Abstract
Indonesia area have area nearly two-thirds of the sea,
therefore it is often called as a maritime country with the
estimated sustainable potential of marine fishery resources of 6.6
million tons / year. Java Sea also have a large fishery potential
and also become a central activity with the contribution of
fisheries production of 78.40% of total fisheries production of the
island of Java, while 21.6% of total fisheries production come
from the south coast of Java. However, the min of the technology
used by fishermen in Indonesia caused that the utilization of
potential fisheries and marine resource less maximal.
Positioning fishing grounds can be predicted with the
parameters of sea surface temperature and the spread of
chlorophyll-a. Using satellite oceanography, it will help to get
those parameters to predict the potential of fishing grounds.
Analysis of distribution of sea surface temperature and
chlorophyll-a distribution location in Java Sea are used to map
the fishing grounds. The analysis uses Terra MODIS satellite
imagery. Algorithms, that used are an algorithm ATBD
(Algorithm Theoretical Basic Document Modis) 19 MODIS to
determine the concentration of chlorophyll-a and an algorithm
ATBD (Algorithm Theoretical Basic Document Modis) 25 MODIS
to determine the sea surface temperature in the study area. The
image data are observed in each month from September 2009
until September 2011.
The results from the data processing, it is concluded that
the dominant sea surface temperature ranges from 25 ° C-29 ° C

and the chlorophyll-a content ranges between 0.02 mg/m3-1, 9
mg/m3. Prediction of potential fishing grounds in the Java Sea
spread much in the middle of the Java Sea about 50 km from the
island of Java and almost all parts of the coastal waters of
northern waters of Java, especially in the western part of Java
Island. Correlation test result for the SPL at r = 0.6197 with
RMSE value = 1.529984, while for chlorophyll-a for r = 0.6293
with a value of RMSE = 0.47358678.
