“Momentum”
In the past, I have coached varsity high school basketball and soccer teams, and I remember how important it was
to gain momentum, the ability to succeed, and then follow it up with continued success. While gaining momentum
is elusive, maintaining momentum is even more difficult, as it is too easy to “rest on one’s laurels,” to relax, or to
forget the essential elements that enabled you to succeed.
2018 was in many ways a blessed year, one where the PRC enjoyed many successes, but my prayer for 2019 is
that we will be good stewards of God’s blessings and that we won’t lose focus upon Him or be sidetracked from
where He is leading this ministry.
For the fourth year in a row, we served over 700 clients (page 7), as God answered our prayers for Him to draw
clients to us. We also served more abortion-minded and abortion-vulnerable clients in 2018 than either of
the previous two years. As we enter 2019, we want to serve more clients, especially those mothers who are
considering or have decided to secure an abortion.
We continued the trend of recent years to add to our caring, confidential, and free services as we added “Fertility
Care” to our medical services. Now, instead of only explaining the effectiveness, limitations, and risks associated
with various forms of contraception, we can educate married couples about using knowledge about God’s design
of the reproductive system to manage their procreative lives. With our single clients, we continue to share the wis-
dom and benefits of abstinence. Please pray that we can add the Abortion Pill Reversal protocol at our center dur-
ing 2019 even as we continue to grow the network of Utah doctors who also will offer this life-saving service.
Another area of blessing during 2018 was the addition of personnel to a group of employees and volunteers whom
God has knitted together to form a diverse and talented group of individuals at our center. God added
Dr. Marlanna Li to replace our Medical Director who stepped down this past year, and we are grateful for recent
answered prayers for filling the Client Services Manager (page 6) and post-abortion support facilitator vacancies.
The biggest disappointment during 2018 was having federal funding for our abstinence education program, Reality
Check, entirely cut by the Salt Lake County Health Department despite our presenters having a banner 2017-18
school year, and an exceptional decades-long track record. Please pray for other funding sources to arise so that
we can continue to effectively share the wisdom of saving sex until marriage with thousands of 8-12 grade
students, and not end this vital program that others are all too eager to replace with comprehensive sex education.
Financial support reached peak levels in 2018 as one-time donations, recurring donations, the Banquet for Life,
and Baby Bottle Campaigns all realized significant increases. Additionally, God enabled the PRC to raise over
100% of the startup costs, and money is in the bank to cover initial months of operational expenses for the Utah
County Satellite Center (page 4).
All of this has positioned us to impact the lives of more mothers, fathers, and unborn children than we have ever
been able to do previously. However, this golden opportunity will go to waste if we lose our focus on God who has
blessed us with this success and His plans for this ministry, so please pray that we won’t lose momentum!

Your Partner in this Sacred Cause,

“Unplanned”

While we had heard about the movie titled “Unplanned”

months before it was to be offered to general audiences
across this nation, we had no idea how involved we would
become with this movie.

“Unplanned” relates the story of Abby Johnson who had

been a Planned Parenthood (PP) client as she underwent
a traditional abortion and a chemical abortion even though
her parents were pro-life. Abby began to volunteer
at Planned Parenthood because she wanted to help
mothers with unplanned pregnancies, believing that PP was working towards reducing the number
of abortions. She became the youngest PP clinic
director and received an employee-of-the year award, but then she came to realize (especially
after a traumatic experience within one of the PP clinic’s procedure rooms) that abortion was
ending the life of an unborn child, and that the PP culture was encouraging more, not fewer,
abortions.

Towards the end of February, we were approached about whether we would consider hosting
one preview of this movie. As we checked into the various legalities and logistics involved, God
led one of our donors to specifically give towards “buying out” a theater while
another donor also gave a special donation and soon agreed to allow us to use it for a similar
purpose. Then through collaboration with Family Watch International we learned about yet another
donor who would become interested in “buying out” two more theaters. Even as discussions with
these three donors ensued, I was spending much more time negotiating with three different movie
theaters and the movie’s distributor and marketing agency. Upon working out all of the details,
then began the task of trying to fill three separate previews in three different locations on three dif-
ferent evenings.

515 attendees came to these previews, and they were urged to do whatever they could to share
their movie experiences with others while also urging others to come to see this powerful movie.
Though it took some time to convince three movie theaters to not only book our previews but to
purchase the rights to Unplanned and offer it to general audiences, God worked in mighty ways
and ultimately 10 movie theaters within Salt Lake, Utah, and Summit counties purchased those
rights. Additionally, attendance at theaters across the nation ended up being significantly better
than predicted even though an undeserved “R” rating was assigned and there were multiple occur-
rences of unwarranted obstacles being placed upon advertising for this movie.

