Part 1.
Girl: Good morning. Can I book a coach trip to Edinburgh?
Man: Yes, there are two every day, morning and afternoon.
Girl: Tomorrow morning, please. It’s my free day. How much is it?
Man: It’s nine pounds for adults, five for children, and seven for students.
Girl: That’s good. I’m at the university. Here’s the money and my student card.
Man: Thanks. Here’s your ticket.
Girl: Where can I catch the coach?
Man: In Bridge Street or outside the Grand Hotel, or there’s a stop at the library if you want to
wait there.
Girl: Good idea, I’ll do that. What time does it leave?
Man: It leaves Bridge Street at quarter to nine and gets to you at five to nine. It takes ten
minutes going through town.
Girl: Is there time to see the castle in Edinburgh?
Man: Yes, we go there after the cathedral. We don’t visit the shops or museums, I’m afraid.
Girl: Fine. How long is the trip?
Man: The journey there and back is about two and a quarter hours and you spend two hours
in Edinburgh. So that’s four hours and fifteen minutes. You’ll be back by lunchtime.
Girl: Great!
Part 2.
Woman: Able Employment. How may I help you?
Man: I saw your advertisement in the Daily Gazette.
Woman: Oh, yes.
Man: And I'd like to register with you. I'm a student, but I've got the long holiday coming up.
Woman: Certainly. I'll just get the form ready ... OK. Let me take your details.
Man: Sure.
Woman: Can I have your full name?
Man: It's Bowen, James Bowen, B-O-W-E-N.
Woman: Right. And your address, please.
Man: Well, just now I'm staying at the Youth Hostel...
Woman: I see.
M an: But I'm moving into a flat on Friday.
Woman: Well, give me that one, then.
Man: It's 4 Lion, like the animal, Road, Melford MF4 5JB.
Woman: OK. And then I need to have a phone number for you.
Man: Er, I don't know the number at the flat yet, but I could give you my mobile, that's 09954
721822 - would that do?
Woman: For the time being. But if you can let me know your new number when you can ...
Man: Of course.
Woman: N ow ... qualifications. What qualifications have you got - I mean post-16
qualifications?
Man: Well, I stayed on at school till eighteen and got my A levels.
Woman: Fine. Anything else? You said you were a student?
Man: Yes... and then I've done two years at college, so I've got my History Diploma - though I
don't know how useful that'll be for getting a job!
Woman: Well, it depends - everything counts in some way.

Man: And I also did an IT course this year, and that got me my
Computer Skills Certificate, which I certainly hope is relevant. It's different anyway. That's all,
really.
Woman: That's quite a good range. And what about on the practical side ... What work
experience have you got?
Man: Well, not too much, because I've mainly been studying.
Woman: Yes.
Man: But two summers ago I worked, just as general assistant, in a hospital for about three
months. It was quite hard, but very interesting.
Woman: OK. Anything else?
Man: If you include part-time work ...
Woman:Oh yes.
Man: I've often worked in the college holidays as a tour ouide.
showing visitors round. That's quite enjoyable, meeting people.
Woman: I'm sure. Hmm, now onto interests. There's space here for two - what would you
say?
Man: Two... er, well, I like various sports ... but I suppose we
should put that I'm in the swimming club. I'm pretty committed to that.
Woman: Yes, that sounds good. And for the other one? Something different?
Man: I'm very keen on music too, and I love playing piano - I've been doing that for over ten
years now.
Woman: Yes, I'll put that down. Well, that's more or less it for the time being.
Man: Uh-huh.
Woman: Just one more thing. What I do need is your availability.
Man: Oh yes - um, the college term finishes on June 20", and then I'm going to visit my
parents, but I can be back and ready to start on June 28-. if that seems OK?
Woman: I'm sure it is. Now, what happens next is that I process this information and then ...
