Palghar District is a district in the state of Maharashtra in Konkan Division.
On 1 August 2014, the Maharashtra State government announced the formation
of the 36th district of Maharashtra, when a new Palghar District was carved out of
the old Thane District. Palghar District starts from Dahanu at the north and ends at
Naigaon, It comprises of the talukas of Palghar, Wada, Vikramgad, Jawhar, Mokhada,
Dahanu, Talasari and Vasai-Virar. At the 2011 Census, the talukas now comprising the
district had a population of 2,990,116.

JNPT will hold a 74% stake in the project, the Maharashtra Maritime Board will hold the rest

The new-age port will be built to accommodate large-sized foreign vessels that
require up to 60-80 metres of draft. “We need a port which has a natural draft of
at least over 16 metres and Wadhwan has a 20-metre draft. The proposed port
will have a capacity of 40-60 million tonnes and it could play a critical role in
coastal shipping and in environmentally-friendly handling of cargo.

Located 110km north of Mumbai.
Proposed captive facility will have capability to handle Bulk Container,
LNG, Chemicals and other cargoes.
Primarily developed for captive need, the facility can handle
commercial cargo up to 25% of the capacity
(MMB Port Policy 2016).

The 6 facilities would include:

6 General Cargo berths including Containers.
1 Coal Berth.
1 LNG Berth.
3 Chemicals & Other Liquid Cargo Berths.
200 Acres of storage facility.

Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train: The soil testing is done to identify

the nature of the soil and the rock strata and to ascertain if the site
can support the structure. The construction of the corridor will begin
in 2018 and is expected to be completed by 2023.
