DYNE DAWN S. DELIMA
President, GESS

Being a President of the Geodetic Engineering Students Society (GESS)

organization isn’t about handing out orders and bossing people around. It is about
communicating well with my subordinates and members to work together and get things
done. Proper before and after meetings for the events that are about to unfold were
conducted to ensure everyone’s ideas and suggestions are indeed considered. Also, a
general assembly for all the members of the organization took place to hear everyone’s
voice for the upcoming events.

At first I was hesitant at the same time was afraid to lead the organization because
the fear of not meeting everyone’s expectations. Where to start? What am supposed to
do? Those questions keep ringing inside my head after the election. But through constant
guidance of the mentors and support of the friends around me I was able to push through
the responsibility that was vested upon me. It wasn’t easy, really, to implement and
conduct such events since there are a lot of things to consider. My time management and
patience is well tested. Socializing with possible fund sources is a big factor in this case.
There are unforeseen circumstances that challenged our determination for an immediate
response with a lesser amount of time. However, with everyone’s willingness and
cooperation, we were able to cope up with things.

As a President I have to plan ahead of time and oversee the process as well as
studying at the same time. Well I was blessed to have a very trustworthy officers that
makes the workload easier and I’m thankful for that. I need to communicate so that every
decision I make would be based on the majority’s opinion. There are a lot of things I’ve
learned that helped me grow into a better version of myself. One of the things I’ve learned
while serving the organization is that challenges should not bring you down, but it lifts you
up.

JHOELITA J. MARINAY
Internal Vice President, GESS

I have served the organization for four years now, and in that four years, I have
learned a lot. Before elected as the Internal Vice President, I have been a treasurer, an
assistant and a secretary. My co-officers are counting on me in terms of the paper works
because I have been doing the paper works for the past years and that pressures me but
at the same time it makes me happy. Serving the organization helped me improve
managing my time and the things that I have to do. Being an officer also helped me
improve the way I socialize around people.

I am so glad I have been part of the people who kept the organization going.
Designing for the events has never been my piece and yet become what I always do
every time there is an event. Serving the organization woke the artist inside of me.

Although I have experience those before becoming the IVP, I made mistakes and
sometimes wrong decisions for the organization but I always make up for them whenever
I’ve got the chance. There will always be some officers that would not cooperate
sometimes, testing our patience and understanding. The unforeseen problems unfolding
before us cannot be prevented but we did our best in getting through those. I have
become someone I thought was very hard to be, a team player, who always asks
everyone’s opinion and do the best for the good of everyone and the organization.

External Vice President, GESS

Responsibilities. That is just one thing but it takes a lot of courage to take it. Being
elected as an EVP (External Vice-President) in the Geodetic Engineering Students’
Society (GESS) was not as exciting as I expected it to be. I had a hard time adjusting in
terms of managing my time with my studies, family, friends, and my responsibilities but
despite that I am thankful that I got to experience this. At first, I didn’t exactly know what
I have I gotten myself into but as time goes by and with the help of my co officers and the
people around me, I got accustomed with the things I have to do.

I have to admit, I made a lot of mistakes and sometimes neglected my duties as

an External Vice President. I am always thankful to my co-officers. Without them, I would
have failed to do my job although I did not really do it that perfectly. They were always
there to support and remind me of the things I have neglected to do. I learned that we
always make mistakes in our decisions but with these mistakes, we gain not failures but
experience and these experiences will serve as my stepping stone on how to be a better
individual, as well as a successful engineer in the near future. So we have to accept
mistakes even if it will lead us to judgment.

I have also learned to lengthen my patience and understanding. But the most
important thing I have learned is attitude. People with pleasant personality always have
an edge to those who don’t because attitude defines who you are and how you handle
every situation you face, you know how valuable people and things are so you won’t mess
up. In short, attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference. Little things really do
matter.

BASSAM M. DIAMAODEN
Secretary, GESS

Being an officer in a college organization is more challenging than being an officer in an

elementary or a high school organization. For someone who has been constantly elected in a
position in a set of classroom officers or in a campus student government during my middle school
and high school, I have expected the same challenges, but are more rigorous, that I was bound to
face when I got elected as the secretary of GESS. And for that, I knew I had to prepare myself to
deal with the challenges that will eventually emerge.

Being an officer means I am throwing myself in a pit of hardships where my patience to

deal with those hardships will surely be tested. Success and failure in carrying out my duties as a
secretary is definitely unascertained but with guidance from Above and with hardwork, I knew I
could do better than failing. And whether I succeed or not, I know that I will never be the same
person as I was before, after acquiring experiences from being a secretary.

