 As you plan for the start of another school year, consider the chair your
child will be using at the computer.

Most standard office chairs are not designed for anyone under five feet
tall. If your middle school aged child sits down in the family computer
chair and his feet dangle event at the lowest chair setting, you should
consider investing in a smaller-scaled chair - children’s feet should always
touch the floor. Many full-size chairs can’t be adjusted low enough for
children or shorter adults to use comfortably, which can cause postural
problems and strain on arms, legs or backs.

Whether your child is just entering elementary school or entering middle

school, proper equipment can help make things go smoothly. You may
care to contemplate this checklist of important stuff to have to at every
level. CDAHK member Dr Jen Ng DC provided pediatric chiropractic
education to the audience at the HKTDC in July.

Chiropractic Research: Chiropractic Care for Older Adults
In light of technology, extensive research has been
done on Chiropractic sciences. Recent research
has shown chiropractic care can help older adults
to maintain ability to live independently and
prevent falls.

As we age it becomes more difficulty to carry out

activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing,
dressing and cooking. This is due to the decline in
physical and cognitive functions that often occur
with aging.

Research carried by Dr Heidi Haavik DC PhD, who is a chiropractor and a neurophysiologist from New Zealand
Chiropractic College, discovered that Chiropractic care can prevent the decline to lose their ability to carry out normal
daily activates. Chiropractic cares can significantly impact several factors that influence fall risks such as

1. Your ankle joint position sense

2. Your ability to take faster steps
3. Your brains ability to process sensory information

Chiropractic care can help you maintain your ability to live independently and look after yourself!

Effectiveness of Chiropractic Care to Improve Sensorimotor Function

Associated With Falls Risk in Older People: A Randomized Controlled Trial
Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics (JMPT) April 2016

Objective
This study assessed numerous patients’ response over a
course of 12 weeks with chiropractic care. The study
examines the effectiveness of chiropractic treatment on
sensorimotor function associated with the risk of fall,
compared with no intervention, in community-dwelling
older adults living in Auckland, New Zealand.

Conclusion
The study concluded that sensorimotor function and
multisensory integration associated with the risk of fall and
the physical component of quality of life has improved in
older adults receiving chiropractic care compared with
study control. Future research is needed to investigate the
mechanisms of action that contributed to the observed
changes in this study and whether chiropractic care has
an impact on actual falls risk in older adults.

 Wearing high heels can make you feel taller, more glamorous, and
fashionable. But are these benefits worth the painful consequences?
High-heeled shoes changes your body’s center of gravity and the body’s
