TEACHER’S ACTIVITY LEARNER’S ACTIVITY

I.PRELIMINARY ACTIVITY
Prayer
May we all stand and feel the presence of
our lord.
(Student’s will pray)
Good morning class!
Good Morning, Sir.
Before you take your seat please pick up
some pieces of papers and arrange the
chairs properly.

Checking of Attendance
Who are absent today?
(Student’s will answer)
Very nice, all are present.

Checking of Assignment
Do we have an assignment?
Okay. Let’s answer your assignment first
before we proceed to our discussion this
morning/afternoon.

Review
Do you still remember what we have
tackled last meeting?
(Student’s will answer)
So, what is our past lesson all about?
Our lesson is all about the different equipment
we use in crop production.
Alright. We have discussed the different
equipment in crop production.

Okay with regards to our previous topic, I

have pictures here and I want you to name
or identify the equipment in the picture
then can you please share it with the class
the function or use of these equipment in
crop production. Is that understood?
Hand Tractor
 Is used to pull a plow and harrow
in preparing a large area of land.

Four wheel tractor

 Is used to pull disc plow and disc
harrow in preparing much bigger
area of land.

Water pumps
 Are used to draw irrigation water
from a source.

Thresher
 A farm machine for separating
seeds or grain from the husk and
straw.

Corn Dehusker
 To remove the husk from the corn.
This reveals the corn on the cob.
Rice Harvester
 Farm machine that mechanically
harvests a crop.

Grass Cutter
 Is a machine or device for cutting
grass

Rice seeder
 Is a gardening equipment used to
plant rice seeds.

Miller
 An agricultural machine used to
automate the process of removing
the chaff (the outer husks) of
grains of rice.

Is there any question about the different

equipment in crop production?
(Student’s will answer)

Now. I think we’re good to move on to

our new lesson.
II. ACTIVITY
Before we proceed to our lesson, I want
you to group yourselves into 5. Each group
have the task to identify the pictures that
you will be holding. Name the pictures and
brainstorm with the use or function. Is the
instruction clear?
(The student’s will answer)
Therefore. Please count 1 to 5 and assign
your leader. Write down your names on a
¼ sheet of paper.
III. ANALYSIS

Okay, what have you noticed to our

activity? Are the pictures familiar to you?
(Student’s will answer)
So, what do you think is the relation of our
activity or the pictures itself to the lesson
that we are going to take this
morning/afternoon?

Do you know when to use these materials

in our everyday lives?
Yes. When we are cleaning the tools.
That’s good to know. Some materials in
there are used in cleaning the tools.
So, today we are moving forward to our
new topic.

IV. ABSTRACTION

How to Clean Your Tools and

Equipment

Let’s start with the basics

 Your shovel, spade, hoe, or even
the blades on a hedge trimmer will
be a lot easier to use if you take a
few minutes to knock some of the
rust off the blade.

Okay what will be our first step to do in

the cleaning process? It is said that …
 Take a few minutes to knock some of
the rust off the blade.
 This also extend the useful life of
the tools.
 It will cut through the soil better
and thus require less effort to use.

But you should know that in order to

clean, sharpen and maintain the useful life
of these tools there are some materials that
you should know. Do you have an idea
about these materials?
So, we have …
Whetstone

Sand paper

Bench vise

Water and Oil

Now let’s go back to the cleaning process.

 The best way to use the stone is to
find a way to stabilize the tool that
you want to work on.
 Apply a bit of lubricating oil to the
end of the tool and carefully begin
to work the stone over the blade.
Maintain a 30degree angle
between the stone and the blade to
form the ideal cutting edge of your
tool.

Okay it is said that we can begin to work

the stone over blade but we should
maintain the 30 degree angle. So what will
be the result or importance of doing these
kind of work? Anyone who would like to
answer?
 The edge will become sharp.

Very good. But also you will be removing

any pitting and rust that has form at the
edge of your tool’s blade.

In some instances where the moving parts

of your garden tools have frozen in place
like springs and pivot joints.
 You should dissemble them first
carefully.
 Break free any rust or dirt that may
keep the tool from functioning
properly.

There are certain materials that we need in

removing stubborn rust or dirt from our
tools.

Fine steel wool

Using an old toothbrush with some

lightweight lubricating oil is a great way
to work fresh oil into the joints of the
garden tools.

Old toothbrush

Use medium grit sandpaper to remove rust

on larger tools such as shovels, spades,
and hoes.

Sandpaper
SHARPENING

Once your tools are cleaned, they are

ready to be sharpened.
 When sharpening try to maintain
the original factory bevel or angle.
 For pruners, use whetstone
because it produces a very sharp
cutting edge.
 With the beveled side of the blade
against the stone, rub the sharp
edge of the blade toward the stone
in a curved motion.

When working with a file,

 Stabilize the blades in a vise or
against a solid surface to avoid
injury and ensure an even stroke.
 Always push the file across the
blade in a motion away from your
body.
 When sharpening with a file, do
not use oil.

Farm implements like plow and wooden

harrow should be checked before use.
 Loosen bolts and nuts should be
tightened firmly.
 Disc plow and disc harrow should
be lubricated on their moving parts
like bearings.

Tractors should be tuned-up very well by

skilled operator. Check on their oil,
lubricant, fuel and cooling system.

Remember: Tools that are worn out should

be separated and be fixed immediately to
avoid accident.

Is there any question with regards to our

topic? Any concerns about the lesson?

Very well. I think we’re good to proceed

to our activity.
V. APPLICATION
Show that you have learned something
by doing this activity

Materials, Tools and Equipment

Materials:
 Oil
 Rag
 Sand Paper 300

Tools:
 Prunning shear
 Spade
 Hoe
 Metal clamp
 File
 Wrench

Introduction:
Hoes, forks, shears, and spades become
blunt and need to be cleaned and
sharpened. Use a file or sharpening steel.
Sharpen the upper surface. Then rub with
an oily rug.

VI. EVALUATION

TRUE OR FALSE. Read and analyze

each statement below. Write TRUE if the
statement is correct; FALSE if the
statement is incorrect.

_____1.The best way to use the stone is to

find a way to stabilize the tool
that you want to work on.
_____2.Tools that are worn out should be
separated and be fixed
immediately to avoid accident.
_____3. When sharpening, try to maintain
the original factory bevel or
angle.
_____4. Always push the file across the
blade in a motion away from your
body.
_____5. Clean accumulated rust and dirt
off all metal surfaces with a wire
brush.
_____6. Move the file diagonally, so that
its cutting teeth are biting into the
metal on the tool.
_____7. Use medium-grit sandpaper to
remove rust on larger tools such
as shovels, spades, and hoes.
_____8. When sharpening with a file, do
not use oil; metal filings will
accumulate and clog the file's
serrations.
_____9.Oil will help tools to work as
intended and will prevent the
formation of rust.
____10.For pruners, use a whetstone
because it produces a very sharp
cutting edge.

11 – 15. Will be based to your actual

performance that we will be doing
tomorrow. 5points for the highest
group. 4points to the 2nd and 3rd
group. 3points for the 4th and 5th
group.
VII. ASSIGNMENT

Please bring the following materials that

we will need in our actual
performance/activity