MAE JANE S. VILLARBA
Assistant Secretary, GESS

Being an officer in an organization, with lesser number of members compared to

other organizations, was a huge thing for me. Even being just an officer alone, regardless
of how small/huge an organization, is such a big deal for me because whenever I hear it,
I always think of words like responsible, role model and authority and these words are no
joke at all. Imagine being in a group of smart, talented and experienced individuals sharing
ideas to make the organization better and there’s me who haven’t experienced this in my
whole life that’s why I feel so pressured and at the same time honored.

But even if it seems like the pressure is really getting unto me, I can still see and
feel the brighter side of being an officer. I like that I have made new friends and at least I
got bond with students on other year level before I graduate. I like that it boosts my
confidence because I’m kind of shy and timid and it helped me in a way that I can even
coordinate with other officers by myself. I like that it’s challenging just like in times where
my tasks as an officer and responsibilities in academics need to be done at the same
time, it really teaches me legit time management.

REYNALDO, JR M. ALDAMAR
Treasurer, GESS

Playing the role of treasurer in any organization is not an easy task. It takes an
abundant amount of dedication, honesty and stability in dealing with substantial amount
of money and budgets.

As a student, the position of a treasurer of the Geodetic Engineering Students’

Society tests the capability of handling figures and cash, of having an orderly mind and
logical way of thinking and being able to have a keen eye for detail. Moreover, the real
challenge comes every time there’s an event that requires the participation of the
organization.

Being the treasurer, I need to adhere to the organization’s budget, to provide

financial information to support every decision. The fact that the money that I have to
keep an eye on isn’t mine doesn’t necessarily lift some weight. Even so, it helped me
sharpen my skills in monetary handling and decision making. It was indeed a great
opportunity to play the role of treasurer of GESS for this semester.

Assistant Treasurer, GESS

Being an officer is never that easy. It requires a lot of effort and commitment to be
able to really perform your role. It imposes a lot bigger responsibility than you could ever
imagine. Being an assistant to the treasurer is somewhat a challenging role since money
is involved. It is a thing which should be taken care of and be used for the betterment of
everybody. In the case of dealing a huge amount of money, it will never be easy, and so
i did my part as an assistant treasurer and extend any help i could to the treasurer. This
way I can lessen the burden imposed to the treasurer and at the same time lend a helping
hand in spending money wisely and efficiently. Being an officer is not just all the hardships
and responsibility, it also gives a lot of learning experience in many ways possible and
not to mention the enjoyable and bonding moments between the officers which make the
group even stronger.

Auditor, GESS

Being an auditor is as difficult as the role of the treasurer. We both deal with money
and expenses. But in my case as an auditor, I ensure that the financial records of our
organization are accurate and true. It is also a tiring position since it involves rigorous
analysis of our organization's operations during the entire semester and what's also tiring
is that we had many school and organizational activities, so it means more analysis to be
needed to perform. And I hope that I did my part rightfully considering that accomplishing
the objectives of our organization relies on my role as an auditor by bringing a disciplined
approach to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of risk management of the
organization's money and funds.

coordinator or spokesperson of the organization wherein my primary responsibility is to provide
information to the media or in simplest term, I serve as the tool to address the opinions and
suggestions of the organization members. Likewise, my duty is to broadcast all the activities and
events created by the organization as required. I’ve had a hard time deciding either to accept or
refuse this proposition for the reason that I don’t have enough experience of being a P.I.O and any
other positions. However, I tried to ponder it on mind and all of a sudden I kind of assumed that
I’m might fit or suitable for this position. Since the existence of social media, the distribution of
information to the public made the task easier for me.

Business Manager, GESS

Being an officer of our organization is a great privilege at the same time challenging
for me. "What to do?", "Where to go?" those were the lines that came up into my mind
when I got the position for business manager. Being a business manager is quite tiring.
We always find, search, search, find for items that we think suited and the best that we
can give to the organization. We always go for friendly costs. I myself never realized that
I can handle the position that was given to me. As an ordinary student I used to hide in
my comfort zone but when I joined and given the chance to be part of the officers in this
organization I realized that I can be better, that I can do better things to myself as well as
to other people but of course with the help of the other officers. With this opportunity given
I learned that camaraderie must always present in an organization for it to function
positively.

Being an officer of our association is an extraordinary benefit in the meantime

trying for me. "What to do?", "Where to go?" those were the lines that surfaced into my
mind when I got the situation for business director. Being a business supervisor is very
tiring. We generally discover, look, seek, find for things that we figure suited and as well
as can be expected provide for the association. We generally go for agreeable expenses.

