve them. After
solving them they will have to read each sentence.

T will correct the Ss’ mistakes and draw Ss’ attention if there are any misused words.

Interaction : S-T S-S

Timing : 15’

Activity 5. Feedback & Evaluation

Procedure : T will split the class into three groups. Each group will receive a worksheet with
people already described. Ss will read the text aloud and translate any unknown words.

After that each group will delegate a leader. The leaders will have to come in front of the class
and pick a sheet of paper which will contain on its back contrastive images of different
persons.

All the members of the groups will have to participate and to describe the images that the
leader has picked. Then the leader of the group will read aloud the descriptions.

In the end the group that has described correctly all the images or at least more images than
the others groups will be the winner.

T will appreciate Ss’ activity and involvement.

Activity 6. Homework

Procedure : For homework Ss will have to write a brief description of his/her deskmate. The
description has to be of no more than 70 words.