Whether you saw this movie or not, we would urge you to pray that God would use this movie in
mighty ways across this nation and that He

Utah County Satellite Center Update

We are quickly approaching the 3-year mark of when the PRC Board of Directors approved establishing a
satellite center in Utah County, Utah’s 2nd most populated county and one of our fastest growing counties.
While we believe that God has drawn us to help fill a void of having a Gospel sharing pro-life organization in
Utah County, the path forward has had many twists and turns.

When Calvary Mountain View church, located in American Fork, asked us to consider establishing such a
center within 1,428 ft2 of space on their property along State Street, we were initially hesitant, but were will-
ing to put the matter to prayer and to begin “counting the costs.” CMV was willing to provide this space to
us without charging rent/lease which was a tremendous start, but then came some twists and turns as we
began to seek additional sources of funding. After a slow start, three separate Utah foundations approved
our grant proposals to them, and then various individuals and couples also donated towards this project.
To date, $96,250 has been donated, and this is 102% of the projected startup costs. Additionally, dona-
tions and pledges to be applied towards in-
creased operational costs that will be incurred
once we open the doors in American Fork have
been raised.

But momentum was slowed by the improved

economy within Utah as increased demands
upon Utah’s construction industry resulted in
higher costs than had been budgeted. Addition-
ally, sub-contractors were too busy with projects
already underway to also help us with our reno-
vation needs.

Thankfully, God brought additional supporters to defray the increased budget needs, and then brought Jer-
ry Carroll, a general contractor, to lead this project. His expertise and patience were both
needed especially when the HVAC system failed. Jerry and his team of workers and sub-contractors
accomplished as much as possible during the cold months of December & January, and now that the
HVAC system is fully functional, other tasks that had to be delayed have now been completed.

Along with raising funds and completing renovations, securing a team of volunteers was understood to be a
daunting task, especially finding and then training Registered Nurses. But God provided two RNs who
were already trained and others who were willing to be trained (page 5). Additionally, a volunteer peer-
counselors will begin her training later in April along with a volunteer father mentor.

Although the seemingly less complicated parts of the construction have yet to be completed, we rejoice that
the more difficult aspects of the project are finished, and we rest in the knowledge that depending upon
God’s plan and His timing is ultimately what is most important. We are anticipating being able to open the
doors to this satellite center this coming summer and solicit your prayers that the remaining tasks that need
to be done will be accomplished in a timely manner and that costs will remain within or under our budgeted
amounts. But mostly please pray that God will draw the right personnel to effectively minister to the clients
He will bring to this center.

Registered Nurses’ Ultrasound Certifications

Along with our need to secure and train Registered Nurses (RNs)
for our Utah County Satellite Center (page 4), we needed RNs to
serve at the SLC center, especially with the retirement of one of
our RNs who ably served at our center for over 5 years.

Thankfully, God provided us with funding for the training of RNs

in limited ultrasound exams and then provided us with three RNS
who were willing to go through the extensive training.

They then went by separate flights to Fredericksburg, VA for a 4

day “didactic” course, and while their experience was highly positive, two of our volunteers got stranded
by a snow storm in Virginia and had to stay a day longer than originally planned. Following this, all three
received hands-on training at the PRC for two weeks with the assistance of dozens of volunteer
“ultrasound models” followed by weeks of continued training.

Two of these RNs describe their training as follows:

“The experience was a difficult challenge in that it was like taking a crash course in all that you
need to learn and do . . . and then be pushed out of the nest to either fly or not. Perhaps that is
what Jesus’s disciples felt when he was preparing them for his departure from this earth. I felt
God’s hand every day leading, guiding and directing my mind and learning.”

Marilyn

“I really enjoyed and was encouraged by the training. It quite literally takes my breath away every
time we see a little life moving about on the ultrasound screen. I’m so grateful we get the oppor-
tunity to show women the truth about the gift that they are carrying during pregnancy. I have
many times thought about what a waste of money and time my nursing degree was since I am a
stay at home mom. I hoped that someday somehow God would use it for a redemptive purpose,
and I truly believe this is what he had in store for me. I sincerely find the work fun!”

Meet Our New Client Services Manager

We are excited to welcome Alicia Toscano to the PRC team as our new Client
Services Manager! We have gotten to know Alicia as a volunteer doing peer
counseling for the past 6 months, and watched how God has done what only He
can do to bring the right person to this role.

Alicia was born in Salt Lake City, Utah and except for a few years in Arizona and Colorado, this has been
her home. Having worked within the medical
administrative field her entire career until recently, Alicia felt an unsettling and God calling her to do more.

By the time Alicia was 18, she had 2 sons. She showed up at the doors of the Pregnancy Resource Center
in 1995 to confirm her first pregnancy. She was terrified and uncertain of what to expect. Met with love and
acceptance that day, she never forgot how impactful the experience was from that visit.