I myself never understood that I can deal with the position that was given to me.
As a common understudy I used to cover up in my usual range of familiarity however
when I joined and allowed to be a piece of the officers in this association, I understood
that I can be better, that I can improve the situation things to myself and in addition to
other individuals obviously with the assistance of alternate officers. With this open door
given I discovered that brotherhood should constantly display in an association for it to
work decidedly.

As part of the organization, I got the opportunity to work with several individuals
that has different capabilities and abilities. I came to learn, to adjust and to have better
understanding with other’s thinking. My duty as a representative is to follow orders and
be responsible for the tasks assigned by the President and to voice out the thoughts and
opinions of my classmates about several things. At first I feel hesitant and was not really
confident that I can do it because this is my first time to be a part in the GESS officers,
but as time passes by I realized and proved that I can accomplished all of it in which I
found so fulfilling. GESS has a team that works well together that understands the
strengths and weaknesses of each member. We have become proficient at dividing up
tasks so that it will be done immediately.

Geodetic Engineering Students’ Society is an academic organization which is composed

of students taking Bachelor of Science in Geodetic Engineering. In the first semester of being part
of the officiating body of the organization, I was honored to be surrounded with well-rounded
people who aim for the betterment of the organization, the department and the students. Being a
shy person in nature, it was quite a struggle at first to represent the 4th year. It was during the
annual seminar of GESS that being one of the representatives became a challenge. We need to
make special efforts to inform the other 4th year students of the various tasks and in turn we should
be able to present, as fairly as possible, their concerns to the other officers. We need to act as a
prime official channel of communication between the other officers and the rest of the 4th year
students of GESS. Nevertheless, this honed my communication and listening skills to another
level. It was such a great opportunity to serve the GESS.

Geodetic Engineering Student Society (GESS) is where people gather to ensure

that everybody gets to play their role and be aware of their rights as students in the
institution. As an officer of the GESS, I have encountered a bunch of great people, gained
useful ideas, and experienced a whole new level of stewardship while developing
camaraderie between your troupes. These experiences have molded me into a better
individual today. Another part worthwhile being in the Paragon is that the devotion to
serve do not revolve in the school premises only. While in the organization, I have also
gained awareness regarding the current issues and problems of the society. GESS has
disseminated possible solutions in which a student may take part. Indeed, GESS can be
the voice of the youth and the best way to train potential leaders of the future generations.

Being an officer of this institution under the field of engineering is a privilege for me and
for the many. The absence of leadership is the failure of the university, so we the governing
students of the University embarks a full treatment of Sacrifices, Performance and Will. Sacrifices
in the means of time, money, and Efforts in all aspects of living. but the joy that you could not
ever imagine in doing the responsibilities has never been a bother of being a two parts survivor of
the study, serving yourself and serving others is the key to have a better life and successful means
of communicating and making a positive difference with each other. Performance that deals with
a lot of crucial differences and thinkers that builds up the team. And doors that sum up all of the
ideas that resulted into a stairs of beacon that success lies ahead. For with this builds friendship,
love and care from each other for i believe that’s what an authentic success is all about, the
relationship we have/had. Lastly, the will or the guts to make all of these things right in accordance
with what really is it in the first place. To sum it all up, being one of the privilege student of the
university is really a great and big deal that i could ever have and I, myself don't want to lose these
kind of people, memories and experiences because this is what builds me most of my self for so
many years.

An organization is not operational without its own officers. Officers lead eminence,
solidity and success to a certain organization that require a lot of roles, efforts and time
to consume. Organizations through the functions of its officers carve a great role to the
society especially in schools. Officers tend to bring up diversities, talents, skills, leisure
and unity among the members and other groups also.

Being an officer of the Geodetic Engineering Students Society club is a great

pleasure. Though, for us first years, it is not that easy since we're on the vague of
cognizing the rules and roles we should follow and employ. At first, for me it was a
nightmare because I don't like to be an officer and the thing is, I was elected so I should
accept the responsibility.

The enlightenment as an officer took me a notice of being aware on what

happening to the society, to the club and the members. The obligations really need time
and understanding to keep the harmony of each officer. Every individual belong to the
club must take part and should keep being functional for these are ways that may upbring
the club.

Furthermore, officers are not only promoting the name of the club but also
enhancing every single thing their members can do and show. We open up gates that
could upgrade each one of us. Being an officer is fun and could give a lot of learnings that
is very essential in growing. It may be strenuous but it is a role that could develop oneself
and could be a way for giving esteem to others.
